I was wonder what peoples thoughts are on posting outfits? I'm thinking about adding that to my blog and was wondering what everyone's general opinion is?

It really depends on the clothes that are featured and the way the picture is taken.
Personally, if the clothes are particulary beautiful, designer accessories/clothes, put together in a creative way, I enjoy watching them (Sea of shoes, The Sartorialist, etc.). Same thing if the picture of the outfit is part of a larger story.
If it's just "regular" clothes, if the picture is taken in an ugly setting, I'm really not interested. Here's an example of what not to do IMO (by the way, can someone explain to me why this girl's blog is popular on Bloglovin' in France?):

lola-june.blogspot.com

yeah i dont understand when girls takes pictures of themselves and the credit and like everything H&M and there is 20 photos of the same location and its horrid and boring. or even 1 or 2 and they are just bad ^^ like that one

She might be famous in France because is a regular cute girl, other girls identify themselves as her on reading maybe....

I don't really appreciate a blog with girls on H&M, Zara and co. But in one way, I can understand that a 18 years old girl don't have enough money to buy designer clothes.

As an man I feel not comfortable to do that, I don't mind during fashion week to be take on picture for magazine. And be asked the brands that I'm wearing... But by myself, on my own site...nope !

Not a big fan of people showing off...
I'm more on putting what would I buy, without showing the world that I bought it. ; )

Again McClaire the main question is what kind of Fashion blog you have ?

^^^
Im 17 and the only reason I can afford designer clothing is because i work 6 days a week and i don't spend money on alcohol or fast fashion and only buy investment pieces.
But most teenagers cant do it.
And I think there is a thin line between showing off and doing an outfit post where you happen to be wearing something designer.

I agree with you.

I agree with you. I think it's OK however if you explain why the piece is special or has an interesting story (I personally enjoy reading these type of posts because I'm interested in beautiful designer pieces).
I think it's also OK if the picture of you wearing something designer is part of a larger story (for example, I took pictures of myself wearing Hermès scarves, but it was at the end of my post on the J'aime mon carré campaign to illustrate my point and my focus was on how to wear it creatively, not on how lucky I am to borrow a scarf from my mother's closet).
In the end, it all depends on how it's written / presented.

^^ Completely agree, I try to really highlight a piece by showing how special it is to me.. because i know how hard i had to work for it and illustrate its story.

Your blog is very comprehensive! ^_^I love how it covers a lot of subjects!!!

Personally, I love daily street style, it's what captures my attention more! :flower:

I don't agree that you need to have a designer piece to be BEAUTIFUL to show your outfit! It's all a question of how! Pictures taken with stretched arms won't do the trick, imo... But it's a way of starting! ^_^ Showing yourself is NOT SHOW-OFF, imo, it's sharing your point of view about fashion in the most personal way! So, absolutely approved! :D

I completely agree. Not everyone can afford designer clothing and to simply say that only people with designer clothing should do outfit posts is crass. A lot of the blogs I see with excessive designer clothing are hurriedly thrown together with no thought except "Hey, I can afford these things so I'm going to wear them and blog about them."

Kudos to the people that can afford designer clothing and do so tastefully though.

I hope my post wasn't misunderstood. As I said, I love beautiful designer pieces, but I've also been impressed by girls posting outfits that I thought were very stylish or could have been taken for Isabel Marant for instance, only to read that they come from Zara. Some people have natural class/style and can make any piece of clothing look great, designer or not, and that's something I enjoy seeing.
Once again, what I don't like to see is an outfit on a blog that is not relevant whatsoever or tacky, etc. And it's even more irritating when the person seems to be full of herself and posts 10 pictures of the same stuff.

Well I hope I am one of those!

I like when people post their outfits but I like blogs that have more of an editorial sensibility. I think Jane from Sea of Shoes does this perfectly. She'll post pics of herself but you can tell from her writing that she is truly passionate about fashion and not just showing off her closet.

I've just set up a Tumblr where I'll be posting images from the history of fashion: Style History. Do you guys prefer text/photo credits to be listed below photos or is it OK to only see them if you hover over photos considering this isn't a very much text-oriented blog?

I am sorry, but I would love to see more text since this is a history of fashion blog. Are you going to write about designers houses or are you just going to post images that you like? If that second than you can write why do you like that image or who is on the image and which designer is he/she wearing. Anyway, lovely blog. I love the theme :flower: It could be usefull cause some people don't know the whole history of fashion houses.

Great idea for a blog and nice choice of pictures indeed! I like the way you currently credit them so that they are not "polluted" by text and it makes them stand out more.

Speaking of history of fashion, I wrote a post on 1930s fashion a month ago that got a lot of comments from readers; you might like it!
