to go along with slouchy hats...
i'm seeing a lot of berets...

i am not seeing most of what's been listed...
except maybe plaid/tartan...and the lips...

what i am seeing...

-a refined continuation of the neo-goth look...
*wednesday adams grows up and moves to the english countryside...

-empire/raised waistlines...aka baby doll/tulip dresses

-elegant romantic looks...(and all that this entails)
*lace, chiffon, velvet, bows, puff sleeves, capelets...etc...

-TONS of black black black...grey flannel and grey knits

-white shirts...

-ankle boots and platforms...

-leather trim and apparel...
*seems like the beginning of a new, harder-edged trend...

-skirts/dresses with pockets-EVERYWHERE!!

-and lots of waist/hip treatments
ie-tied panels, fold over waists, large pleats, peplums etc...
seems like america is trying to hide their growing waistlines...
^_^...could be an aftermath of the recent baby boom...

**seems like a lot of collections pick up from where stefano pilati left off at YSL last season...
that collection sold phenomenally well at retail, and it seems like everyone is trying to get a piece of that action...
which i guess is ok with me cause i love that look...
:flower:

***overall...
i am seeing a strong urban woman at ease with her femininity and confident in her sexuality...

so far so good...

^ Hmm ... can you give some examples of Wednesday Addams in the English countryside? I'm seeing a lot of pretty straight English looks, don't recall any with a gothic twist. I've seen a few skulls scattered around, but that's about it ...

yeah...but remember...
what i call gothic has nothing to do with skulls...
it's a 'mood'...
it's that darkly romantic vibe...
prim and proper...with a darker edge...

lots of boots, etc...

all the stuff i have listed above...

^ i agree
i just personally hope that with this look and the ever deepening shades of lipstick that the early nineties trends, lipstick wise, will not come back!

^ i agree
i just hope that with the ever deepening shades of lipstick combined with this trend which seems to have staying power - that early 90's shades of lipstick ic deep purple etc (euch) will NOT come back!

Exactly what I was going to say.

Though I am much more partial to the slouchy hat than I am to the beret...there were lots of berets I felt.

I was happy to still see sailor inspired pants - my favorite being Trovata's...
I also saw some reconstructed "overall" type pieces, retro inspired I guess...one particular pair on Stam...Marc by Marc I think...I liked.

The ankle booties I dig, and for all you torontonians, I found the greatest pair this summer at 69 vintage, that I will love forever...

Oh, and just to add - is it just me, or was there quite a bit of 'biker' inspired leather so far? Sinha Stanic had a leather-like dress, Prouenza Schouler's leather jackets, Michael Kors...

5 X 10

The New York shows are over, and the muted mood of fall 2006 has begun to emerge: dark, stormy colors, big sweaters, and a scattering of blasts from the eighties past. From leggings and booties to a little velvet dress, here’s what you need to know about the shape of things to come.

1. Your Leggings Are No Longer for the Gym. It’s a lean season for the bottom half. Zac Posen and Ralph Lauren were among the many who championed the stovepipe trouser. For the brave of backside, Thakoon’s plain black legging with a shrunken pea is as modern as it gets. For the rest of us, they’re handy when it comes to layering. (And it frequently does this season, too.)

2. You’ll Cuddle Up in Roomy Knits. Every so often, designers really do keep comfort in mind. When the blizzard of ’07 arrives, you’ll have plenty of sweaterdresses to choose from: Derek Lam’s is roomy in black and white, while Karl Lagerfeld’s is slinkier, with peekaboo cutouts all along its sides. And Zero Maria Cornejo belted a white sweater-coat for a sleeker silhouette.

3. You’ll Go Into a Cocoon. Balenciaga (Cristóbal, that is) must have been on everyone’s mind because the great designer’s elegant signature cocoons showed up on everything from a Marc Jacobs jacket to a brocade skirt by Vera Wang. It’s a more flattering volume than previous seasons, when far fuller experiments dominated the runway. Next fall, restraint will rule.

4. You’ll Blow Off Your Blow-out. Because hats are big, big news. Floppy chapeaus were paired with evening dresses (Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs), tidy berets added a clichéd yet effective Parisian charm to just about everything at Thakoon, and Vera Wang’s velvet toppers evoked the androgynous chic of Romeo Gigli.

5. You’ll Go Mad for Plaid. Really! The glamorous cut of Marc Jacobs’s wrap coat kept it from looking like a uniform, and Ralph Lauren made tartan sexy for evening. Behnaz Sarafpour managed a nostalgic look with a grown-up flair. Oscar de la Renta’s shift dress is decidedly unfussy: exactly what his well-heeled clients like for lunch at La Goulue.

6. You’ll Show Off Your Ankles. An eighties undercurrent ran through the week, with zippers here and (see No. 1) leggings there. But no body part was as eighties as the feet, which were done up in sassy booties with a dangerous heel again and again. Thakoon touched up his version with a perforated leather that looked like lace, and Donna Karan added hardware for a tougher edge.

7. You’ll Get to Know the Lippi Cat. Whether or not you’ve heard of this Chinese animal, you’re about to cop its spots. It looks rich and adult on coats at Oscar de la Renta and Tuleh and far cooler on a grungy Marc Jacobs dress or as a clash-happy layer at Anna Sui. Whichever way you wear it, lippi is a new and surprisingly versatile neutral.

8. You’ll Wear Color Rarely, But Boldly. Derek Lam said his collection is “about New York at night, racing through Times Square and catching flashes of color.” The same could be said for the season as a whole, which was on the dour side but dotted with rich splashes of brilliance: crimson at Carolina and Calvin, plum at Donna Karan, royal blue from Vera Wang.

9. You’ll Find a Velvet Gold Mine. There were piles of velvet, shown every which way. Proenza Schouler’s sleek, crushed-velvet minidress is exceptionally sharp. Sari Gueron used the plush fabric for a laid-back, embellished tunic, and Behnaz Sarafpour channeled velvet’s princessy roots, with a pouf skirt and a petticoat.

10. Your New Black Is a Sheer Black. This season, elegant evening equals one thing: tulle. Light, sheer, black nettings dust over the neck at Michael Kors, down the sleeves at De la Renta, and billow light as a shadow off a long draped skirt at Calvin Klein.

short skirt or dress with black leggings
ankle boots
layering(tank top, light sweater, chunky scarf?)
edit---
also black and white stripes!! pretty

this is so weird, most of these 'trends' I've already been doing this season. i hate it when things I wear and like become trends, it happens so often and it's really freaking me out! :b

eveningwear trends

what are the fabric and color trends for f/w 2006 eveningwear?

TIA

plaids and tartans are all over the place this season....i think that the designers must have been reading American Vogue because in one of the nostalgia stories a woman talks about living in Scotland and seeing all these sexy French and Italian women buy all of those classic prints

My thoughts after seeing all the shows so far (this will probably change soon):
  • Not much "screaming" colors
  • Green (mostly) leather accessorie, also lots of green in clothes but more softer and darker shades
  • Yellow, seems to be the "chosen" color in many collections
  • 20's/30's siluette (which I love) I got the feeling while watching the Michael Kors and Prada collection
  • the sweaterdress (oversized sweater that looks like a dress)
  • White, more creamy tones
  • short dresses with knitted tights
  • Tights but not sheer ones more covered have been featured a lot, footless, kneehigh, without and toe as long as you cover your legs
  • a little bit of the schoolgirl look that Marc Jacobs did in SS06
  • Plaid
  • Big Bags meant to be carried with your hand and not arm
  • Chains, lots of them everywhere, as belts, necklaces, on your bag
  • Lots of layering
  • the more relaxed look
  • the old man pants (see picture 1 & 2 from Marni /elle.com)
  • the Catsuit (see picture 3 Prada /elle.com)
  • Furdetails, like the pockets seen in prada or the bits and pieces on different items in Marni
  • Short jackets
  • Ankle boots
