12 yr old Dakota Fanning in controversial new film role

I feel sorry for Dakota...everybody treats her like an adult..and she believes she is one..but there's this mentality as a child that everybody has, at the time you feel so mature but in retrospect the mind works a lot differently at a young age. It must be isolating for her - one minute she thinks adults are her friends and equals, but I doubt any of them invite her out to dinner or for cocktail parties.

i think she is a wonderful actress..and ive said this before and will say it again, i believe she (or whoever) has made some pretty good decisions regarding her career thus far, its almost as if she is underestimated and expected to play 12 year old girls who play in the sandbox. she is taken very seriously as an actress, and yes she is young- but the roles she chooses help advance her career. thats not to say that MORALLY speaking, this isnt quite right.

^ i dont think her acting ability is being underestimated...
but i think even if she is the most aware, sensitive, talented 12-yr old on the planet, she is still not an adult..........and even adults go through some major trauma when delving into roles like this......

its not that she's not capable of playing this part.......i think what is being questioned is the effects of something like that once the movie is said and done.......and why as a parent you would possibly encourage your child to explore something like that when she is obviously not a grown woman and will not fully realise the effects until many years down the road.....

a 12 year cannot understand the full effects of something like this and remain completely detached........i dont care what anyone says

^ your last sentence is perfection. i do agree, i was just simply saying that i think the reason she is chosen for these roles is because she is taken very seriously, i think people do fail to take into account that she is still very, very young...because of her ability to act and be treated like an adult.

oh i see....i agree with you, i do think she's considered to be a very good actress for her age.....but that is dangerous because it becomes the focus, instead of remembering that she's in a crucial stage of development........

Whoa! Sundance is a buzz with Hounddog...saying , "One of the most unsettling , disturbing scenes in movie history...":ninja:

Hounddog: "A tastefully rendered tale of an innocent and beautiful preteen girl who is artistically, but violently raped in full nudity with accompanying random (but sensitive) full nude shots of the little girl."

i think her parents need to be seriously questioned....

Want to hear something even scarier?......Dakota has a little sister who just turned 8 years old and is also an actor!!! Elle has joined Dakota in Utah for the Sundance screening of Hound Dog.:ninja:

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see anything wrong with it. If Dakota and her family felt that she could handle it then it is their choice. She was not nude for any of the filming. I truly believe that people want to judge the re-creation when the fact is - horrific acts like these happen in real life, to real children every day. The focus should be on that and hopefully the attention this could bring to that and the kids it could save!

nessalee- it may be their choice.......it doesnt mean its a healthy one.....
how can they have full nude shots of her if she didnt shoot any scenes nude?.....

horrific acts like this DO happen in real life....
there are enough young women who grow up and spend their lifetime trying to heal....
there is no need for young girls to VOLUNTARILY go through that healing process by taking a role like this imo....

but thats enough from me........my opinions are known

Yes, things like this happen to real children every day, but that does not make it any less horrific. And, it does not make the recreation of it using another real child any more acceptable.
Also, maybe Dakota is the most mature, self-aware, emotionally stable 12 year old in the world, but even if that's true, this movie sets a precedent for the whole movie industry by saying that it is ok to put children in situations such as this.

All new articles that I've read on the movie have confirmed that at no time was Dakota nude during filming and there is no nude footage of her. After protestors attempted to halt production while filming in Wilmington, NC, authorities looked into the matter and confirmed that no such child p*rn*gr*phy had taken place. I think a lot of it is sensationalism. I mean it's on film for the world to see, so it's very confirmable. Basically the only thing in question is whether or not a child should be permitted to simulate it...I understand a lot of people are ademantly against it. I personally do not have a problem with it, but I respect anyone who feels otherwise.

<--- this was tongue-in-cheek Hollywood speak.

Supporters of the film portray it as "tasteful" and "artistic." Oh, I get it......a tasteful & artistic r*pe of a 12 year old girl by a 20-something man?

Predators like John Mark Carr are, um, salivating.....:yuk:
