BUT: he hit Rihanna who (whether you like her or not) is very famous and loved by many fans. The other celebs who had issues like that didn't mess with OTHER, even more famous celebs. She is, i would say, even the bigger star. so, i guess, his further career also depends on how she will react.

I honestly think that's the biggest factor in the "Can he rebound, career-wise?" issue. Another, as already mentioned, is Chris' image as a clean-cut crooner (he was on Sesame Street!) and his target audience being young girls. Even non-thuggish rappers can simply get away with it because that goes along with their image.

Sadly, if the victim was a non-celeb it would much easier to sweep under the rug. Way more people would be willing to believe that it may not have happened and would question what she did to deserve it even more so then now. Even reading some of the comments on ontd and assumptions that Rihanna must have attacked him is fairly disheartening. (I'm not even going to touch Bossip with this story, I was pretty sick over the excuses re: Jennifer Hudson's family tragedy.)

A comeback will happen, that I can be sure of. People will eventually tire of hearing about the scandal and "forget" when he comes out with a chart-topping song.

I don't think Oprah will solve this problem or will want to, if anything she will want to have Rihanna on. I don't think her audience of women is going to have much sympathy for him saying he was provoked to hit her.

Yes his silence is making things worse but really he has no choice. He f*cked up and in criminal cases like this its best not to talk. He can't admit anything because his lawyer is trying to get a deal.

Finally, Chris Brown has just issued an official statement through his spokesperson concerning the assault situation with Rihanna . This is indeed a real statement and not a hoax like others have been posting from fraudulent Facebook/Myspace pages. The statement was issued directly to media outlets from his PR reps at Sitrick And Company, Inc. It reads in its entirety:

“Words cannot begin to express how sorry and saddened I am over what transpired. I am seeking the counseling of my pastor, my mother and other loved ones and I am committed, with God’s help, to emerging a better person. Much of what has been speculated or reported on blogs and/or reported in the media is wrong. While I would like to be able to talk about this more, until the legal issues are resolved, this is all I can say except that I have not written any messages or made any posts to Facebook, on blogs or any place else. Those posts or writings under my name are frauds.”

i really hope he does get the help he needs. no matter if he beat rihanna or any other girl or person, it's very sad to hear that such a young and successful singer did this. i hope he can take care of whatever caused him to do this and i hope rihanna's doing okay as well.
