Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

all you need is a theme to focus on ^ :-)
some fashion blogs are about only upcoming designers
i've also seen ones that are just on knitting or shoes/bags or personal style/stories
I would love some feedback concerning my blog ladies. Do you think I need more visuals?

i think there's a lot of white space... and your personal style pics might be better on a neutral background. like a very bare, blank wall... there is a lot going on in the back that detracts from your clothes

i also think you should up the saturation and contrast in your pics somehow to give them more life ^^

Just started a new one today....
Burnt Toast With Coffee
It's not one of those "post pictures of my outfits" kinda blog.... it's more of my interests actually. I wanted to do one of those blogs, but every other fashion blog I've come across to has been like that and they all have the same basic concepts of trends.

Before I even start this journey, I was just wondering what you guys think is a better place to start a blog: blogspot or wordpress? I much prefer the way wordpress looks but it seems like there's a higher possibility of wider readership etc. with blogspot. Any opinions about this?

I use blogspot and I like it, but wordpress is great too. It really jut depends on what you want your blog to look like and how you want your readers to experience it.

I have a question: I started a blog on blogger.com but really like sugar. I imported my original blogger.com blog onto sugar. I created new posts on sugar. Is there a way for the sugar posts to show up on my blogger.com blog as well?

For anyone who uses StatCounter, have you ever clicked the "Recent Keyword Activity" link to see what keyword searches people had done in finding your blog? If you haven't, do it now! It's totally amusing! Here are some of the searches people had done (and I'm not really sure how some of these turned up my blog ):

"do beautiful people know their gorgeous?"
"calm towns before a tornado"
"hey u! how u been? wow soo long since"
"you don't know ur friend and I don't either"
"london hotel travel fun-bad post a comment -crap -sh*t -murder -killed -comments-are-moderated-and-will-not-appear-until-the-author-has-approved-them site:blogspot.com" (It got really violent there in the middle, right have we were traveling and having fun haha.)

But it is semi-helpful too, I found a lot of people had searched something like, "girlmeet blogspot" or similar, which I guess means the NYC part isn't as catchy as the "girlmeets" part, of my blog name. ;)

thats so funny Susanna-Cole! and also a really good tip! i kind of want to add that to my site just so i can see what people type in! haha

You should totally try out StatCounter, it's free and there's so many great features, so much more than just seeing how many visitors you get! ^_^ (And really who can resist reading people's strange Google searches. :p)

Yeah I have that, people search for the most random things. Because I wrote a post titled 'Pinch Punch first of the month' on the first of every month, people find it by entering that in. Also lot's of random song lyrics and 'primark jeggings' send you to my blog. Despite this, plenty of people are typing in the blog name from random places, which also intrigues me. I'd also like to know how so many people arrive from Facebook.

i love stat counter. its always funny seeing where all the visitors are from. its weird when you find that some come from the middle of like nowhere hahaha.

^^Yeah, but it's kind of cool to know people have visited your blog even from, like, the middle of nowhere!

But darn it, those keyword search results led me to more people plagiarizing my writing. :( I can't decide between being sad about how many people plagiarize and being downright furious.

I did not even know about stat counter! Just installed it be interesting to know how many people look at it other than followers and people that comment. Seeing what people search for looks quite amusing too!http://struttlamode.blogspot.com

Yeah, Stat Counter is awesome, I love it! ^_^ And seeing what people search for, is definitely amusing. :shifty: I've noticed a lot of people treat Google like a magic 8 ball, asking it questions, like:

"will me remember a girl met overseas?"

And some ask rather deep, interesting questions like:

"how does god choose dreamers?"

Some just sound creepy and have bad spelling:

"verry verry joung girls"

And lots, and lots of dudes want to know where to meet NYC girls. (I just learned that if you type "meet nyc girls" in Google, my blog comes up first, which sucks for those who search, cause my blog is not exactly a dating community.)

I read through this whole thread and I'm still alittle confused, I need some opinions on what site to use. I'm interested on making a fashion/music blog and I would like to make revenue off of it (I know it can take a while for that to happen). I don't know anything making a blog so I need something that's easy to use and free to start off with.

Any tips for me?

^ Agreed.

Comment on as many blogs as possible. That's what has helped me the most (unfortunately I'm too lazy to do it very often :P). Also posting on sites like chictopia and lookbook.

:flower:
i've never comented in a lot of blogs, i guess it is a matter or time.. i guess,, and quality maybe.
