Ash’s power dressing in Sarkar Raj
Aishwarya has donned several avatars in the past two years, be it the beautiful Rajput princess Jodhaa In Jodhaa Akbar, the sweet and simple Gujrati wife in Guru or the sultry femme fatale in Dhoom 2. She carried off these diverse looks with élan and now she is all set to light up the screen with her powerful turn in Sarkar Raj.
Designer Falguni Thakur tells us about Ash’s power dressing in Sarkar Raj.
“I had designed the look for Sarkar so I knew what to design for Sarkar Raj. Ash’s character was the major addition,” says Falguni.
“Ash’s character, Anita Rajan is a very powerful, strong and confident yet feminine businesswoman. So her clothes are a mixture of linear power dressing sprinkled with feminity. The cuts are linear and structured, very simplistic and minimal; there are no frills. The colours are mainly black, grey, white and brown. To bring out the feminity in the character we have used soft fabrics like linen and voil,” explains the designer.
The look accentuates Ash’s abundant natural beauty and innocence. “Ram Gopal Varma, Ash and I designed the look. Ash’s character is very assertive, so we kept the make up very minimal, it is almost a no make up look. Ash was sporting enough to cut her hair for the
movie. Kanta from Kromakay salon has cut her hair with the side bang and is absolutely stunning,” says the designer in praise of Ash.
Ash plays a CEO in the movie and only high end brands would suit her persona. “Everything about Anita Rajan had to make a statement. She wears diamond and crystal solitaires. The style is simple yet solid. I think glares are an important part of the look and so we have used a Bulgari, a Gucci and a Ferragamo pair, which Ash picked up from Harrods in London. We have used Fendi shoes in colour combos like black and grey and browns. Most are patent front closed styles. We have used leather Gucci and Prada bags which make a very strong fashion statement. Ash also wears a Joseph suit,” reveals Falguni.
However, Ash’s character is not all about high end foreign brands. “To highlight the Indian-ness of the character, it was Ash’s idea to use a tulsi beads charms bracelet with silver charms. I have also designed some tunics with jeans and shirts for the look and in a few scenes, she sports a Pashmina shawl,” the designer emphasizes.
She further adds, “We have never seen Ash in this avatar before. This look depicts that a woman can be a powerful corporate and still not lose her feminine charms. It is a beautiful depiction of feminity and power dressing.”
