Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

^ It's nothing groundbreaking, but mentioning it on Twitter, Facebook, prominently on your own blog and when commenting on other's blogs should do the trick

Seriously, i have like 6 people commented that give away and i did those things you suggested.

I am doing something wrong obviously. Who wouldnt want free stuff?

More help!:blush::D

I don't know if this is allowed for giveaways on TFS, but you could put a link to it in your signature so people will learn about it when they read your posts :flower:

Thank you for telling me that. What about youtube videos?

YouTube is trickier as far as embedding etiquette should go because a mass amount of those videos do not belong to those who uploaded them. See if you can find who made/owns the video if it's not obvious, and make sure they receive credit if you embed it.

If a YouTube video has embedding disabled, don't try and get around it, especially if the person who uploaded the video actually has the rights to it, respect their wishes. (Or send them a message and ask about whether it'd be possible for you to embed it on your blog or if they'd really prefer that it's not embedded anywhere). If embedding is allowed, go ahead and embed it, list credit(s) for the appropriate people and you shouldn't have any troubles.

The truth is most won't mind if you embed their videos elsewhere, as long as you don't claim them as your own, give incorrect credits, make money from them, etc... you know, essentially wronging them, because otherwise it's free publicity and promotion from them, and it's likely they'll appreciate it.

Hope that helps! :flower:

An interesting post on quality content from Daily Blog Tips

The 5 Reasons Why Your Content Sucks

So, you’ve set up a blog. You registered a domain that tells the world what your blog is about, and maybe you’ve even hired a professional to design your templates for you. Your blog looks as slick as possible, and yet, you’re still not getting traffic.
There’s one reason that’s very likely to be the problem – your content just plain sucks.
You see, when you start a blog, you have as much chance as anyone to get traffic to your site. However, if that traffic arrives there, and finds nothing even vaguely useful or interesting, then they’re not likely to return. This is why your traffic suffers. People are spending a few seconds on your blog, deciding they’re not interested, and leaving, never to return.
If you want to rectify the problem, and rebuild your traffic, you need to understand why your content sucks. Here are our top five reasons.
1. You Have Nothing New to Say (Or Nothing at All)

Too many bloggers rehash everything they’ve seen on other websites or blogs. What’s worse even than that though are bloggers who really have nothing to say. Find something that YOU would be interested in reading about, before you just write whatever pops into your head. If you’d be interested, other people will be too.
2. You Think Research Is Something Other People Do

Even if you have something great to write about, you still have to research. Giving people the wrong information is a cardinal sin to bloggers, so make sure that you always have all your facts straight. If not, at best, your readers will think you’re a joke. At worst, you could open yourself up for lawsuits. Just avoid it, and do your research before you write and post.
3. Your Writing Style Has All the Sex Appeal of Damp Newspaper

Come on! People want to read blogs that are funny, exciting or interesting. If your posts are dull, gray, and loaded with technical jargon and high brow literary style prose, no one will want to read them! Write as if you were talking to a friend, and you should find people more willing to read your content.
4. You Don’t Believe In Checking Spelling and Grammar

You don’t have to be a potential Pulitzer Prize winning writer to have a great blog. But your content has to make sense. If your posts are garbled, make no sense, and are littered with spelling and grammar mistakes, you make it hard for your readers to finish them. Make sure you check your spelling and grammar and that you preview your post before you upload it.
5. Paragraphs, Lists and Subheadings are Foreign Territory to You

You can be the best writer in the world, and have the most interesting content around. However, if it’s all presented in one solid block of text, I can guarantee you, no one will read it. Break your content up, and make it scannable by using bullets and numbered lists, breaking text into paragraphs, and using subheadings. Make it easy for people to read your content, and they’re more likely to do just that.
Once upon a time, the Internet was a small, elite place. There was even a website that used to list all the new sites on the fledgling World Wide Web. These days, however, it’s less like a small village, and more like a gigantic city, with people from around the world. People have choices about what they follow online, and that means that now, more than ever, your content needs to be great.
Even though the Internet may seem to have an anything goes policy, there are some strict unwritten rules about what makes a good site or blog. The good news is that you, and anybody else, can learn those rules, and apply them to your blog to increase its popularity.
Of course, you still have to have something interesting to say, but understanding the technicalities can help ensure that there are people who will listen. So before you blindly launch your blog or website, take the time to learn the rules. It’ll make building a successful blog a whole lot easier.

I love it! How true is that?

Thanks for posting that, FrenchCactus.

^ Great post, this is why I feel personally style blogs can be easier to write, as opposed to the more 'newsy' variety

I don't see it that way at all. I find that I enjoy fashion blogs with interesting comentary and carefully selected images to illustrate the point. I get really bored by just a bunch of images with minimal comentary about how someone loves this or that.

I want to hear the writer's point of view, see relationships I never noticed between different collections and peices, hope that they show me something that I never noticed before and bring forward facts that I didn't know.

So I think a great fashion blog is just a labor intensive as a "newsy" one ... if it's going to hold my interest.

^ I meant easier in the way that, everything is so personal that it can flow out naturally, rather than trying to write the news in a different way. If you take an outfit photo and write your opinions on it whilst incorporating a few bits about trends it's far more natural to write, than analysing a collection that's been written about already by style.com etc. Plus it's more likely to be original. I know most blogs are pretty labour intensive, what with taking and editing photos.

You're welcome fo the post! Glad you like it too ;)

I see a lot of fashion bloggers have a Independant Fashion Blogger banner. What is it exactly, a network? Is anyone here part of it and could tell me more about it?

Hey guys, I'm new to the whole blogging thing, but I already love it.
Would you guys care to share some of your expertise with me? My blog

Ive been following this thread for a few weeks but havent been through it entirely yet. (sorry if my question has already been answered:) i want to know what the difference between and in what case a blogger, tumblr and wordpress blog should be used?
I had a blogger one that i deleted because i got tired of it, and i wanted something where i could have different pages to separate the different things i want to talk about (or just post images since im not good with words... ^_^ ) and have a page where i can clear my closet and sell things. Any suggestions? :)
