Discussion: Who Should Be The Creative Director of Chanel?

Out of all the names, Hedi is the best choice. But he seems like such a wet blanket, no personalty. What does he even sound like? I imagine him making squeaking sounds. Karl is hard to live up to but everyone so dull now.

Hedi's self aware enough not to try to be a vocal personality like KL. Maybe someone on his team can get him rambling about the minutiae of tailoring or whatever youth subculture he's into that given month and turn it into occasional blog posts. Pair that with the occasional Hedi fit pic of the day for everyone who wants to copy Hedi's personal style, and you've got a way more "accessible" Hedi without him actually telling us anything about himself.

I'd love to read his ramblings about photography, but even that's probably too personal for him to go into.

Yeah, I know...but I see it more awful at Chanel than at any other brand. Maybe is because I remember collections like this one:

That’s such a great collection. The styling has aged quite well but OMG what a mess of a presentation.
I do enjoy Karl’s joyful mess but I can imagine the stress for the photographers and stylists to capture 5 variations of the same looks coming down the runway at the same time. At least 200 looks on that show I guess.

wow i didn't remember this...it was a great show and the collection was so complete, they didn't needed to do prefall or another one, they had it all for the season...

Ew. I can't believe I've become some sort of Chanel-stan, but I don't reeeeaally think it's fast-fashion for the rich. I think with girls and young women it really holds a place of fantasy across many socioeconomic statuses. Whether someone wants to treat themselves (sorry to trigger you @tourbillions) with a nice purse because they got their first "adult" job or buying couture at the other end of the spectrum. I mean, that's what I've personally noticed with regards to Chanel. I know, the idea of bourgeoise existing and buying high fashion is triggering to certain users because we're all rich on tFS (on the internet, no one knows you're a dog), but... still.

(Not to mention makeup, perfumes, etc.)

Part of the "fast fashion" comment is for the current quality.
I'm one of the girls who bought the first piece of Chanel with the first bonus. I spent 1/2 and saved 1/2. (The government took the first bite.)
I still wear that piece today, almost 20 years later.
I was invited to a lunch presentation, seated with the socialites, watching the gorgeous models, jaw dropped. But a fantasy and the drive for success were planted.

The quality today is simply subpar. I generally think that for that kind of price, you deliver either fashion (Hedi's Celine as one example) or craftsmanship (Hermes/BC), or both (JPG's Hermes, KL's Chanel). Today's Chanel RTW offers neither. The turn really started when the Unilever lady was hired. It was late 2021. Look up...every single RTW collection after that was designed for higher gross margin. The changes were visible to all existing customers.

The TRR has many RTW pieces for sale. they were all from recent collections with tags attached. So yes, it's now largely rich people's fast fashion.

What about Rick Owens for Chanel?? Tweed jackets with monster shoulders, little black turd dresses, the classic bi-colored sandal with glam-rock platforms, a new parfum (Chanel nº666)...

...and as a bonus each Halloween Rick cosplaying Karl, Michelle cosplaying Coco; and Tyrone cosplaying Jacques de Bascher (as he is also a bad influence).

AI probably has not updated itself to the current state of rick owens... This seems to be more vintage rick 😁

he doesnt even need to predict.. everyone already knows/sees what hedis chanel will look like. leather pieces, overly embroidered mini dressess, tweed jackets and skirts in black and white, jeans and t shirt "model off duty" look and a furry coat every now and then for that "wow" moment.

I don’t know if the Hedi customer is willing to spend 6K to 10k on a tweed jacket.

Tbh, the man craving so much for Chanel should just go and buy the womenswear…

I’m not for Hedi taking over Chanel so the idea of a full menswear line is not exciting to me so, I feel totally detached about it.
It was cute to see the menswear looks on the runway since 2007. The production was very limited…
If it stays on that setting, why not. But menswear with 10 womenswear collections a year is rather insane.

Luxury is slowing down in China as we know so I wouldn’t doubt a little menswear relaunch to grab this market too… Also they need someone who could boost in-store customer experience.

it sounds more like a desire for chanel under hedi menswear than chanel menswear... He could always just go to zegna/agnona if thats what people want. im sure they can offer him something, they are quite blank canvassess and hedi's clients can probably afford zegna/agnona price points.

i wonder if his followers and lisas followers could afford the 3k usd t shirts at chanel.
