The Department of Fiber Science & Apparel Design at Cornell University is a small but very active department. The major is unique in the Ivy League, combining a strong liberal arts foundation with excellent training in apparel and textiles. It attracts top faculty and students.
The emphasis on apparel design and textiles as products and processes with meaning is one of the strengths of the department. Our multidisciplinary approach combines design, art, biology, chemistry, engineering and social science concepts and methods. The department faculty seek to educate students about these topics with the long term goal of effecting change in design, in materials, in people’s health and well being, in manufacturing, in economic vitality, and in the environment. We offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees in design, textiles, fibers and apparel.
