Daniel Lee - Designer, Creative Director of Burberry

Seriously, this brand is doomed if everything they have to offer is that classic ugly check print. I don’t mind it on the inside of my coat, as an updated version like the various colors Lee tried but if this is the future of Burberry, they don’t need a CD. They can do everything internally, hire a bunch of ambassadors, send gifts to influencers.
I would hate to be a designer in that environment. Clearly, they don’t need Lee if he is just following the vision of the CEO and merchandiser!

It's been 3 years since his official appointment and he has not yet released a decent bag or shoe. How can you sustain / increment sales in this business without releasing desirable entry level aspirational items? His Bottega accessories are still pretty much coveted: the Jodie, the supple leather pouch, the chain Cassette, the tire boots.
The pricing is totally off for a C-list brand, 1350 bucks for a plastic check pattern Speedy when with 200 bucks more you can get the original from LOUIS VUITTON, the most renown brand in the world alongside CHANEL and Hermes.

He designed great bags (personally I love them). They are maybe too casual for my lifestyle or can serve as travel bags but they are great.
Nevertheless, they are above 1700€/£/$. Nobody is spending that kind of money on Burberry.

His tenure is doomed. At this point all his stuff will end up in outlets because nothing is pushed.

The man isn't even 40 yet and I feel like he might just vanish into thin air after this. I'm desperately hoping that his tenure at Burberry hasn't downright destroyed his career.

That is the main problem with his burberry and their new pricing. They are very well made "luxury" casual clothes. So its difficult to justify the price points. If he elevated his shows and maybe made it more evening wear focused it would have stood a chance with this new luxury burberry.

Either way, I’m not sure with this price point the « luxurious Burberry » would work either.

For me, his vision for Burberry is clever. A casual well made everyday bag because that’s the promise of Burberry. Either way, at those prices, you can have a Saint Laurent bag.
They didn’t neither expand his line.
I bought the shoes from SS2014 and I love them. But giving the development of his Burberry, I may just wait for it to go to the outlet. I’m curious to see what his Prefall and FW will look like now.

All he needs is the support of the right people. Clearly he still has relationship with Phoebe who can open a door at LVMH for him (even more considering that he knows the machine) and if he has good relationships with Anna, he can still bounce back. The JS rumor is there for a reason…

You liked the scrotum bag ????

I don’t know which one is it but I like the Knight in all it versions. I’m less convinced by the rocking horse because of it lock but overall, and I know it’s an unpopular opinion, I like his work at Burberry.
I actually prefer his Burberry to his BV to some extend. I think the clothes are BV were fabulous but the accessories and that awful green were a miss.
At Burberry his clothes are good, his accessories are good but everything around is a mess.

The Chess bag, especially in beige, and there was even a furrier version. I stop caring about Burberry after that.

Whoever thought this would have turned into an IT bag...you're either naive or just plain dumb

Oh no, not my favorite at all. Funny looking but could have been more subtle in the bottom part.

I like Moncler.... They have real fashion credibility. My first Moncler piece was by Junya Watanabe...still have it somewhere, I retired it over a decade ago. I only wear moncler puffers when I do need a puffer. Canada Goose is not fashionable to me.

Burberry is not a big enough label for these clothes. The label matters... if these were Dior it would be more desirable. Burberry doesnt have enough fashion credibility to push anything. The clothes are fabulous for the most part and I have considered some pieces ...but Burberry only has the credibility to make classic standards IMO and Id rather buy Celine...

Burberry at Costco isnt a big deal. The Costco here in Lantana, FL has a variety of LV luggage available.

If the Shield Bag and the Knight Bag were each around $1,000 then they'd have been a sure hit. Same for those Canvas Totes priced at like $1,400.

They'd be competing directly with The Row Banana Bag and the Lemaire Croissant Bags but at a much better price point than the former. People want well-made leather goods in the $600 - $1,500 price range, and there really isn't anyone serious playing in the space besides Jacquemus.

Burberry is launching pre Christmas and Christmas campaigns and none of the have even a faint of Daniel’s input - it looks so awfully generic I have no words. Another example of lack of professionalism from suits…
