Such a stunning woman. I'm proud she's our First Lady. I wish she'd wear more exciting outfits but I think she keeps it low key otherwise the Frenc would be like "oh my god look at all the $$$ she spends on clothes!!!" -- for the record there were some dramas because Sarkozy wore Raybans Aviator sunglasses and was at a very expensive restaurant the day he was elected

What you are saying is absolutely untrue. She wears almost exclusively wears Chanel at official event and no one fault her. No one says anything bad about her except maybe that she is useless as a 1st lady and doesn't do anything (which is true). Sarkozy is a different matter altogether. The issue with French ppl was not his aviator, Rolex or the fact that he celebrated his election at the fouquet's. The problem was his attitude toward money and the way he flaunted it - which doesn't suit well with European culture, especially the French one that is all about understated.

1. She does wear designer clothes, but everything she wears is absolutely low-key, hence the absence of criticism. Everything is always in relatively discreet colours. She's always elegant but they're really not using her fashion potential. Moreover, I'm 100% positive that if we saw her at fashion shows or the likes (like David Cameron's wife), French people would go absolutely crazy saying that you can tell where her priorities are etc.

2. I'd suggest you do some researches before stating such things that are completely untrue. Let me help you: http://www.carlabrunisarkozy.org . With her fondation, she helps fighting illiteracy, she supports education and access to culture and arts. Not to mention all the AIDS-related work she does.

3. It is OBVIOUS that the problem was his attitude towards money, yet we got DOZENS of articles regarding a damn Rolex, the place Sarkozy went to after being elected, and where he spent his summer break (on a yacht). French people do have a problem when it comes to dealing with money and wealth in general.

^Agree! She is very low key, even if she has tons of money (inherited and earned) she remains very low key. Classy and very down to earth. But she´s very beautiful and that´s something quite difficult to forgive sometimes...

No one fault her for being beautiful and dressing well. At all. No one cares about her wardrobe as Americans care about the length of Michelle Obama top. Frankly French folks don't seem to have much problem with Carla Bruni.

Her biggest detractors only says that she slept around, went form socialist to conservative but there are never criticism about the way she dresses. In the contrary she provides a nice glamorous picture (and a bit of elegance to the whole couple)

As for her foundation, I know about it, I am French as well. And to be fair, good for her right, doesn't mean that she does a lot with it. She did something in Africa if I recall correctly and then something in Italy related to it. She barely goes with Sarkozy on international trip, she does close to nothing at the Élysées palace (she doesn't even live there). I really don't mind to be honest, I was just pointed out that her beauty and glamorous image was rarely the issue for ppl who were not rooting for her husband.

In all fairness she is 20 years younger than the previous 1st lady and in 2 years (or maybe more) she was barely seen - If we don't count the whole promo for her album and the G20. As a 1st lady I like the like of Cecilia (sarkozy ex wife) or Michelle better. She chose te Cameron route. I see no issue with that but it's unfair to say that she is criticised because she is elegant and beautiful.

You didn't read my comment correctly. I never said she was criticized, I sayd she WOULD BE criticized is she took part in some "frivolous" activities like Samantha Cameron sometimes did. I also mentioned that she WOULD BE criticized if her, let's call it fashion potential, was more used. I don't recall seeing her in a fantastic couture dress etc. Like I said, I don't think French people would really like if she was a bit more "exhuberant" fashion-wise.

Moreover, just because she doesn't get media coverage regarding her charity work doesn't mean she doesn't do any. Just look at the "news" section of her website.

Lastly, I find it quite, hmmmm, surprising that you said you liked Cécilia more than Carla considering she [Cécilia] only stayed less than 5 months at the Elysée Palace and obviously barely did anything.
