i'm looking for the poster for this movie...it was a yellowish/ reddish background with a pic of Zhang dressed up like Geisha holding up a parasol looking down...she looks really lovely....i'm sure it was posted up earlier..maybe not

I have already read the book and cannot wait for the movie!!! The previews look really good! Also that little girl in it is from Rush Hour remember? She was singing Mariah Carey's song at the back of the car in rush hour. She was soo cute!

i'm also expecting this movie...it seems like an interesting story
but from what i read there is a buzz about the actresses being chinese....
some people told me that it might its chances to the oscar...
all i know it's that people don't seem to like that fact very much...
oh neither do i...if the movie isn't a huge success because of that i'll be glad..
i find deeply offensive the fact that chinese stars are staring in this movie instead of japanese ones... :innocent:

sorry if that sounds blunt..i just don't see why people would take this to heart..it's just a movie and by her playing a japanese character isn't hurting anyone or insulting anyone for that matter...but that's just my personal opinion

It is a Chinese actor playing a Japanese role. Geishas are Japanese, a fact everybody knows, or so I thought.

everybody does know that..but the point is...does it really matter that a chinese girl is playing a japanese girl??
what is the problem besides the fact that she is chinese...is it a mroe racist thing or what..coz i really dont' get it.
if she plays the part well enough..isn't that ok

maybe they auditioned japanese girls..but none were right for the part or didn't portray Sayuri as well as Zhang did.....none of us know..so who are we to judge....

yeah it's all about money and it's all just a movie but the fact that chinese actresses were chosen to play the roles of gueishas by americans just hide the fact of well...prejudice...it's like saying chinese, korean and japanese is all the same thing...sorry but i think that's offensive...you're probably not from this ethnicity...so you don't care because it's not you... :rolleyes:

ianyways i just think people are forgetting what's so offensive about it...of course there is nothing wrong with a chinese playing a japanese person unless there are all those circumstances that i'm telling you...
but from what i've heard more people are going to criticize it and it might ruin its chances with the oscar... :innocent:

i don't know...anyways if the movie is good than i guess i can forgave that fact but it needs to be good, that's all i'm asking for... :flower:

well...maybe they wanted a very well know actress to play the part..i dont' know of the top of my head....of too many big japanese stars that have made it big in hollywood...if there are any please let me know....
and no, i'm not japanese, korean or even chinese..but i do have asian blood in me..i don't think that really matters though..i guess it just depends on how sensitive you are on matters like these

i personally think they only reason the movie would not get a oscar nomination is if it wasn't a great movies..nothing to do with chinese characters in a japnese based movie

my grandaparents were japanese...and i have many asian descendant friends...so i'm kinda used to seeing many people not knowing to tell the difference between one and the other...anyways...i always get excited in discussions and argumentations stuff... :lol:
