Yves Saint Laurent F/W 08.09 : Naomi Campbell by Inez & Vinoodh

These ads don't explain the huge potentiality of the collection...I imagined a woman in a futuristic city killing someone with her stilettos:lol:...not a depth and shade combination
I'm a bit disappointed

well, maybe that's because most of women tend to buy clothes to wear them rather than to use the clothing as weapon. so i guess they just had to tone down that futuro-anti-utopia. in the end of the day it's about selling shoes and bags and wide pants rather than fighting urban demons :innocent:

I guess you're right

.. since Pilati was taking us in a tour around Paris over the last few seasons ..
this time I was expecting an outdoor shot as usual, somwhere in La Defense or Paris Bibliotheque or Bastile Opera??? the modern face of the city??

The killing people with stiletto idea is not so wrong since they casted Naomi Campbell :shifty: I think she did that before but I would love to see Naomi making fun of Naomi for YSL!

I can imagine a wonderful shot for the campaign:she's throwing her phone against someone wearing stilettos and that "Naomi hit me" t-shirt B)

I have pre-ordered this dress. I hope I look this good in it.

scanned by me from Vogue UK

I really don't like the casting for this. Naomi is the LAST person that I associate YSL with :innocent:

Whats more, once a model's personality starts to become more overt, it ruins anything she consequently appears in, if that makes sense.
I look at this and think 'abusive, arrogant, violent' when I should be thinking about how luxurious and opulent the advertisement should be.

The brilliance of Kate Moss is that she never talks and hasn't become this dominant personality, therefore she can appear in ANY advertising campaign and make it look opulent

Thanks for the latest scan, she looks amazing. As will miss nyc in that dress :flower:

I guess it all depends on what you bring to the table. I do associate her with YSL because she had a history with him and he helped to make her big in the industry so it fits. Kate does have a particular image. She's sex, _____ & rock n' roll for a lot of people. Non-dominant (or only mildly dominant) personalities don't get Topshop clothing lines and hawk dept. store perfumes :ninja:. What makes her brilliant is that she's a good enough model to make you forget that when she's sipping cafe in a cool Paris corner for Longchamp .

I love Naomi, but i think the campaign is lacking live and some vigor. She's a good model and the dresses are spot on but the shots are just bland, they manage to get the clothes but ignore the scenery and thus destroy the narrative element which would make the campaign much more striking.

I think if they had shot her in a sequence of grieving shots, in like of the late YSL, then the campaign would be relevant and more striking, not forgetting the extra buzz it would generate from the mainstream press.

Overall, good model, brilliant clothes, disappointing shots.

^ Yeah, good idea :flower: Sure you will look amazing

does anyone know of a Manifesto for this campaign?

i partially agree with you. but the sex ****s and rock n' roll image sells and the arrogant/violent one doesn't. i think it's hard to totally disassociate them from their personalities, they can be versatile - and both of them are imo - but at the same time they'll always be kate and naomi, and that's part of kate's appeal actually. all the bad things i heard about naomi didn't make me dislike her though, and i think she really suits this campaign.
