APC Jeans

How does APC fit overall? Should I get a couple of sizes smaller than I normally wear or does it depend on the piece (shirt, jeans, jacket, etc). Thanks for posting the website... :flower:
Depends on the piece. Their jeans in particular (as I've posted) vary greatly. I waver from smalls to mediums in their sizes.

Thanks for the recommendation, Soft, but I had a bad experience with Luigi :( - I used to use him/them really frequently then when I didn't have any alterations for a while, he accused me of going to another tailor, like a jealous lover! It was a bit too stalker-ish for me! His work's okay, but after his emotional outburst, I'm not going back!
 ...that's hilarious..!!!

Has anyone been to the APC stores in Paris and can help me with a few questions?

Whats the surplus store like, does it have a good range, and what are the prices like?

Thanks

I've just been looking at a few more raw denim brands. I really like the look of all the pictures of worn in nudies ( www.nudiejeans.com ). Presumably the APCs will have a similar look after 6 months without washing, but I'm not sure that I trust the pictures on the nudie site, after all they're trying to sell the jeans, and they could've used all sorts of treatments to get a quick finish for the shoots. Does anyone have pictures of APC or similar raw denims that had about 6 months wear before washing? Baklan, you seemed to know about it, can you get me a picture of your APCs, or just tell me what the look is like after wear?

Actually, my APCs are still new. I was a recent convert because I had been using designer jeans that had been pre-worn (I only own Paul & Joe, GStar, Levis) and wanted a raw denim look very similar to Helmt lang's from the mid nineties - in other words, true blue. If it helps, I know about those nudie jeans having read about them a lot lately, but I don't care much for the pocket stitching. The nice thing about the APCs is that there is NO embroidery on them, and they really do shape themselves to you. I first took notice of APC jeans when a designer who works out at my gym was wearing them, and they fit him perfectly - fitted and hugging him all throughout the leg but a straight leg, and he confirmed my guess that they were APC. And that you had to wear them unwashed for months (or , ever) to get them to their shape. APC even includes a care guide that is wuite extreme, for keeping your jeans in the proper condition.

Coincidentally, I have a straight acquaintance who is an APC fiend, and I ran into him at the office yesterday. He confirms that they look amazing when they age well, although I haven't seen his - he was wearing the new APCs which I recognized outright, and he mentioned that he thought they were their best cut ever (the "New Standard" I think was the one he had on). He also mentioned that he learned a technique from a Japanese acquaintance, and he trusts the Japanese jeans obsession: he said that from time to time, you should starch your raw denim jeans and iron them, but without washing them. It maintains the dark indigo color but highlights the creases in a really natural way (as opposed to the prefabricated whiskering popular in jeans today) and the stiffness is maintained longer. I haven't seen his jeans, but I sort of trust his finickiness.

Hope that helps. If it helps any further, I haven't been obsessed about jeans since Seven first came out for men under the Paul & Joe label, back in 1999. And those coated straight-legs are STILL my favorite pair.

I realized I have to couch my response with my own position on jeans right now: I'm over all these artificially-aged washes, and if the fashion-forward flock in NYC are any indication, that's the trend. Seems we're all going back to dark denim as we all have multiple copies of those whiskered washes in our wardrobes already. I haven't considered buying any aged looks since 2003. And all the old jeans we already have, if you bought them properly to begin with, should be aging more naaturally as well. In fact, I've gone back to wearing my 501s from the early 90s, because I'm buying only slim or very narrow bootlegs from now on.

Ah, I thought you'd already had some experience with them, thanks for the help though, I guess I'll try a pair and see what happens.

I've also moved from looser fit to the slimmer cuts recently, I already have both pre-worn and dark blue jeans, but in cuts that I'm moving away from. I've more recently become aware of higher fashion brands, and particularly like the Dior Homme type look, it has the rock and roll style that I've always aimed for in whatever guise. I like the Dior jeans a lot, the range from raw, blue denim, as well as blacks and some quite extreme fades.

I will probably be looking at buying several pairs of slimmer jeans over the summer, not just dark blues, but some worn looks as well, and the nudies look a lot more natural once worn-in than anything else I've seen, if I could get something similar from APC that would be great, but if not I guess I'll have a great fitting pair of dark blue jeans anyway.

APC have several cuts, ranging from low rise , to medium, to 'regular' fits,, the range of which isn't apparent until you try them on. See which ones work out for you (if any) and let us know.

And by the way, they're supposedly opening an APC Surplus store in NYC too. I'll wait for the announcement, since I'm on their mailing list, but I'll post it here.

Well, I'm heading over to Paris on Tuesday, and I'll be back by Saturday to let you know what to expect if you do get a surplus store.

I'll be sure to try on all the jeans, and hopefully get a few shirts if I've got the money. I can always head back in a couple of months if the savings are worth it, its only 2 hours away from me by Eurostar.

Reporting back: It was not what I expected at all from a main store in the home country of an international, albeit small, fashion house. The main store was tucked away on a backstreet, with a few little cafes and local shops, it was one small room, about half the size of the grocers next door, not much stock either, only 3 pairs of jeans, and my rubbish french didn't help too much.

The surplus store was in the next street over, just among houses, it was slightly bigger, and had slightly more of each item, but a smaller range of items. Prices about 50% off, but unusual sizes mostly.

I tried the Workers and New Standards, New Standards fit great, but they only had bright red, which isn't my cup of tea, but I know my size so I can order some more confidently now. However, I've just checked my email and they seem to have a new cut, Tight jeans.

Anyway, some nice stuff, a few military jackets that they don't have on the website, I think from the previous winter collection, and I got to try enough that I have some more of idea what size I am, but mail order still seems to have more in stock.

Thanks for the report. FYI, The Tight Jeans are what's called The Cure at the store - same jeans, different name, don't know why. If it helps, the APC website for the US just released a worn-finish that I didn't see at the store, which is slim AND not so raw and rigid. Might be what you're looking for. I will check them out this weekend.

You just answered a couple questions I had posted to the mens denim thread. You're right about the fit of the slim style (cure:( mine fit me just like my dior homme 21 cm jeans did through the hip; they're just a little narrower through the leg with 19.5cm opening. They have the same nice low slung fit. I take a 32 in this season's dior, 31 in previous seasons, I take a size 33 in the apc cure which fit just like this seasons dior 32. Subsequently I've sold both pair of my dior jeans because just as happy with the apc.

Then you'll have no problem with APC. Believe you me, their inseams are looooong. Their slimmest style right now (in the raw denim) is called Cure, and when I wore it, it reminded me of the Dior Homme sstyle...but with a LOT more leftover leg. There must have been an inseam of about 40" with that one, or so it seemed.

That's great to hear! Glad I was able to steer you in the right direction. And since I can never get my size in Dior since it always runs out, I now know I can just stick to my much more affordable APCs! Thanks!:flower:

Just a question about the 'tight' APC jeans. By the look of the picture on the APC site, it looks like the denim is raw. Is this how it is, or is it just the picture?

It's raw. They have finished ones, but the ones I saw at the store and tried (and own) are raw.

Does anyone know what size I should get for the New Standards? I picked up my real size today but I asked the girl working if she knew what size I should get but she was clueless so I just picked them up anyway. But I'm a little concerned as these fit pretty well that they might be too big in the long run, should I exchange for a smaller size?

Yay, thanks!!

I'll get them when I find the money :P

mouko, did you find them in sf? i could never find a pair i liked in sf. azalea on hayes had some i think but they weren't the fit i wanted.

my boyfriend wears women's hipsters and loves them. he has worn the same raw denim pair for over a year and has only washed them like, 3 times..they are absolutely beautiful now. they fit him perfectly and have amazing wear-patterns...natural ones, from his body, and not those horrible kinds that you buy some new jeans with. i don't own a pair currently but the ones i have tried on have made me feel like a goddess, hee!

The pictures of the nudie jeans are adjusted contraste-wise on the computer. Some pictures of worn A.P.C. Jeans are on here: http://www.nurs.or.jp/~ourlem/text/denim_26.html ; They were worn for 7 years though.
