Boho is out, Beatnik is back

i don't think this will be as big as the boho trend, because beatnik is more of a fall/winter trend and it just seems that trends are bigger and catch on more in the spring/summer (like boho).

I don't like the way 'beatnik' or whatever can become a 'trend'. I mean, there are always people that dress like that, and they usually look really stylish. The whole process of 'beatnik' becoming a trend just means that Sienna Miller got a little less interesting. And thats about it.

i think that aesthetics should only be revived en masse in the case that the way of thinking that gave birth to them is revived en masse.

Idealistic, but I totally agree. The world is way too shallow for this ever to happen though.

I truly do believe boho is out. I'm not quite sure about the beatnik though. I agree about Marc Jacobs and his mod theme. And if you really think about it beatnik and mod run neck and neck. Especially when you think of women and how they want to feel when they get dressed. It's a bit too different.

I don't like it when stores do this. There's already this lack of individuality and they are helping its decline by saying "This is going to be HOT!" I say encourage ppl to express who they are, not all look alike.

Every time a "trend" pops up, I put what I have and what I buy away until it's all over. This time will be no different.

good post...

i think both these looks are classic and have a significant ammount of overlap... B)

i find it's best not to get too caught up in 'TRENDS' or one just winds up looking like a victim who can't dress themselves and needs someone else to tell them what to wear...
i say just be yourself...

As quoted from The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill cd "can give you a bullhorn and put you in the middle of time square" so you can say that to the world. I couldn't agree more!!!! Amen to that! :flower:

The thing interesting about trends is when "mainstream" takes on a certain trend, it never looks authentics...... The tacky fake boho girls will never look anything like a real boho (real boho is  ), a real boho will never be seen with cowboy boots or whatever weird accessory......

Once a certain trend is over, it is easy to notice those still hanging on to that style...... those are the "real", stylish at heart...

Following a trend is just "dumb", if you like it for a certain reason, OK, but just to be IN is seriously  .....

Real beatniks and bohos are obviously lovely though. Copies from Topshop are blatantly phony.

and all these trends (boho, beatnick, mod, etc.) are really drawing on a pretty narrow spectrum of interrelated histories. I mean Audrey Hepburn was beatnick in Funny Face, totally mod in How to Steal a Million. Sedgwick was beatishly mod in the Factory years and weirdly boho by the time of Ciao Manhattan. Isn't it that we admire stylish women who work a look (probably because all of us here both aspire to impeccable style and are ultimately quite stylish too!!!)

i totally agree with everything you say there :flower:

Yes! finally! I'm sick of it...was cute at first then I saw an old lady in my neighborhood with a gypsy skirt on:lol: I was over it! Now I have a few cute 'housecleaning' skirts to wear around the house...
I've always prefered the beatnik/mod look. I so looove black. Yayyyy

one has not to forget that only skinny people will be really able to carry it off, otherwise it looks a bit frumpy.....

***eeeek*** you're absolutely right! it could be embarrasing for a lot of people running around pretending they're skinny. hmmmm...which is why it's always best to dress to your type and not follow every trend.

I'm hoping the colors will tone down too (at least for my taste) Back to classics... All of this pink, pink, pink, white and  bright pink & green /everywhere/...too much!

exactly

i think they whole beatnik thing is obviously going to explode, everyone will eventually get bored with boho and that's what's next for them.

i personally dont mind any of those styles (?), i think they're nice when done in a subtle way..like everything i guess, i still wear necklaces and long skirts, not together but i think i've been dumped in the boho category because that's what they equal this season even though I've been wearing them every summer..and still will do every time we reach 30 degrees. :p

So is it all Dior this winter??? I think I kinda like it.

I feel kind of off saying this...but if it takes a trend for mini dresses and black and white stripes to come back so I can make some important purchases...then let it come and go...but let it come!
