Daily Exercise

Today was weird, in that it was my first ever calorie centric workout. I didn't keep tabs on the number of minutes for which I worked out. Anyway.

500 calories on the tread mill
200 calories on the cycle
700 calories on the elliptical
About 30 mins of free weights, stretches and abs.

It was odd. I think I'm going to revert to my minute-centric workout, where I work out for a specified number of minutes on everything.

Yet another calorie-centric workout. I was hard-pressed for time, and knew I couldn't follow my usual minute-based workout regime.

600 calories on the elliptical
200 calories on the cycle
200 calories on the tread mill.

Took me little over an hour. Tomorrow is a holiday, so I'm going for evert back to my old routine.

Do you think it works better counting calories or minutes? Is there a plan to follow or?

I suppose it varies from person to person. If one is the sort who counts calories with regard to what one consumes, then I guess counting calories when one works out makes sense. I can't be arsed to guess or enquire how many calories I'm consuming every time I scoff down a gateau or something equally unhealthy, so I don't see the point of a calorie based workout. If I binge eat on any particular day - and I have to admit, it happens far too often for my liking - I work out for about 30-40 additional minutes.

I've always counted minutes, and am finding it very odd to count calories. It's like I have to keep checking how many calories I've burnt every 5 minutes. :ninja: Very distracting. But some at my gym only ever count calories, and they tell me they can't wrap their heads around the idea of working out without actually knowing how much they've burnt. But I can see where they're coming from, because when one keeps an eye on the number of calories one is burning, it sort of puts a quantitative construction on their workout.

I think it's quite interesting actually! I never pay attention to how many calories I'm burning/I've burned as I don't think the cardio machines at the gym are accurate at all...

Was cutting it really fine for work today, so could only squeeze in an hour at the gym.

35 mins on the tread mill
30 mins on the elliptical

13 mile bike ride - I track calories, but mostly so I can get the most out of my workouts. I gravitate towards the exercise that will get me the most bang for my buck.
