Doc Martens revival

Haven't worn mine in years...
Still have 'em though...
Hmmm...
I had/have a monk strap pair with a square toe (black), a zippered boot (black), a penny loafer (black), and a pair of those ubiquitous brown lace-ups...
:ninja:
The boots are good for riding, that's really it...
I find 'em all to be far too bulky now...

I have a pair of Mary Jane-ish Docs, but with three buckled straps instead of one. Big grommets on the straps, so not overly cute. I like to wear them with my work pants. With a more straight-laced outfit, in general actually. Makes the outfit slightly cooler. Also, the sad thing is, this is the shoe with the highest heel that I wear on a somewhat daily basis, so it allows me to wear those pants without dragging them on the floor. Man, those soles are clunky though.

In addition, I found a pair of Dr M sneakers the other day at Goodwill. Much more toned down than the combat boots of yesteryear. It's a spiffier version of old school sneakers.

i am also really paying attention to docs lately... i was never into them back when they were all the rage before, but lilith showed them at her show here and i think i fell in love. i can really see myself wearing them this ...hopefully a modernized design of them though

i too have been seeing people popping up in them around the LA area.

they usually where them with mini dresses, bu t it doesn't look punk or goth at all.

I've always liked the look of them although I've never owned a pair.

I live in Portland, and I see them quite a bit, but I also see the punk look quite a bit here as well.

Ive noticed alot of them popping up in japanese street fashions ..

I actually have a pair that are black and white newspaper print. After reading this thread, I'm totally tempted to break them out and wear 'em today!

i like them a lot. i've been buying a lot of grungey clothing for fall recently, i think doc martens would work well with this look.

the sixth picture in post 28 is awesdome, i love her contrast of sophisticated elegance with the usually clunky doc martens.

I wore them this whole winter. ^_^
Mine are a bit more 'feminine' as in less harsh and chunky, by Sonya Rykiel (I can never spell her name :().

I will be sort of annoyed, to be honest, if they become a major trend..because I like being the only one in school who wears them. :D

a few nights ago, i was just thinking how docs should be making a come back soon then i come on tfs to find this thread!!

In the netherlands there out of style, but there will be always people who wear doc's.

Post #32...those would take 1/2 hour to lace up. I couldn't go that high.

docs were very popular when i was in high school among the punk/goth crowd.

I couldn't rock them.

This thread makes me nostalgic. I bought a pair of black 10-eyes with my first paycheck ever when I was about 15 years old.

That was ten years ago and I still have the boots (my feet haven't grown since then), although I only wear them in the snow now. Otherwise they are too clunky and not really my style anymore, although I do love the uniquely Doc Martens oxblood color of some pairs.

I also had a pair of brown and cream brogues that I wore in high school when I was into ska.

I've been expecting these to come back for a while...I mean the last time they were fashionable was the mid-90s - centuries ago in fashion terms, so the timing is right.

I've got three pairs from my early teen years - black 8-eyes, apple green 8-eyes :p, and black 20-eyes (i.e. knee-length). I do love the idea of wearing them with something completely unexpected...like wearing them with long full layered wool skirts in soft neutral colours. I don't like the heavy goth/metal connotation though...docs are perhaps one of the most strongly stereotyped shoe around. I'd like the burgeoning trend to be more focused on the early 20th century utilitarianism of the style.
but to be honest I find them SO uncomfortable to wear. I never completely broke mine in. the way they shape around my ankle is awkward and I always got terrible blisters from mine. :(

Good news. I love my docs and I was never able to part with them. I have a pair of black steel toed 20 eye, regular 14 eye, and patent leather 14 eye. They've too often been used only for the rain and when I go out to certain clubs.
