Yes, sad that Jennifer Lawrence was overlooked (and the rest of the Winter's Bone cast). Also no love for Blue Valentine.

I'm surprised Lesley Manville isn't getting nominated especially at the BAFTAs. I saw Another Year yesterday and I thought she was fantastic in it. A really heartbreaking performance.

There may be a couple of surprises with nominations but I think Colin Firth, Natalie Portman and the best picture, director and screenplay nominations for The Social Network will win an Oscar.

She was nominated at the BAFTAs - for Supporting Actress. Personally I found her performance to be a little bit over-the-top for my liking.

Ooops! Her character was over the top but I felt that worked for the story. I think she was able to convey so much with her eyes. I found the character of Gerri quite unlikeable in the film.

I'd love to see Barbara Hershey nominated for best supporting actress but I don't think she will unfortunately.

how appalling....'i am love' didn't even get a nod for cinematography nor best costume....both which everyone has said would at the very least be a shoe-in for. listen,i knew it was probably wishful thinking to see tilda nominated but i am quite shocked by that.

and i agree....julianne and annette in the same category again? playing politics as usual. same crap the previous awards have gone. they need to discern priorities here and so far annette's performance has been getting the most praise.

We got a huge shocker on our hands, The King's Speech just won the PGA for Best Picture, beating the heavy favorite The Social Network. I literally thought Social Network could not lose any of the awards given its track record so far, but guess it's more vulnerable than people thought. I'd still say Social Network is the frontrunner for the Oscar, but it's definitely going to be a more interesting race.

I'm not only shocked but disappointed too. I just watched King's Speech this week and while it was fine, it was really conventional and very much by the numbers. I was really skeptical of Social Network beforehand, but it's really a much more exciting and fresh film. Hopefully it will still prevail at the end.

Barbara was nominated! I'm ecstatic over her nomination and it gives me greater hope that she'll be nominated for the Oscar. I'm glad Mila wasn't nominated (her performance was nothing special).

^Mila Kunis provided some much needed light relief in Black Swan, I thought. She impressed me a lot more than Natalie who I found a little one dimensional.

And I thought Andrew Garfield was fantastic!
Justin Timberlake was just awful, but Garfield broke my heart. I loved that performance.

Although I personally think the Oscars are a joke, I'm actually looking forward to this year's ceremony (unlike last year's Slim Pickings nominees). I've already seen several of the movies vying for tomorrow's nominations. And if the predictions are correct, then this should make for an interesting Oscar year. I do wish that the Academy would do away with naming 10 nominees for Best Picture, and just go back to the 5-nominee format. Because really, it's usually just 2 of the nominated movies that actually stand a chance of winning Best Picture. In this year's case, it looks like it'll all come down to a showdown between The Social Network and The King's Speech. And though it seems more likely that TSN (with its current momentum) will win the BP award, TKS has an advantage in that it's still playing in theaters, whereas TSN is already out on DVD. A BP winner still in theaters = more people will go see it (or will see it again). Not to mention that TKS won the Producers' Guild Award for best picture.

And btw, I just saw Winter's Bone last night for the first time, and I loved Jennifer Lawrence's performance in it. I'd love to see her get a Best Actress nomination. I'm also rooting for the cast from TKS, The Fighter, Black Swan, and Animal Kingdom to get nominations. Also James Franco in 127 Hours.

The two I'm holding out for are Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling, and that's because I know there is a good chance they'll be snubbed. I think Williams probably has a better chance, but I can see Hailee Steinfeld going lead and knocking Williams out. Boo! A Julianne Moore nomination would also be a great surprise, but again, she would probably push Williams out.

I personally don't want to see Mila Kunis nominated, either. I love her, but the performance was very forgettable (except for the "Did you have some sort of lezzie wet dream about me?" scene).

I'm a huge fan of Black Swan and I love Mila but I really don't think her role is "oscar worthy". Yeah she could get away with it at the Golden Globes but Oscars? I don't know.

But hey, Penelope Cruz got nominated and won for Vicky Christina Barcelona so anything is possible.

For some reason I've been thinking about it today, what if Diane Lane makes it for Secretariat? Probably impossible, but not without precedent - Tommy Lee Jones anyone? Probably more likely though, for a surprise nominee, is someone to 'tag along' with Robert Duvall from Get Low, either Sissy Spacek or Bill Murray.
