Balenciaga F/W 12.13 Paris

I really like everything up until and after those weird 80s graphic leather jackets. The dresses are very sleek. But those jackets. I don't even know what to think. All I can think is next season they will be on all the editors.

This is a nice enough collection, but it is missing his more innovative, bolder and experimental ideas with fabrics, materials, prints, collage, colours, etc....it must be the times!

i really don't see the tackiness that some people are talking about, actually i think it's a much safer collection of Nicolas.. certainly not like pre-fall which was more challenging and kinda questionable even though they do share an 80's vibe.

i agree with Zazie and disagree with fleurpoudre..

I just noticed that the prints are from the movie Liquid Sky! I knew pre-fall was inspired by the movie, so I'm not surprised Nicolas made it part of this collection.

The shoes remind me of what I see hipsters and scenesters in the city wearing who "Dress like their best friends and can't wear long and thin stilleto heels". I have tried to digest them but I still think they are one of the worst shoe collections he has ever done for Balenciaga.

YES!!! the shoes are awful...they look like the shoes hipsters wear b/c. they reject anything mainstream or "thin" and "stilleto" like...they honestly look like those Born shoes made for women 60 plus who need "comfort"....sooooo ugly!!!

The biggest problem with this collection is obviously the 80's veneer. Strip away the earrings, the hairstyle, the awful, awful shoes, and re-imagine the entire collection in solid greys, navys and blacks and you are actually left with some interesting clothes. I do however, hate the skirts and dresses with the curved hem cutting from waist to knee.

For example, though, these looks in particular are very strong as a garment alone:

What I mean to say is, is that there are actually quite a few pieces in this collection that are interesting and very well designed, but the whole collection and all the styling essentially proposes all these clothes as a costume. While no huge fan of the 80's myself, I did find the presentation and soundtrack extremely charming and tolerable as an interpretation of that decade. However, the leopards, the lames, the booties and thrift store heels and jewelry all cheapen a collection that would have looked 10 times better had the obvious styling been eliminated.

He just went too literal on the inspiration basically, he should have had this for his F/W 2009 collection instead and have that collection in F/W 2012. Jennifer Connelly would not approve...

too futuristic for my liking, I love the last 2 looks though.
