Bare Midriff S/S 09

It certainly can be done! I think the blogger at MILK (not sure of her name - http://imilk.blogg.se/) does it quite well here:

Though a general attitude of "Yeah, what of it?" or complete awareness of the 90s associations should definitely be kept it mind while attempting.

I'll be experimenting with this, definitely, Prada and Comme des Garcons style. I was too young when Britney Spears first came out with it and the masses enjoyed anyways!

for 6" tall beautiful stomach models orrrrrrrr for average people?

hard to become a trend.

not really sure about that blogger.. looks more like she's got that Selena (circa 1995) thing going on..

The bare midriff is a trend that I always liked. What I hated was the tight tops and increasingly low-rise (how could they call that "rise"?) jeans that accompanied the trend; that's what made it tacky. I really like the way it's being done on the runway, with fluid, slightly loose tailoring. It can look youthful, flirty, and even elegant on girls with slim, flat bellies. Sadly, I am not one of those girls, but I can get away with a sliver of skin just underneath my rib cage.

And sorry to be crass, but to whom it may concern, men LOVE bare midriffs.

^ I like the type you describe too. It really can be sexy and appropriate!

its a very 70s and 90s thing im sure this trend will explode in the next decade , I like this look with high waisted wide leg jeans/pants and high waist shorts and skater skirts . Im fed up of big tops

this trend looks best with high waisted bottoms rather than low rise ...

I never thought I would say this but Im actually loving this with a highwaisted whatever & a little bit of the upper tummy/rib area showing!

I think it is one of those trends where you have to experiment it carefully because it has a potential to look scandalous. But if you just show it just a little bit of it with cropped form-fitting long sleeves with a cute puff skirt or loose pants/shorts and a wear a jacket over it. I think it can look very chic.

Hmm.. I think only certain people can pull this trend off. I don't mind a little bit of stomach showing as Sienna Miller does in #77 but other than that I don't like the Britney Spears 90's mid-drift.

it's hard to say, i think it's make it or break it, some people will not be able to pull it off, but others, can. i think it's super cute from what i've seen, but not on all people.

I wanna see how I can work this out. I think I could do it with the right materials. I have a good body for it. You definitely need the right attitude though. Many of the examples with the loose shirts and high waists are very encouraging.

I was doing some browsing and this caught my eye:

Seems the trend has reached Alberta Ferretti, the designer of the most feminine clothing. Credit: style.com

Noo my favourite online store asos.com has hooked onto the trend
Im dissapointed in them..

I just dont like this style, it takes a certain figure to pull it off and im not looking forward to seeing the not right figured people wearing it .. if that makes sense!!

I really like this trend though only when the skin above the navel is showing and not too much of it. I quite like the way Jane from Sea of Shoes is doing that (sorry, I don't have a picture to post).
This is my attempt at the trend:

sorry for the crappy quality but you get the idea

I think it is really nice for spring and looks somehow avant garde-esque if you do it with a mid-calf length skirt or a long pencil skirt. As for the entire belly showing...I hate that, it never quite disapprared from the streets and I'd hate to see that trend return because on most people this really isn't flattering and just sl*tty looking.

I like that pink/black bra top lol. If it was worn with highwaisted trousers & a jacket... I think it could work. Or even with highwaisted jeans. I wish they shipped to the US.

They do?! Cool. I just assumed they didnt. Thanks. I wonder if it would be expensive shipping... I dont see where it says how much shipping would be.

Nooo. Major 90's relapse. If it catches on it's certainly something I will avoid like the plague.
