how'd you get an internship with nylon and paper, do you think i still can apply?

i only applied to conde nast thinking i was going to get it because of my experience, but i didn't! and i ended up applying to a lot of designers in nyc(to work in pr, or buying) and haven't heard from them. i assume they are also filled up.

yeah go for it. i think nylon & paper are starting to look at resume's for the summer around now too. just check out their websites for who to contact.

i'll try contacting them asap.

is it possible to apply for magazine internships if you're not in school? i know most of them are unpaid and for college credit only.

i know this sound silly but i am interested in interning in a designer's office (dior is my goal) and i just don't know how to get my hands on it, do u just call them up and see if they want to accept ur portfolio, or u have to have some connection in order fo u to be accepted?

If you don't mind, could you tell me what kinds of experience/credentials you have? I am definetely not ready now, but would eventually like to do internships with fashion magazines like NYLON. It'd be very helpful if i can start building up my resumé with the right amount and types of experience.

For any London TFS'ers looking for work experiences with the top agencies, I reccomend calling them and asking directly. I've got two weeks work experience coming up with one of the top London agencies.
Has anyone done work experience at a modelling agency before?

^ Woww :woot: well done ^_^

Im in London to work with Foster+partners so I wont have time to do any more, but I might try next year, which agency will you be at? I might do a casting walk in with a little chat :p

I'm interning at Fusion Model Management this summer in NYC! I'm really excited. The agency isn't gigantic but I think, for someone who is just starting out, it will be good. I'm just glad to have a chance to see how things REALLY run behind the scenes and whatnot.

For those who are looking for that sort of thing, I also recommend just calling and asking. I had previous work experience of course, but nothing actually having to do with fashion, but everywhere I called was great. I interviewed at a bunch of places but in the end I thought Fusion would be best. So just go for it, and I'm sure something will work out!

Yeah, I did. I was in Vermont at school at the time when I started calling around to places and absolutely no one would conduct a phone interview, they all wanted me to show up in person, so I had to wait until I was back in NY.

did you have to go there to interview?
For one agency I went for an interview where she explained what I'll be doing when I work there and gave me a tour of the place, but for the other agency I didn't need one.

I agree with this.

I'm from Missouri and had loads of trouble finding anyone in NY, even a small unknown showroom, to do a phone interview.

I finally ended up just going to NY for one day to interview with a high-end design company. It sounds crazy, but I really wanted to intern there. Thankfully, I got it, but I honestly don't think I would go to NY if it wasn't a really great opportunity that would undoubtedly give you an extra edge when put on your resume.

i just finished my intern/co-op with Urban Behavior design department, and they hired me back in the summer to work on technical illustrations and other design works.

gosh...i need a part time job when i go to london

Theory

I'm interning in NYC this summer for Theory and it has been a great experience thus far. Theory is a great company in general and they train their interns very well.

I just moved a post by Manuva, about a company needing volunteer help in London, to a more applicable thread ... the Networking thread in this forum.

See her post and several others about interning opportunities in this thread.
