Why did Phillo get replaced. Fill me in :flower::lol:

If you'll do a search, you'll find all the history. The company was unwilling to be flexible with her, and she thought her real life was more important. (Good for her!!)

As for Paulo, I think he's good, but his style has nothing to do with Chloe. I'm glad to see this change ...

I'm glad management realized that PM was not a match and didn't drag this out...this is very encouraging news.

you know who needs to go is frida...:innocent:

Indeed. I really don't know what's keeping her there; it's sad to think such un-Gucci collections sell well.

I'm glad they've got a new Chloe designer though; when I think of Chloe, I think of pretty, soft, and wearable. The last few collections have been too unwearably progressive.

i agree meg. i think because phoebe kind of left things unfinished for them especially with regards to the consistent profit turns, they didn't want a new identity, they wanted to continue on the same path. it's pretty sad and incredibly rude, indeed, but really did anyone truly believe he wasn't a mere filler till they did find somebody new?

Sad news imo. And considering that Pseudo-Philo collection he just showed, it is a little bit of a surprise.

As others have pointed out, the only possible reason is because management wanted to keep Chloe as it was, and Paulo clearly had something else to say. It's a shame though, I mean, for a high end Parisian fashion house to want to keep creating the same thing, it kind of takes away from all of the prestige when all you see is printed chiffon ruffles and trapeze lines season after season.

TBH though, I haven't really loved Chloe since McCartney left...less vintagey, more attitude.

I think Chloe wasn't a good fit for *him*. I hope he'll do much better in a place where he can let his own aesthetic shine. :flower:

well if a designer is on team philo, that means your going to be making wearable clothes , which im all for. Is she a british designer , the new creative designer , im curious?? Somehow british female designers work well with Chloe because they have an urban punky edginess yet that undercurrent love of Biba and the synthesis of the two , you get some interesting results.

I have to be honest and admit I really didn't see this coming

Chloe is such a mess

Paulo Melim Andersson out; Hannah MacGibbon tapped for role
Monday, March 10, 2008
(PARIS) Paulo Melim Andersson at Chloé: call it the three-collection curse.
Ralph Toledano, chairman and chief executive officer of Chloé, today announced the appointment of 38-year-old Hannah MacGibbon as the brand's creative director, effective immediately. MacGibbon, who will make her debut at Paris Fashion Week in October, has held the position of Chloé chief designer since Oct. 2006. In a season seemingly saturated with runway debuts and a shuffling of names--Valentino, Loewe, Ungaro, and Halston are just a few brands that come to mind--Melim Andersson joins a club that includes Patrick Robinson, the former Paco Rabanne designer, and Peter Dundas at Ungaro, both of whom showed three seasons before calling it quits.
"Paulo is a truly talented designer and we would like to thank him for his contribution to the house," Toledano said in a statement. "I am totally confident that he will have a very successful career." The 35-year-old Swede, who replaced Phoebe Philo after she resigned in January 2005, joined Chloé in Oct. 2005 from Marni, where he served as design director. His first collection, shown in Paris in March 2007, received mixed reviews, as have his two subsequent runway shows. The biggest gripe was that Melim Andersson seemed unable to capture the heart of what is Chloé's French soul.
A five-year veteran of the famed French house, MacGibbon worked at Chloé from 2001 to 2006. Philo hired her after announcing plans to travel and work in between studios in Paris and London, the latter of which she called home. To support her move, she brought in two Englishwomen, MacGibbon and Blue Farrier, both Central Saint Martins graduates. A key member of the design team, MacGibbon was instrumental in generating the hip femininity that made the brand a worldwide success and catapulted it into the big leagues. Most recently, MacGibbon consulted for the brand as creative director for the development and launch of the new Chloé fragrance. Prior to joining Chloé, she was the assistant director to Valentino Garavani in Rome.
"Hannah has been an integral part of our company for many years and we look forward to the overall creative vision she will bring to the growing world of Chloé," Toledano commented.

Agreed...although I kind of liked what he did. I wouldn't be surprised if he started his own line in the next few years.
I hope he does. He is very talented. It would be great to see what he can do on his own.

PAM is a great designer , Chloe isnt his style , he will be much better of with a minimalistic style brand where he can express his aesthetic without conforming which he had to do this fall , with mixed results. Well I think the new woman at chloe will be great ,she helped design the majority of the fall 2005 collection , when Phoebe took leave because she was pregnant ,

Well I personally dont really care, anything is better than him at this point. He was prety cool for about 5 minutes then things just got repetitive.

it's pretty sad that he is leaving... yet quite happy to see this new designer's work!! she is coming from valentino, which is good... and she is somewhat responsible for the chloe success during the philo era...
i jsut hope this twice mentioned femininity she is known for doesnt turn into a baby-doll parade (which is what i can remember phoebe for during so many years... i liked it then, but i was starting to like the tougher look of PM...

¡¡¡so many changes this year!!! i remember carine roitfeld talking about the year to come as a year with lots of changes... she very well said that just a couple of houses changing creative directors could make the whole industry change!! and i happen to find change very exciting when it comes to fashion!!

Well, to me, the new Chloe under Paulo was for a *completely different woman* than Chloe under Phoebe. And isn't that a problem? If you're going to completely alienate your entire existing customer base, you'd better be pretty d*mn good, right?

I see something similar happening at Valentino, altho Alessandra is drawing on the early archives, it's a completely different look. However, I own some Valentino accessories and I find her stuff somewhat appealing, so it's (perhaps) not as radical a change as Chloe ...

I'm not going to lie and say I'm not happy about this cause I have not liked anything he has done for Chloe but overall it is sad.

I was suprised that I liked his AW08/09 collections. It was in the spirit of "old" Chloe but I'm excited to see what Hannah MacGibbon will do.

Re Frida. She's not going anywhere. She makes them money and that's all that matters unfortunately :(

Even if i liked his last collection a bit more than the summer collection i still missed the style of Chloe. So let´s hope for a better time for Chloe.

Hopefully he'll start his own line or get hired somewhere else.

^ yes.

i love paolo melim andersson, but i agree that he wasn't a good fit for chloe. pheobe built up a certain aesthetic for chloe that became so recognizable and paolo doesn't really fit with that aesthetic. i do hope he starts his own line though, i love his work.

I'm disappointed in the Chloe house for not having given him more of a chance, but at the same time I'm glad because it means Paulo can go out and work on his own uncompromised vision. He is a very talented designer who has impressed me incredibly, and I am eager to see what he will do next... until then, I will miss him!!
