Yves Saint Laurent Pre-Fall 07.08

wow love this! i'd wear it all like people have previously stated. Its got such a classic elegant feel to it but so wearable which i love. All the pieces look so effortless together.

Beautiful!!! The coats are marvellous! It has a hint of badass in it which is so brilliant. But I dislike the gowns, they're too drapey and not "huggy" enough. My favourite pieces are the boots. Sexy!

It is styled well. The addition of fishnets seem fresh enough to blow tights out of the water, finally. I agreed with Cathy Horyn's observations on his earlier collections: he was nervously courting the bourgeois, whatever is left of it anyway. This has energy, ease and a charming dash of historic subversion thanks to a recut of Deneuve's shiny black Mac. All clear evidence of him finally reaching some sort of comfort level, getting back on track with how women (and some jealous men, myself included) want to dress

I always prefer Pilati sub-collections ( pre-fall & cruise) over the major show collection.. love them so chic .. so YSL.

HOW COULD WE POSSIBLY NOT LOOOOOOVE THIS???

it's classy, basic, seems to fit, seems modern enough ye tnot just trendy...

pilati devotion....

I wasn't terribly fond of his fall/winter collection, but this is an absolute stand-out. Love it.

Jackets, daywear, dresses - all lovely pieces.

I am really becoming tired of these pre-fall, resort or "just because!" collections. I wish we had only two collections per year.

Regardless, I can't deny this is a practical, chic collection of clothing. Certain pieces are hardly wearable by any means, namely the floor length gowns and wide leg, high waisted pants, but otherwise the outfits are fit for a modern woman.

I'm serious, though. The high waisted pants have got to go.

First, I don't agree the "hardly wearable floor length gowns, high waisted pants" statement, i see Saint Laurent uber women in any given city who would no doubt wear any high waist pants, and they have a closetful of wearable stuffs, and they don't need just another black pair of norm. They have the money, time and guts to pull off a challenging pair and why not? regarding the floor length gowns, all these are much more wearable than the one from Dior for sure, if not Vivienne Westwood, floor length gowns never meant to be worn in day to day life, but there're women in the world who need a gown or two every season, for functions and parties, and these are the best ones you can get in the market.
We are experiencing the growth of pre & cruise collection, and they are getting big and popular because there's a market for it, a room to grow, from conglomerate's pov, thanks to the shopping savvy American. I look at it differently these days, since brands like YSL, Nina Ricci, Lanvin, Balenciaga, Martin Grant et al are reaching the semi-couture level, their pre-collection has a status like pret-a-porter used to be, and the catwalk collection would define the core image and "tone" of the house, Indeed, pre & cruise can beat the attack of high-street brands like TopShop, H&M, Zara etc. I must admit pre&cruise are doing better and better and been taking up to 70% of one season's buisness.

Well said dhclam. Very good collection from Mr. Pilati. I just wish we could see more like this. Very chic, very my style.

Merci, dhclam.
There is no denying Mr. Pilati goes from strength to strength. The new Edition 24 is nothing short of superb as well.
The original allure of YSL lay in the everyday pieces from Rive Gauche for me NOT from the overhyped couture (albeit genius). This is where you see the real bones of a designer not just the maquillage.
We should appreciate more designers like this and not just the attention seekers.

Absolutely wonderful, I love every piece other than the seemingly giraffe fur coat^_^

I just can't get over this! It's because of collections like these that Stefano is one of my top 5 favorite designers!

If I saw a woman out on the street wearing any of these outfits, especially the coats, I think I'd faint on the spot.:rolleyes:

his sillhouette doesnt seem to change

yeah , its nice but in a boring way...i mean i can buy another well known designer and get better designs . I dont know why he doesnt cut a good pair of pants , the coats are fab ...but the pants....ummmmm...no....but this is much better than his main collections , which is usually the case ........i dont know, im such a fan of tom fords...i dont think any man can do what he accomplished. Eventhough his fashion isnt bad(pilatis) , its just too cerebral and cold for me , and ive tried and tried to like his work...really i do , but if you look at YSL's work and tom fords , there was always an under current of sex and conterversy , which adds to the personality of the clothes.
