Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

fashionguru, yes I'm afraid that the lack of beautiful pictures is something I have to work on. I too enjoy looking at blogs with beautiful pictures. My idea of photography is just point and shoot! Really bad since I'm not maximizing the functions of my camera.

For the stats, just go to Design -> Page Elements, then Add a Gadget 'blog's stats'.

Thank you so much for your kind words lovely lethargy :flower:. I really appreciate you taking the time to look over my blog. I hope you will keep visiting! I was also wondering if I should change the font of the title of the blog and make it look more professional instead of the girly one I have right now; what do you think?

No problem. I enjoy helping out where I can.

That's an excellent point. I would say it depends on how comfortable you are with such a "girly" font. I might change it to something simpler, like Georgia or Trebuchet MS, but you have to be careful that it's not too plain. It's sort of a process of trial and error, I suppose. Also, I would make sure that your background on the banner is completely transparent, if you know what I mean.

Also, I only have the time to skim at the moment, but your new posts seem interesting. Keep it up.

I know there are some serious bloggers on tFS and I was hoping to start a good discussion. I know there are a few threads with tips on starting a blog and designing and such, but I was thinking about something a bit more specific.

  1. Where do you start your posts?
  2. How do you work on focusing your content?
  3. Where do you get inspiration for blog posts (surroundings, your opinions)?
  4. Have you found some topics are too over done or others that should get more attention?
  5. How are you unique in the big, wide blogosphere?
Obviously everyone has a different niche and a different focus, but I think these are good questions to get the ball rolling. I hope everyone else can add to the discussion. If you have any questions of your own, please add them!

Other helpful blogging threads on tFS can be found here, here, here, and here

Mods, I hope I posted this in the correct place. I apologize if I haven't.

I left this in it's own thread for a week, but since no one responded, I would guess that they just didn't see it ... because it's a good topic. So, I opted to move it into this thread where so many bloggers come and hope that some can offer some ideas about how they arrive at deciding blog content ... and maybe what inspires them.

Anyone?

Haha I know what you mean about taking pictures, I still have so much to learn!

Thanks for helping me with the stats:flower:

Thanks for your input it greatly appreciated :flower: I'm still trying to decide what to do. I am somewhat more girly than most and when I was testing out fonts, I thought that was a cute and fun font but I also want to be taken seriously so I didn't know if I should change it to something more professional...

Uh oh, Is my title not transparent? I'm not seeing it show on my side?

Well, I don't think anyone would take you any less seriously if you used that font, so if you really like it, stick with it. And it might be that it's just fuzzy on my screen...

Thanks for that Wordpress link! Sounds like a wonderful idea on their part.

Norwegian Fashion

I would love some feedback on my blog / online magazine - http://www.norwegianfashion.no.

What do you like / what do you hate?
And most important - what do you miss?

The site runs on Wordpress and is customized by me.

And of course... the site is still a work in progress

So I decided to change it, let me know what you think! :flower:

I was wondering if anyone knew how to get the like button from facebook onto blogger. Do I have to make a fan page first?
Thanks!

^Yes, I'm pretty sure there must be something linked to facebook in the form of a page of sorts. :flower:

I've tidied up my place a little, do you think there's too much white space? I may have to make the banner a little wider as it looks quite uncomfortable. HERE

Thanks for answering my question. Now I'll answer yours ^_^

I love your banner, I think it looks great! I would love to do something like that, might you tell me how you did that?!

I think you might be right about having a little too much white space, for instance in the post of January 10th there is too much space between the paragraph and the title of the post. I also think the blue color is a little off-putting with the red, grey, and black colors but that's just me. I would also make the pictures just a little bigger to fill up some white space and put the credits directly under it without leaving a big gap.

Overall, I think you have a great concept! Good luck on your blog :flower:

^Thanks! Does anyone know how to change the posts titles? My current template does not allow that change, but perhaps there's a CSS code for it?

Technology newbie here, so if anyone knows the correct code for it, I'll be forever indebted!

Oh, and as for the facebook question from before, there's a blogspot widget that allows sharing posts on facebook.

hey guys so here's my blog http://twinfashion.blogspot.com/

i started it 3 months ago with my sister and even though it goes surprisingly good in terms of visitors (almost 73,000 already) i'd ask to give me some ideas of how to encourage/woo readers to leave more comments

i'd love some general feedback on it and maybe some ways of improvement? thank you!

I think the number of comments you get depends on the nature of your blog. I get the impression that blogs that get a high number of comments are the ones that engage with their readers, ask them questions in the posts, share something personal, etc. In general, blogs that just repost pictures do not get that many comments, especially if there is almost no text to accompany them.

Funny, I try to reduce the words... But I'm thinking it might get a bit stiff sometimes because of it. Does anybody feel the same?
