to be honest i think most students do it with financial support from their parents/families..
scholarships and govt grants help too...
and i guess part time work makes a difference if you can juggle it..

For people who study in a country other than your home country in how do you finance your education? (Particularly US citizens studying in the EU.) I've noticed that most schools want to be paid up front. Is it worth writing to companies to try and solicit donations? Any other means of creative money raising?

Usually federal aid if the school qualifies, grnats, scholarships and loans, and if possible, parents.

My cousins are international students. (From Asia and currently studying in the States). They weren't allowed any US federal aid (grants, loans, etc). So basically all of their studies needed to be paid by cash up front. (tuition is doubled for International students here). Not only that, they are only allowed to work on campus --- and US residents are given first priority to all the positions and anything left over will then be considered for an International student. (Unless you have connections). To sum, studying abroad is VERY expensive and you would need a positive cash flow.

have you thought about going on exchange for a semester or two, francofille?..
it's a potential solution...you get the experience of studying abroad without having to finance the entire 4 year degree..

Financing Fashion School or College - loans, grants, scholarships, savings, parents?

how many of you have taken out loans for college? or have you been saving up money?

cause im from sweden and school is free here so i havent been saving up money since i was little since i didnt know i was moving to the us back then.

I've been saving up money.. I worked full time last summer, and now work part time. I'll go back to working full time once school is done.
I'm also hoping for an entrance scholarship if I maintain my grades, as well as a few grants.
I will apply for OSAP (provincial loan), but I'm unsure how much money I will qualify to receive.
Once I'm in university, I would like to study 1 or 2 semesters abroad, and I know this can be quite expensive..!

Does anyone have any good information on financial aid, loans and scholarships?

I'm going to study fashion design in NYC in fall and I need $$$ basically.

Good question! I would love to know any info people have for good places to get loans outside of student loans.

^ There's also a website on how to get loans for everything (like having blue eyes.) I'll post some other good loan sites that are safe.

First try to see if you can get a parent to co sign a loan from the bank. If not, get a credit card or borrow money through your banks overdraft policy. Try to build credit and then you can get your own loans. A good place to start, the bank. If you quality for the FASA (I didn't) but most college's offer it and will give you an appt. when you apply or you can google it. Grants are good too, try applying for them.

Fastweb.com is a great site, my GC gave it to me my senior yr. of hs.

Ok, well they're basically something that the city (gov.) or a company gives out (like a scholarship but called a grant) they grant you the money instead of loaning it to you and they'll give you it for all the years mostly. I was given 1600.00 and they would send me a check in my name at the end of each semester.

The grant can basically be used for other stuff, not just school. (Like books, activities, your prada shoes (j/k.) A scholarship is to be used for just school tuition. Most businesses or organizations give out scholarships though and not the city or gov.

Go to grants.gov (make sure it has the gov after it, because it's legit.)
