Zooey Deschanel

That film looks so cute! ^_^ I can't wait to see it.

I had a dream about Zooey last night! I dreamed that I saw her in an airport, and went over to ask if I could take a photo with her, and she said yes and let me. But then when I looked at my digital camera after she had walked away, the photo wasn't there, and I was really sad! Haha. Strange dream, but yeah. :p

I don't care for the song so much! Probably because it's 90% M Ward and only 10% Zooey.

The summer season calls for ease in all areas of life: backyard barbeques, lazing Saturday away in the sun, and effortless dressing. Regarding the latter, one of our classic, favorite options, which happens to look particularly inviting right now, is the shirt dress. It’s the perfect item to add to your wardrobe right now, as its versatility makes it a practical buy and this is definitely an item with longevity. They’ll still be fashionable this fall, when you can take a page from Zooey Deschanel’s book and wear your lightweight pieces with tights or layer them over trousers.

The shirt dress has been around in various incarnations for ages. Poiret (whose work is currently exhibited at the Met) designed one of the first styles. In the 1950’s, full-skirted shirt dresses were the garb of choice for the era’s style icons like Donna Reed. Today’s shirt dress is perhaps most closely related to the 1970’s version, created by Yves Saint Laurent and Halston.

The price point for shirt dresses is about as varied as it gets. While Burberry Prorsum (the right runway image, above) and Chloe made some super luxe silk version that retailed for several thousand dollars, you don’t really need to spend that much. While we covet Luella’s Weymouth, blue silk, shirt dress shown here ($402.50, net-a-porter.com), AKA New York’s Boyfriend Shirt Dress is equally yummy ($272, shopbop.com

). Nili Lotan also makes a slew of awesome shirt dresses that are so amazing even Kate Moss owns them! One of our favorites is Lotan's incredibly soft, Sea Island Cotton Tuxedo Dress ($340, kateboutique.com).

Some other sweet finds include the above Vivienne Westwood’s Striped Button-Up dress ($448, refinery29.com) and Steven Alan’s Christine Tunic Shirt-Dress ($180, refinery29.com). We also could see ourselves in Trovata’s Shoreline Dress, on sale at Barneys New York right now ($119, barneys.com).

To get the most wear out of your shirt dress, you should realize that it’s appropriate for almost all occasions. You can wear a short-sleeved, loose version as a chic alternative cover-up to the pool or beach. It’s the perfect outfit for a hangover too. Your brain won’t hurt, wondering if your outfit works, when you wear a shirt dress, flats, and a headscarf (a quick cover for bed head). For a night out, just belt the shirt dress, add heels, and select a few interesting pieces of jewelry. A long-sleeved version is ideal for cool summer nights because you won’t have to worry about losing your sweater. And then when it gets cold, you can just throw it over jeans—perfect!

I like how Zooey is a fairly feminine dresser, but there is something slightly offbeat about her (in a good way!). I think it's the way she styles her hair, and those black opaques. It's a bit kooky.

Zooey perfomed with the citizen band again in NYC @ June 12.

Helena Christensen, Erin Fetherston, Josh Hartnett, and Liv Tyler all came out to support the vaudevillian collective known as the Citizens Band last night as they performed the Manhattan debut of Masquerading in Paradise at the Highline Ballroom. Those in the unofficial VIP area were treated to the sight of Liv Tyler mimicking the high kicks and hip shakes being executed on stage by Sarah Sophie Flicker, Rain Phoenix, Jorjee Douglass, and a seven-months-pregnant Karen Elson. Backed by an eight-piece band, the troupe, which totaled 23 people in all, cavorted in Weimar-style corsets and thigh-high stockings as they sang about war and environmental issues. And it wasn't all talk and no action: A portion of the evening's proceeds benefits the Friends of the High Line.

Set List here.
• Gasoline Theme - The Orchestra & Chelsea Bacon
• Bad Times Are Just Around The Corner - Ronin & Ian Buchanan
• Fortune Teller- Rain Phoenix
