Advice about Starting & Promoting a Fashion Blog - See Post #1 for Thread Rules

hey guys so here's my blog http://twinfashion.blogspot.com/

i started it 3 months ago with my sister and even though it goes surprisingly good in terms of visitors (almost 73,000 already) i'd ask to give me some ideas of how to encourage/woo readers to leave more comments :)

i'd love some general feedback on it and maybe some ways of improvement? thank you!

FrenchCactus hit the nail on the head when she said that some blogs, either through format or subject matter, just do not encourage visitor engagement. I stumble on blogs at times that commenting on the posts seems redundant because there is nothing for me to respond to. There is no angle or blogger p.o.v...

hey guys ive just started a blog 2 months ago, Jerr Life. its a blog about my personal obsessions. its pretty straight forward but im worried its too wide of an angle and doesnt target a particular demographic.

anyway here are more of my questions and worries:

how do i increase traffic?
do you like the layout?
what gadgets should i add?
how do i promote it more(i comment on social sites such as this)?
do you think my niche is too wide

^ For these questions, you will find the answers in this thread and the previous one.

I think you could change your header to make it more personal & original so the reader can feel the "personality" of your blog right away (for example: finding a picture you like or a nice font).
Otherwise I like the layout: it's very clear and I enjoy the large pictures. I also like the fact that you state your opinions all while giving something valuable to readers.

thanks for the input. do you think my blog is too general though?

Being general may be a saving grace for a blog in its infancy. Make sure your titles include highly searchable terms. This way, you will increase your number of random stumblers, and maybe those people will return to the blog some time later! :woot: I noticed a significant rise in hits in my blog after simply putting "interview" in all the interview posts (you can also see which googling terms people used to get to your blog, on the stats bar of the blogger dashboard).

Hi everyone I would just like to ask for some critique from fellow fashion bloggers and readers. Please take a look at my blog and let me know where I could improve and what people like to read. I will be posting another post sometime today or tomorrow about a great talk we have just attended at uni regarding Autumn 2011/12 by Geraldine Clark.

The link to my blog is www.theprintroomdoor.blogspot.com

Thanks in advance everyone!

thanks everyone for checking out my blog. you guys actually drove my traffic up a bit.

anyway, im currently trying to learn about htmls, met tags, and search engine optimization. what a doozy. thankfully, there are tutorials on it.

hey guys,
ok soo, i've had this blog for a few years now. and i'm relatively happy with the amount of visitors i usually tend to get, only i've noticed that the numbers seem to have dipped lately.. :(
think you guys could check it out and let me know what's the deal?

for example, do i post too frequently? too seldom? are the posts too boring? i feel as though i've tried everything at this point, so another opinion would be wonderful :)

I would personally like it if the pictures were bigger on the homepage, if they were you are more likely to click and read further.

The pictures are tiny and you're not providing any information I can't get elsewhere.

I don't like the fact that you have to click several times and open a new window to actually get to read your blog.

Thanks for the feedback!..taken on board - will reduce from 2 clicks to 1. Unfortunately at the moment i cant embed my blog onto my website. And I also want to add more to my website than just a blog, which is why it opens a new window

ok, thanks for the feedback! all is appreciated:D
although, may i ask, which other information would viewers like me to feature in the posts? thanks:flower:

The first thing I noticed is that you don't allow comments. This might be an oversight but if not, I would suggest you consider turning them on. People like to input, not only peek and leave :flower:

Does anyone know how to re-jig my images so that they appear bigger on the screen without need for clicking through. Right now all my images are clickable but I am not sure if all my readers realise this so I have had requests to resize. I would like to know how to go about it because I know how important good images are!

Thanks in advance :)

Assuming you are using the photo uploader in blogger, you can just click on the photo while you're creating the post and you should get a little blue bar that comes up with preset image sizes (Small, medium, large, xlarge, original size, etc) You can also go into the "edit html" portion and find where it says height and width and change those numbers. Hope that helps.

Still would love to hear feedback about my blog if anyone has any!

Some form of original content that you add to the lifted content you're posting? If you just want to post images you like, if you don't want to talk about what you're showing, start using Tumblr instead.
