Boho is out, Beatnik is back

i thought that was called mod fashion...

black and white?

well, i think the next trend would be

boho, minus the chocolate milkball necklaces and ridiculously huge bracelets

mixed with mod and beatnik

beatnik is usually the 'soft punk' (like leather jackets and black pants)

the pictures u have there, i would most likely say is mod fashion

I think this look will become big. Maybe not quite like boho, but big. And I would be inclined to say--not too bad of a look to be big. The downside? Unfortunately most trend slaves are gonna think it's just about black and white stripes. So that's what we'll be bombarded with. Instead of the spirit of the look.

Boho

What do you guys think? Is it still "in" or "out"? I know it was all that this summer and all, but is it still in style?

I think theres been too much boho (but not in my town... we have no bo-ho (hehe)) But I still like it :ninja:

I think to some extent it is. People here are just getting into the peasant skirt thing, but then again I live in Colorado people here tend to be late bloomers when it comes to fashion:P

still not sure what people here call boho..
but bit and pieces of bohemian styles (hippy/folk skirts, empire waist dresses etc)
are still around, inspired mainly from miumiu and burbury fw05.06 catwalks

merged this with an ongoing discussion

Hmm... idk.

We don't have any style what so ever in my town. We still haven't done the boho thing yet except for few people  (Including me, because... well, I love it)

But everywhere you look in Hollywood and all that it is boho, boho, boho.

I guess I don't have to worry about trends like that, then. Polos & mini skirts will live forever here  Unfortunatley.

But this look is starting to grow on me

I don't think this is it, but it is black and white and the Mickey Mouse ears made me laugh

Oh gaws -mod is like the basic London wardrobe and has been forever... if they rip it off, I hope they do it in a ladylike Audrey way, rather than rock n roll like my beloved Edie... Of course they will do it like Edie -she is going to be all over the magazines once that movie comes out. Grrrrrrr. I think minimalism is the trend that wont hit the streets for a while -of course you have to be loaded to be able to do minimalism in the winter

Boho Chic is turning into 60's Chic

Is Boho Chic turning into 60's Chic??
In all forms of fashion and style? Rock & Roll today reminds us all of a time when the Velvet Underground was still underground, Sienna Miller can't stop getting her pictures taken in all her Mod inspired garb and "Factory Girl" is the latest "it" film everyone is talking about....

Is boho getting more streamlined? Magazine Covers are poppping up everywhere with pictures that look like they were taken right out of 1968...Boho Chic Queen's Mary Kate and Ashley are wearing tight jeans, striped shirts, and little mod inspired coats.... and seem to be throwing out all their oversized boho chic rags...

Mark and Estel (known for their Boho Chic t-shirts that Mary Kate paraded around last winter) are now ending up on the cover of WWD as a look inspired by Edie Sedgewick of Warhol's Factory...

What do you think? Have you noticed this also...or is it just me?

Semper boho! Boho will never die it just gets re-interpreted to death in the mass market until boho is once again the new boho. True boho is the vanguard because that is the essence of boho: reactionary, restless, rebellious and rolling over the ancien regime at every opportunity.

What to wear then so as not to be mistaken for a tarted up cheerleader or victim with feet bound by Manolo Blahnik? How about some low-heeled suede boots and normal jeans- Bob Dylan cerca 1963, in other words, haut beatnik. What could be more boho than that? Add a sweater for the chilly farmhouse/studio/coffeehouse/loft or Provincetown morning. Don't forget your shades and a Ginsburg-esque djellaba for formal events or joyful and smoky moments with some friends. Even Mary Kate can't kill boho with her Balenciaga but I do know where she can find a size 4 original Marimekko suit from Design Research in Cambridge.

It won't be a plague like boho though. Not unless places like Abercrombie and American Eagle find some way to market it.

They'll find a way... but unlike the old boho it will be hard to manufacture in India where tons of stuff can be made for little money and be unleashed to flood the market with the excess of high hopes, sequins and rajahstani nomad skirts.

Isn't there a thread on this already? I wish the folksy, hippie mini-trend running for the last few years wasn't called boho because the term 'bohemian' is quite different. By the very meaning of the term, it just cannot be a mass trend. I sometimes wonder what the noughties style will be defined as in the future... Everyone knows that the 70s were disco, 80s were opulence, 90s were minimalism. It would be sad if the nougtiess were the excessive era where everyone ran out of ideas. I love mod but I remember liking long peasant skirts a long time ago and the mass market knocked that out of me...

What's strange is that I sensed a 70's comeback... Disco-inspired colors and clothing...

However, it seems that anymore, pieces are taken from past decades and recycled more to today's standards. It's not all just about one decade / era anymore... it's about bits and pieces from so many different times.

Right, that's why genuine boho can never die! Peasant skirts and all the other mass market "boho style" is really faux-ho. Rich hippies on holiday will always go native and wear whatever suits the mood and weather. But real bohemians will always be the vanguard and everyone else just wannabe bohemians. Bohemian sensibility cannot be bought!
