Discussion: Who Should Be The Creative Director of Chanel?

the perfect choice? Nicolas Ghesquière or Junya Watanabe. Can you imagine a couture show by any of them? I’d f*cking die.
But it’s not gonna be them so I couldn’t care less about speculations…
Junya is not going to happen but I like the idea, like I can imagine how challenged he will feel and that might spark some creative juices. But fluffy ideas like this isnt strong enough to convince the owners to bet on Junya.

My safest bet like many others, is with Hedi, and who knows, Hedi may just be able to brainwash the existing Chanel customers to come to his Dior Homme/ Saint Laurent/ Celine camp. He has proven that with attracting a whole brand new of clientele profile from Phoebe Philo`s Celine, who is to say he cant with Chanel?

Maybe my only worry is the Chanel Homme side might overshadow the womens` but knowing the whole existing machinery in power, that worry should also be unnecessary.

No one is thinking about him, but Erdem is very cultured, understands textile, does bridal, and would connect well with the conservative clienteles at Chanel. Anna clearly loves him, and he speaks French fluently (grew up in Montreal).

The problem is that he is a romantic who focuses on the past, not forward. He’s just not connected enough with pop culture/current affairs/modernism to lead Chanel into the epitome of fashion. He also seems to be happy and content to be independent.

don't flatter yourself, I said dad bod.
I figured youd think I was personally offended. Imagine being predictable.
This leads me into Hedi …

Hedi represents a European ideal. Europeans want to he Egyptians. They want that same cryptic but somehow weighty visual language. Hedi provides an analogue. His most recent works are celebrations of minimal line and massive megalithic forms. Symphonique Radio or whatever was nothing but forms and line.

Stripping back into nothing but important silhouttes is really hard. The mens FW - if its his finale at Celine - was probably his best Homme collection since DH Solitaire. A vision from open to close. Nothing but silhoutte.

I think many things about Hedi at celine. I think it wont happen.

- Chanel may close the doors to regular dialogue with the fashion world

- Chanel Homme will have people queuing up around the world.

- Chanel manufacture quality will increase.

- Chanel Homme will likely reshape the menswear landscape globally. Zara will eventually produce one shoulder tops for men.

I dont even know what the silent glottal h would sound like. What other languages do you speak susie …

It's how you pronounce the "h" in a word like "home."

So all you need on your resume is how to make a shift dress.

I love this era of MJ. Sometimes I forget he had quite a lot of talent. He’s so good with styling.

I don’t like his recent work (although some of it has some quality), but I really wouldn’t mind him at the helm.

Also, for a house with so many collections, I think he is eclectic enough to not end up being boring. Accessories would be super hot and there would be a little bit irony/drama/fun, which is also needed.
