Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

I have a problem. I don't know to consider it big or small, but it's still my problem.

How do you get followers? I've been open and running for 2 months, and only 3 followers on bloglovin'. Bloglovin'! None on the Google following tool! It's really getting me down. -_-

I've networked to no avail. I try to post interesting things, but since it's fashion week it's pretty much same old same old. But still...

And ideas/advice?

I'm a Wordpress User so Bloglovin, I don't really know for the followers.
But if you follow a lot of people, you got more chance to got followers.

To get some visitors (maybe soon followers), the best thing to do is to use....facebook (make a Fan page), Twitter (be first, link your site, be interesting)....

Also to use META-Tags ! ! !

vogueparislover - I think the link in your sig is broken? Fix that up and it might give you a good start ^_^

I agree completely - Wordpress is so much better than blogger (no offense to people who like it). Google acquired Blogger sometime around 2003, lets just say nothing about its code has been updated since. I found it so hard to get a professional layout on that I actually liked.

For people starting out I'd suggest linking blogs that are similar to yours, updating often, hearting your photos at weheartit (be sure to tag) and commenting on other people blogs (dont spam). When I started out it was fairly hard, for a few months I only got around 100 hits a day, if that. Just stick with it, it'll get better.

Ok wow, Fashionography, you've only had your blog for two months and you've got 9 followers? I've had mine for 2 months as well but I've only got 4 followers and have only just started to get about 10-15 visitors a day. And still only two comments.

Would anyone mind checking out my blog (it's in my signature) and telling me what they think/how to improve it?

Thanks ^_^

^ Peachy, you need more pictures. A LOT more pictures. People look for pictures first.

^ I think you could do more with the layout, it looks a bit generic. Maybe try out a logo?

I've checked your blog, Squizree, and I think you should improve your illustrations, they look very bad only because you can tell they've been photographed and not scanned (and have a few adjusted colors, contrast, etc) ...and maybe their heads... then they'll be perfect :D
Otherwise, it has an amazing layout and appearance , it was really worth buying that domain

^  Is it that obvious?! The thing is that the drawings are A3 size and my scanner can only scan half of that at a time :( !! What do u think I should do?
What do u mean about the heads? Do they need to be drawn together?

But thanks HEAPS for your suggestions!!

.... and yet so few bloggers pay for the pictures they use ;-)

It isnt just bloggers, dont be so catty. No one on here pays for the pictures they use or scan to give out. Most of the time I am bringing a lot of attention to the designer/photographer/stylst (I dont just focus on big brands). I have gotten a lot of thank you emails for showcasing their work and was even invited to two shows at NY fashion week. They see this as press, not stealing. Of course if you see it as stealing, thats fine, but the majority do not. Just be sure to you credit the owner/designer's website, just dont spam a bunch of images without a source.

^^Agreed. I don't pay for any of the photos I use on my blog, but as for photographers whose work I have featured, all have only been but flattered and appreciative, never demanding for me to pay some fee. If anything, having their work featured helps expose their work and potentially bring them in new paying jobs.

Just remember to properly credit, with the photographer's name and/or site URL. :flower: In the case that you don't, well, then they may not be flattered or happy. :innocent:

Oh, and never use/feature other's work in something you are directly making money from, without their permission, as in that situation, they'll likely want a cut of a profits, and rightly so, and not doing so, would constitute as stealing not featuring, in my opinion.

Sorry for the double post.  I just remembered that I wanted to add, for anyone considering starting a blog...I'd highly recommend contemplating on your blog name for a good while, and not just randomly picking something, rather like I did. :innocent:

When I named my blog, I choose a name (Girl Meets NYC) that made sense and worked at the time I made my blog, but now I've met NYC, and I've left NYC, and who knows if I'll be back or not, and basically this has made my blog name irrelevant and I'd really like to change it, but alas, I feel it's a little late for that now. :ninja:

Of course, when I first made my blog, I also never thought I'd stick with it long or that anyone would really read it, which is why I didn't think much about naming it, but really, don't make that assumption if you're beginning a blog, you may just stick with it, and you don't want to be stuck with a name you no longer like or that no longer fits. ;)

^ You know I find your irrelevance kinda charming though. What I mean is that regardless of you not being in NYC, you still feel connected to it because it's a home of style for you. And that attachment to NYC in a way IS still staying relevant ^_^

Aw, well I'm happy it's (sort of) irrelevance doesn't bother you like it sometimes bothers me. ^_^ Sometimes I've thought, if I were to alter it slightly though, I would have maybe made it Girl Meets World...then I'd be covered no matter where I go! But then Girl Meets World always makes me think of the only TV show "Boy Meets World", so...I don't know. :stuart:

I've just started blogging, I'm so new to it all though..have no idea how to get people to actually visit/read my blog  .. I think atm, I'm doing it more for myself than for the readers, I like having a space to keep my 'visual inspirations' all together in one place. Either way, the blog link is in my signature, would appreciate any advice. Just started it a week ago though. :flower:

My advice is to keep that very mindset you mentioned having now, because I think it all has to begin and end with you doing it because you want to, because it makes you happy. If someone goes about blogging with the thought process of "will others like this?" I think it can only go all wrong from there. It's an unneeded worry, and also, if it's to be a personal blog, then I believe one must keep it personal, by always staying faithful to their own tastes and aesthetics.

In fewer words: I think you're definitely on the right track! :flower:
