CLASS OF 2006 - Fresh models for the new year

Wow this is so cool! I love it.
There are some gorgeous faces in there.

What is this, Village of the Damned? I've never seen such a bland and characterless array of individuals! Actually, 'individuals' implies that any of these soy milk-weaned dullards is actually possessed of a single distinguishing feature. It's been said that change is the only constant in fashion, so hopefully catwalk trend will leap so far ahead of itself that the Vogue shoot will serve as a goodbye wave rather than a hello. But I imagine that it will sadly not be. Given that the fashion industry has spent the last ten years dedicating itself to the increasing foetalisation of all humankind (to the point where we now call Coldplay's Chris Martin a 'hunk'), these wide eyed, mealy mouthed kindergarteners probably ARE the wave of the future. God help us all.

Oh, heck... I've just noticed that Mr. Roversi shot these images. Explains why the colours are beautiful, but this is the man who first advertised the eerie majesty of Guinevere Van Seenus to the world. Now he is forced to focus his lens on a bunch of pups who, in my humble opinion possess not a sliver of her self awareness. Sorry to complain (and this is an OLD argument), but I've give anything to see someone with a real woman's character and presence on a magazine page again...

I like it. It's very original. The clothes look young and spring, which kinda goes against the matronly-ness of the collection this season. They also fit the concept of the shoot.

And as for the "kids" looking ten years younger than they actually are, I have two solutions: time and a daily supply of Big Macs. Tyra Banks didn't buy that body.

Is there possibly a larger version of post #1?? It's just such a cool editorial! :D

thanks, Elle

Do you want larger versions of ALL the pics? Or just of the first two pages with all the pics lined up in yearbook fashion?

Well I'm so flattered you love the pictures . It's just a cute little editorial, nothing to take seriously. Were you there at the shoot? What gives you the right to qualify them as kindergartners with "not a sliver of self awareness". Models just do what they ask of them at the shoot . Have you even met Mr. Roversi himself? If you don't like it... buy a different magazine :innocent:

Who did they miss Sean and why is it so dumb? Drama queen :D:heart:

Meredith looks like a porcelain doll, cutie pie.
Felicity is amazing, she should've played that French girl in Harry Potter :ninja:

I'm miffed Sophie doesn't have a full page

ok don't hate me but i don't really like Felicity. I saw her pics on o2w and i think she looks like another characte from Harry Potter...maybe Lord Voldermort? :innocent:

Cool down, Vedis! I thought I was angry...

:o You have a point; I'd like to be taken as I am found, and for that I should do the same for others. But... surely we have to assess images in terms of what the models represent, not who the models actually are once the cameras stop rolling. And my problem is not that Vogue styled this shoot in the manner of an old school yearbook, but that childish visages and mannerisms seem to be the single relentless rule in fashion imagery right now.

Between Kate Moss's Obssession campaign and the appearance of a thirteen year old Rachael Kirby on the Vivienne Westwood catwalk, the use of real youngsters was playful and sometimes edgy, but the entire impact depended on those girls standing out because of their youth. The sixties would have been a heck of a lot less interesting if the world was presented with an army of Twiggies. Now, extreme youth is all we've got, and that sense of context has been lost. The teenage models on this shoot may have been funny, smart, even a little scary in their intelligence and worldly knowledge, but by God, we were never allowed to see it.

What bores me to the point of infuriation  is that intelligence and self knowledge, not only sexy but useful qualities are being censored from fashion advertising year by year. The models in so many campaigns are wearing less clothes than ever, and yet they appear less and less interesting. Do you think it's coincidence that models no longer qualify as 'celebrities' to the public when fifteen years ago they really were bigger than movie stars?

The eyes, it's said, are the windows of the soul. And looking at this shoot, I almost wonder if the models have been told to clear their thoughts and try to represent nothing. It's not only uninteresting, it's inaccurate. Schoolkids are boundless in their energy, inquisitiveness and sense of mischief. If youth is what fashion is trying to represent (as it so often says it is), then why do they look as though they're waiting around to die?

^^ Yes! I love that. I'm glad the glam supermodels era is past tense.

Ok Moroder I'm not really posting these images again to piss you off since the concept of the photoshoot disgusts you so... this is just a pic enlargement request from Vedis.

By the way, Moroder, what do you propose as an alternative? It seems there is a lot of theory there that sounds all very nice and well but if Vogue were to present the new generation of models, what would be your ideal concept? I'm not challenging your argument...just curious to know your thoughts.

Here you are. Just click on the thumbnails:

i agree with this to a certain extent. and perlefine, there was something between the glam-party-aura of the super model era and what we have now i think. being sure that the representation of beauty via fashion says something about our current state of mind (or that of the western world) i have often been asking myself what this complete emptiness that we see in modern models like gemma ward might mean. i think it's true that they are told to look as if not a single thought had ever crossed their mind. but why is that so appealing?

Could someone post a picture that you think reflects some of the thought that is going through the model's head? To be honest, I think I've accidentaly just accepted this kind of empty gaze. I'm no longer searching for a model with evident emotion/intelligence/whatever it is, but merely an interesting face :ninja:. Although looking back, the models that I like most can't really be placed in the last category [Kim Noorda, Sophie, Marina Perez, Irina Lazareanu].

I think the main goal of this shoot was just a clear overview of fresh faces. Nothing more, nothing less.

^Agreed.....I think there was a little too much over-analysis and scrutinisation going on above. :innocent:

 and i was just hoping someone would shed light on a subject that's been making me ponder:p

i do like the shoot as i said before and thanks for posting, susie.

I'm psyched that they used Julia Välimäki, even though it's not a great picture of her. What agency is Irina Zender with? There's literally nothing about her on the internet.
