Anyone ever notice how extra normal these models are
I mean I think that the whole concept is pretty interesting what with having models that have nicely toned bare bodies but a not so typical model face..I mean they are not brown baggers:ninja: but I wonder what other jobs these models have had or if they have had any...might AA be a spot to try for ones first modeling gig:rolleyes: What'd you guys think? Worthy?

american apparel asks people off the street or employees to model for them. they do not use real models

I figured this much..but what do you think about the concept of this street rat, inexperienced model type...coolB) or un?

Depends, they are not so much a fashion brand but more of a producer of basics. They dont evolve with fashion, they keep with what never changes. Underwear, hoodies, plain shirts and jackets dont change much so they dont need to spend large amounts on advertising or models. They are a very "hip" company so for them to have over styled and overproduced with models and big photographers would brand them as "trying too hard" towards their target group. As a concept, the inexperienced girl and employee from the company or on the street works perfectly for their target groups and clothing. Can you imagine Gemma adveritsing for them? Just woudlnt work.

:flower:

Oh my goodness so true...good marketing on their part then I guess.

They actually have an address on their website asking people who want to model for them to submit their pictures, and I'm considering it. I'm such a chicken though, I said I'd submit my pictures to agencies like, a year ago, and it still hasn't happened ...

the other thing about american apparel models is that like ybf said the company prides itself on being vertically integrated so the ads/pics are probably shot in their warehouse--i think it says so on their website, and it definitely cuts costs for them

Oh my gosh Lola they probably would love your pictures especially if you look alittle athletic and normal! I don't think that they are really considered an agency either which means that they are hiring based on a need for numbers ...give it a shot! What can you loose?

here are some of the girl ads......i quite like them actually, different from the other not high fashion stuff

I think the concept's cool... but some of the photos I simply do not like... so I'm torn.

Some of the stuff is kind of trashy though. Reminds me of Sisely.

^ Trashy... I can see that...

I agree I like that the pictures are raw which appeals to their customers because it's not out of their reach (they can relate to the models..) but some of the "cheeky" pictures I'm not loving.... to me that's just trashy:yuk:

^ Agreed, Bonchic. Cheeky... that's a good word for a few of the photos.

I love the cheeky, trashy feeling of American Apparel ads and models. The funny thing is, take the same clothing (slash lack of clothing) and the same poses and put them on groomed high fashion models in a glossy magazine, and they would in fact be kind of bland. It's the low quality of them that makes them very "amateur-pornopgraphy"-esque, a bit like some of terry richardson's work, where you are sitting there feeling abit dirty, and even more dirty for liking them. Lovely and refreshing in a glossy world if you ask me ^^

I didn't know that! But it makes sense. Some of the models look a little...um not all there? lol, I don't know how to phrase it right. :innocent:
