The 23-year-old actor was joined for the afternoon by a group of friends, including close pal Ryan Rottman and Rumer Willis, who sipped a smoothie.

Over the weekend, Zac spent some time in Malibu, first celebrating his High School Musical co-star Ashley Tisdale’s 26th birthday at the beach, where he gave her a piggyback ride.

Zac then hit a Fourth of July bash two days later.

Zac Efron & Dennis Quaid Film Movie At Iowa Speedway

Hollywood movie stars Zac Efron, best known for his role in “High School Musical,” and Emmy-nominated actor Dennis Quaid, will be at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa, on Saturday, July 16, taping scenes for an untitled racing movie.

Fans are invited to be part of the movie magic. Tickets for the Prairie Meadows 200 ARCA Racing Series and Coca-Cola 200 presented by Hy-Vee NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races are on sale please visit www.iowaspeedway.com/movie. Fans purchasing tickets online will be entered into a drawing, and 100 lucky winners will have the chance to participate in the pre-race festivities — and could appear in the crowd scenes in the movie!

The film is an untitled, Iowa-based movie starring Efron as a rural teen aspiring to become a professional racecar driver; Quaid plays Efron’s father in the film. Producers will shoot Efron walking across the pre-race stage, Quaid cheering from the stands, and stock car racing footage during the Prairie Meadows 200 scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m.

The film’s director, Ramin Bahrani, is a North Carolina-native — declared the “director of the decade” in 2010 by American film critic Roger Ebert — who is best known for his previous projects Man Push Cart, Chop Shop, Goodbye Solo and Plastic Bag.

“There are a lot of race tracks in America and we are very excited that Mr. Bahrani chose Iowa Speedway as the set for his movie,” says Iowa Speedway President Jerry Jauron. “I hope fans will take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see A-list celebrities and be part of a movie. Let’s show the film crew what Midwestern hospitality is all about!”

Zac Efron & Rumer Willis At Scene Of Ryan Rottman’s DUI Arrest?

New videotape of Nickelodeon star Ryan Rottman‘s DUI arrest last night shows Zac Efron was there — and Rumer Willis, too!

Zac, wearing a plaid shirt, is seen in the PopCandiesTV video (via TMZ) talking nervously on his cell phone. The actor is reportedly standing outside Dillon’s Irish Pub while police spoke with Ryan, who was wearing a dark blue shirt.

The “Gigantic” star was pulled over in Hollywood after his car jumped a curb. A breathalyzer test reportedly showed his blood alcohol level to be twice the legal limit.

In the video, Zac is seen being driven away from the scene by Bruce Willis‘ daughter Rumer. As for Ryan, he was taken to jail and booked. The actor was released shortly after without having to post bail.

“Deadwood” Alum Dickens Boards Zac Efron Thriller

Deadwood” alum Kim Dickens has been cast opposite Dennis Quaid and Zac Efron in “Heartland”, says Deadline.

The flick ”revolves around a traditional father (Quaid) who wishes for his race-car driver son (Efron) to take over the family-run seed business in Iowa, a tale that includes racing and illegal goings-on.”

Dickens, who also appeared on “Friday Night Lights” and is now a regular on “Treme”, would play the mother, Irene.

Cusack will replace Tobey Maguire, who recently had to drop out of the project.

Zac Efron Shoots Movie In Iowa

Officials with the Iowa Speedway in Newton said that a movie crew and two big-name Hollywood stars are shooting part of a movie at the racetrack on Saturday.

“It’s controlled chaos here at Iowa Speedway this weekend. We’ve been working on this project just over a month and actually got the go-ahead less than 10 days ago or 11 days ago. So now, we have to squeeze a lot in the next 48 hours because most of the film that’s shot here is going to be done today and tomorrow when the race fans are in the grandstands,” said Jerry Jauron, Iowa Speedway president.

Actors Zac Efron and Dennis Quaid are at the racetrack to tape scenes for a new, as-yet untitled racing movie.

“This is big stuff. You got A-list Zac Efron, Dennis Quaid right here at the Iowa Speedway. Chance of a lifetime to be part of a movie,” said Jauron.

Fans are invited to be part of the movie magic.

“One hundred lucky ticket holders are going to be chosen tomorrow, pulled out of the grandstands so they can be in front of the stage when we do the pre-race experience, so they’ll be 20 to 25 feet from the stars,” said Jauron. “We need the fans to play off the racing. The racing to play off the stars. I mean, all three of them are coming together.”

Tickets for the Prairie Meadows 200 ARCA Series Stock Car and Coca-Cola 200 presented by Hy-Vee NASCAR Camping World Truck Series races are on sale for $25.

Fans purchasing tickets online will be entered into a drawing, and 100 lucky winners will have the chance to participate in the pre-race festivities and could appear in the crowd scenes in the movie, speedway officials said.

The film is an Iowa-based movie starring Efron as a rural teen aspiring to become a professional race car driver. Quaid plays Efron’s father in the film.

Producers will shoot Efron walking across the pre-race stage, Quaid cheering from the stands and stock car racing footage during the Prairie Meadows 200 scheduled to begin at 4:15 p.m.

“There are a lot of racetracks in America and we are very excited that Mr. Bahrani chose Iowa Speedway as the set for his movie,” said Iowa Speedway President Jerry Jauron. “I hope fans will take advantage of this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see A-list celebrities and be part of a movie. Let’s show the film crew what Midwestern hospitality is all about!”

Efron Fans Will Race To Newton Today

bilde

You may have missed your opportunity for a cameo in “High School Musical,” but today you have a chance to show your face in another Zac Efron flick. The 23-year-old stars alongside actor Dennis Quaid in a new untitled film, and at least one scene will be filmed this afternoon during the Prairie Meadows 200 ARCA Series race at the Iowa Speedway in Newton. We’ve answered five burning questions you may have about today’s shoot.

Zac Efron is filming in Iowa? What’s this movie all about?
The untitled drama is directed by Ramin Bahrani, who critic Roger Ebert called “the director of the decade.” Zac Efron plays an Iowa teen whose plans to become a race car driver are in conflict with those of his farming father, played by “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” star Dennis Quaid. Film producer Pamela Koffler estimates the movie will be released in 2012.

Iowa Speedway president Jerry Jauron expects his Newton venue to be featured prominently in one scene. “Efron’s character catches a big break to race, and it just so happens that he races in the ARCA races at the Iowa Speedway,” Jauron said.

If you attend today’s race, will you really be on camera?
Well, you might be. Film cameras are expected to capture Quaid cheering from the speedway’s stands along with sweeping shots of the 30,000 capacity grandstand crowd at the Newton track. Still, fans can experience the action of being on a set.

“The one thing this film offers is the opportunity for a large group of people to be able to be in the process,” Jauron said.

Jauron guarantees that everyone who shows up today will be able to purchase a ticket and advises attendees to be seated by 3:15 p.m. The race begins at 4:15 p.m.

Amanda Emerson, 25, of Des Moines, has tickets to today’s race – and stars in her eyes. “I have never been in a movie scene before,” she wrote in an email. “How awesome would that be to say you were in a movie starring Zac Efron and Dennis Quaid?”
Q: Why is this scene being filmed in Iowa?

A: The movie is actually set in Iowa, and more generally, in the "Midwestern farm region," said film producer Pamela Koffler in a phone interview from New York City.

At the moment, today's Iowa Speedway scene is the only one scheduled to be shot in the Hawkeye state. The majority of the drama is being filmed in DeKalb County, Ill.

Illinois offers a tax credit of 30 percent off all qualified in-state production expenditures. Former Iowa Gov. Chet Culver suspended Iowa's film tax credit program in September 2009 after an audit revealed mismanagement.

Q: How will the Speedway factor into the shoot?

A: Most footage will be of the infield, however, shots of the grandstand crowd will factor into the filming, Jauron said. Fans who have purchased tickets at iowaspeedway.com have been entered into a drawing, and 100 winners will sit on the inside of the track, giving them an up-close view of the action from just 20 feet away.

Q: Will the race be delayed because of the movie?

A: Jauron says no. This is a one-take shot: ARCA Series announcers will belt Efron's movie name (rumored to be Dean Whipple). Efron will walk across the pre-race stage, shake the hands of several sponsors and Jauron, then proceed to Pit Road, hop in the car and get strapped in. Just before the race begins, Efron will jump out of the car, and the real driver will hop in and race.

"The goal is for Zac to look as if he's been racing his whole life," Jauron said.

Koffler hopes the scene will be as realistic as possible.

"We're there not to impact how the event unfolds. We're there to capture what it would really be like," she said.

Zac Efron Spotted In Chicago

Zac Efron had anything but a quiet Sunday night in Chicago: after a late dinner, the actor stopped in for a drink by the bar at Sunda before heading over to the Underground for the club’s weekly dance party. Efron held court at a table near the deejay booth – but soon moved to the dance floor, where he got down to a five-minute medley of Michael Jackson tunes spun by DJ Rock City.

Zac Efron & Seth Rogen In R-Rated College Comedy

Zac Efron made his name playing a singing high school heartthrob, but as his newly announced film indicates, the “High School Musical” star has clearly graduated.

Deadline reports that Efron has signed on to play a hard-partying college student in an R-rated comedy, starring opposite Seth Rogen, whose character lives nearby Efron’s frat house and has his life turned upside down as a result. It’s standard fair for the delightfully filthy mouthed Rogen, and a huge step in a new direction for Efron.

Since finishing his Disney days, Efron has worked to establish a new, more mature identity. He danced with adults in “Hairspray,” and then there was the well reviewed indie period piece, “Me and Orson Welles,” in 2008, and while the 2009 comedy “17 Again” cast him back in high school, he was able to perform in a different context, with more adult themes sprinkled throughout, and its relative success – the film grossed $136 million worldwide – helped launch a varied next two years.

Efron then went melodramatic in the Ben Sherwood ghost romance adaptation, “Charlie St. Cloud,” before going off to war in the upcoming, “The Lucky One,” and joining a whole host of stars in the ensemble romcom, “New Year’s Eve,” which is out this winter. He’ll then take on “The Paperboy,” a sexual thriller with Matthew McConaughey, Nicole Kidman and others.

As for Rogen, he also started his career in high school, though his belated, beloved “Freaks and Geeks” certainly had a different tone than Efron’s Disney world. Breaking out as a superstar in “Knocked Up,” he’s owned, in large part alongside director/producer Judd Apatow, the R-rated comedy the past half decade, writing and starring in “Superbad” and “The Pineapple Express,” as well as taking lead in “Zack and Miri Make a p*rno,” for Kevin Smith and going heroic in the mildly disappointing “The Green Hornet.”

Rogen will next be seen in the real-life cancer dramedy, “50/50,” a story written by his real life best friend Will Reiser about his true story struggle with the disease. Just like in real life, Rogen plays the patient’s best friend; in the film, Joseph Gordon-Levitt takes on the lead role. Then, Rogen will co-star with Barbra Streisand in “My Mother’s Curse,” a raunchy road trip movie.

The announcement of the film comes after a proliferation of hit R-rated comedies this summer, with plenty more on the docket for the remaining heated months. “Bridesmaids” and “The Hangover, Part II,” each set box office records, while “Bad Teacher” and “Horrible Bosses,” both performed above expectations. This weekend’s “Friends With Benefits” is performing well at the box office, while early August’s “The Change-Up” promises good returns with Jason Bateman and Ryan Reynolds in the lead roles.

Young Stars Becoming Movie Dealmakers

In Hollywood, it used to be you had to produce before you produced. But it’s not the case anymore with a crop of teenage and young adult stars who are moving onto the backlots of Tinseltown with production companies. Selena Gomez, 19, who is starring in “Monte Carlo,” has a development deal.

Gomez is just one of several young actors – including 23-year-old Zac Efron and 19-year-old Taylor Lautner – producing their own movies. These actors have their own production companies, but they’re not necessarily calling the shots in Hollywood – yet.

According to one veteran producer, for many young actors, production deals provide a way to pay a manager or family member who’s been an informal adviser without having to take money out of the actor’s salary. And producing is a way for the actors to select some of the movies they make.

“This provides an element of control, and in this business, every inch of that is pretty powerful,” Efron said in an interview last year.

Studios often cut production deals with actors as a way to sustain a relationship with someone they want to star in their movies. But these young actors may not even be doing the actual producing. Taylor Lautner’s dad, Dan, with whom Taylor partnered with to open his production company, is listed as the producer of their company’s first movie, this fall’s “Abduction.” And Gomez’s mom reportedly runs her production company.

“There are tons of production companies headed up by talent. The studios will give them a deal, overhead and office space, but most of the pictures never get made,” says one entertainment attorney.

Still, Universal reportedly just acquired a project for Gomez’s two-and-a-half-year-old production company earlier this year. And Efron has seven projects in development.

Ultimately it’s up to the actor to determine whether their production pact becomes a mere vanity deal or a significant business venture. Natalie Portman, who just turned 30, has begun to establish herself as a successful actor-producer, releasing three films that she starred in and produced, including “No Strings Attached,” a $25 million movie that made nearly $150 million at the global box office.

“New Year’s Eve” Trailer: Zac Efron Ring In 2012

Valentine’s Day director Garry Marshall is back with another star-studded ensemble movie, “New Year’s Eve.” The film centers on the intertwined lives of several couples and singles in New York on the last night of the year.

The cast includes a slew of A-listers, including “Valentine’s Day” stars Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel and Hector Elizondo along with Robert De Niro, Halle Berry, Katherine Heigl, Josh Duhamel, Lea Michele, Zac Efron, Abigail Breslin, Sofia Vergara, Alyssa Milano, Hilary Swank, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Abigail Breslin, Ice Cube, Seth Meyers, John Stamos, Jon Bon Jovi, John Lithgow, Ludacris and Ryan Seacrest, who plays himself.

“There’s going to be more celebrities here than rehab,” Heigl’s character says at one point, though she might as well be referring to the movie itself.

“New Year’s Eve” is set for a Dec. 9 release via Warner Bros.

Zac Efron To Mandy Moore: Entourage’s Best Guest Stars

t’s not the guest stars and the cameos that keep us coming back to “Entourage” season after season, but they certainly keep things interesting. While our main boys play characters on the HBO program, which follows the L.A. exploits of movie star Vince Chase and his entourage of best friends, the celebrity guest stars play themselves—albeit highly dramatized versions.

Every episode, a new selection of Hollywood A-listers caricature themselves in their hilarious appearances, and we can’t wait to see who this season brings. To prepare for the season 8 premiere this Sunday, we’ve listed our favorite celeb appearances of seasons past.

• Mandy Moore
Unlike lots of other actors, Mandy Moore’s appearance on the show casts the singer/actress in a positive light. As Vince’s ex-girlfriend who he’s still totally in love with, we see a sweet, vulnerable side of the movie star who usually gets whatever girl he wants.

• Zac Efron
Zac only shows up for a few minutes in season 6, but his straight-faced performance had us laughing out loud. In his cameo, he ditches his agent because the guy had promised Disney Zac would do a shirtless lunchbox. A mom with a tween daughter overhears the conversations and buts in “I’d buy that lunchbox.” So would we… so would we.

Zac Efron Helps Out Michelle Pfeiffer In “New Years Eve”

On the measure of the first trailer, Zac Efron appears to have a considerable role in the upcoming romantic comedy “New Year’s Eve.” The film boasts a stellar cast including Robert De Niro and Ashton Kutcher, but the teaser clip suggests Efron’s character will feature prominently.

The trailer, which hit the web on Tuesday and lasts for just over 1 minute, begins with the voiceover, “Some people swear there’s no beauty left in the world, no magic. Then how do you explain the entire world coming together on one night? To celebrate the hope of a new year.”

Efron is seen casually leaning on his bike in New York, before Michelle Pfeiffer’s character hands him a list, saying, “My New Year’s Eve resolutions. If you can make these come true by midnight, you get these,” before revealing a wad of tickets – Efron responds, “Four tickets to that party? You called the right guy!”

Later in the trailer, the actor reads from the list, saying, “Resolution number two – be amazed?” After brief glimpses of Sarah Jessica Parker, Halle Berry and Katherine Heigl, the trailer concludes with De Niro claiming, “Nothing beats New York on New Year’s Eve.”

Directed by Garry Marshall, the movie hits cinemas in the US and UK on 9th December 2011.

The 23-year-old actor stars opposite Dennis Quaid and Kim Dickens in the film, which is a drama about an enterprising family whose plans cause problems within his family.

Earlier in the month, Zac was spotted out with friends including Ryan Rottman and Rumer Willis for a day of shopping and hanging out in Studio City, Calif.
