^ why would anyone buy an $800.00 dollar skirt or a 2k handbag except to show status-

shirts, skirts, dresses, and handbags can all be gotten for less than $50.00
a piece, and yet Prada continues to exist- with it's plain 400.00 pants

Why? Status- to impress other people- if you are at home by yourself, do you put on high heels? Do you put on a chanel suit to watch television? no- you dress fashionably to impress other people- and show them your status as a fashion insider

It is not "nescesary" for me to eat meat, i choose to eat meat- there are no nutrients in meat that cannot be gotten from lentils or dark green leafy vegetables like spinich.- if I wanted to i could chose to be vegetarian- but i don't- i like the taste of meat better than the taste of beans or vegetables.
If you don't like the taste of the substitute vegetables and tofu etc. then it is necessary for you to eat meat, or else you would be deficient in protein. If you decide not to wear leather or fur, then you aren't going to be deficient in "fashion." Balanced diet = necessity, fashionable fur coat = not.

People who do that are living in their own little bubble.. They're not fooling anyone...! ;)

no actually. Its not always about status. And yes i do wear my designer heels at home. Why? Because i love them and i love wearing them as they are as comforable as slippers.
Just because i buy some designer clothes does not give me status over another who doesn't.

Fashion to me is not about that. Fashion to me, is how i feel. I dress fashionably for me - not for anyone else.

Very well said Pink!....

Though in the old days, clothes were related to status... For example during the "Moyen Age" (sorry can't find the english word for it.... ), people who wore clothes in colors that couldn't be found in the nature, not easy to produce were considered rich...

But that is not the case anymore... Clothes do not show someone's status.. people are into fashion because they like what they're wearing. :flower:

from Sunday's NY Post:
SHE'S FUR REAL

WHITNEY Houston isn't afraid of PETA. The diva-stating singer, who has lately denied rumors that she and hubby Bobby Brown are splitting, will wear a full-length, $25,000 white fox coat by Russian designer Helen Yarmak when she sings at the Winter Olympic Games in Turin today. If she gets attacked by the PETA protesters who pelted Paris Hilton and designer Julien McDonald with "flour bombs" last week in London, our bets are on Houston. Her wig may be askew these days, but the feisty singer can still throw down with the best of them.

-----LMAOOOOOOOO.

i definitely agree with them. those PETA folks might be flashy, but WHITNEY is batshit crazy and she would NOT be the right celeb to be attackin. haha. needless to say "the fur would most definitely fly".

Maybe this has been answered, i'm asking again anyway.

If a fur alterntive is offered, why wear fur?

To show Oh how lovely you and your rich, indulgant fur coat are? Because you just adore the feel of it on your skin? Or rather simply, why not?

Why not? Because your money goes to supporting the incrediblyyy inhumane (and no, not even the fur wearers are going to disagree) treatment of animals where they are treated like disgust for their short lives before they are killed and skinned. Mmm. how lovely. What a beautiful story that fur coat tells as it rests on your skin. Don't you just love teliling the world "YES! I am such an important person, so immensely special, that I have the right to kill an animal because I can and I want to, I simply needed my real fur coat."

And if you disagree, think about it for a second. What entitles you to take the life of another animal? Because you can? Come up with something more convincing than that.

I agree with pink_lipgloss. I wear designer clothes around the house regularly because I love them. Or maybe I'm just subconsciously trying to impress my pets? :innocent:

Well said Woodenhouse! Wearing fur (and therefore promoting the killing of wildlife (or not, because often it's not wildlife anymore), innocent creatures whose purpose in life is not to make a nice fur coat to anyone, and able to suffer) is SO superficial and UNNECESSARY......!

We don't need Peta (an organism that presents women (for ex.: playboy models) simply as objects of desire in their ads) or any other organization (who generate a bit too much personal profit profit that they are becoming a REAL business) to remind us of human cruelty toward species that we shouldn't be using at our own will .....!

^a very well thought out, mature, and intelligent reasoning and response

It's an intelligent response that people who actually wear fur will understand. Yes, I consider them as a little bit stupid, therefore, I use their language, than they understand it better.

;)

boggles the mind, aye? Some may make the same comparrison about eating meat... when its unnecesary and there are alternatives... :innocent: but not me of course

the childishness of peta has damaged the cause- at least they still have IDA. Fur is cruel- its an accepted fact.

people really need to put peta aside.... even though they are supposedly fighting against the use of fur, they're not the incarnation of what anti fur is supposed to be....

let's just forget about them a second and look into the real issue: wearing fur is SUPERFICIAL and CRUEL...

I shouldn't have opened this thread :(. I can understand that some issues are debatable...wearing vintage fur or "eco-fur" for example. And I can also understand that sad but true, we are foolish and vulnerable creatures who would often go to great lengths to boost our ego and "look good".

But the fact that the inhumanity of the idea of fur has to even be explained...and that people don't get it even then......it's a seriously scary world we live in.
