And I agree with the crap about giving awards to imitations! Hooray to whoever said it. Why is it everytime a movie based on the true story, they automatically being Oscar considered??? The critics was touched by the true story, not by the performences. Like if you are deeply touch by Johnny Cash, a movie about him would touch you better. But that should not be the reason why an Oscar being given. There are a lot of movies which are not true stories but very moving and meaningful. Where the hell are they????

Plus, Oscars are just about Hollywood these days. They completely forget about foreign movies. If they even bother to remember, they will find many many MANY movies which are better and "truer" than those Hollywood imitations. I personally don't really like those movies that says "based on true story". They mostly just stick that phrase on. But everyone knows a true story is far less dramatic and all-flaired out like that!

well said.....! agree with you.....! hollywood = self centered movie industry..... can't blame them..... !

That's exactly why I can't stand biopics anymore, let's see...umm...we've had: Ray, The aviator,Sylvia, Walk the Line, Truman Capote,Monster,The lords of DogtownDomino, (they made everything up but you know, still a biopic) and even North Country...we'll have Sofia Coppola's M.A,Factory girl and there is still a possibility of Spierlberg finally directing Marlene Dietrich's biopic with Mrs. Paltrow as the lead female.

^ oh dear..... ..it's getting extremely sickening...

It is disappointing to see that so many excellent foreign movies are neglected when it comes to receiving acclaim, but the Oscars is about Hollywood. Eligibility for an Academy Award is partially based on how much promotion it receives in Los Angeles.

Just out of curiosity, since I see that so many of you are upset at the nominations each year, what did you think was neglected this year in nominations?

And I agree that Sean Penn deserved his award. I just follow Johnny Depp's career more closely, so I'm biased towards him. I'm sure everyone has their own opinions over which actor is more talented, or we wouldn't be having this discussion on how supposedly dreadful the Oscars have become, would we? :]

My recent ponderings:
Best Actress - Felicity Huffman vs. Reese Witherspoon
With the new advertisments airing for "Transamerica" I am losing faith in Reese Witherspoon. Just because my body is a work in process does not mean I do not possess a soul. That just screams: Academy Award Winner for Best Actress (in a dramatic performance)!
But Reese did get the Entertainment Weekly cover for their Oscar issue... so I think I just may be being paranoid...
To tell the truth, the more I think about it, the more I think neither of these actresses are worthy of an Oscar... :innocent:
Best Picture - Crash vs. Brokeback Mountain
With all the attention they are recieving, once again: parnoia is getting the best of me...

- I hate the fact that receiving an Oscar depends on your past roles. We all know that if Heath Ledger didn't do all those romantic-teen movies, he would be the frontrunner. I still have my fingers crossed...

No kidding. It's all based on politics and who took out a bigger ad in the Hollywood Reporter...but I'll be damned if I miss it   :P

Who cares if the Oscars are bad awards-wise? It puts on a hella good fashion show and gives people a reason to wear couture.

I thought the oscars were for any english speaking movies (not just hollywood). definitely not the world or they wouldn't have a 'best foreign film' category

Make your final prediction for the Oscars.

I dont like the oscars..but John stewart is soo funny!! so him and the dresses is why i m watching...what time will it show paris time?

how about Amy Adams? Do you think there is a new push for her? Supporting actress is a wierd one- sometimes it goes to the newcomer.

I hated brokeback mountain. HATED it. I seem to be the only one. And sometimes I'm even sort of afraid to say it in front of my gay friends as they LOVE it. I don't want to come off as a homophobic b*tch because that is so not me. But I really don't understand all the buzz. It was quite boring for me.

As was Memoirs of a Geisha. I mean I'm watching the movie and it's all beautiful in terms of costume and colors and what not but in the end I walk out thinking... what the hell was the plot of the movie? ... who would buy her virginity in the end and I find it quite... stupid to be frank.

I came out of Syriana feeling dumb.

I can't think af a movie I really fell in love with. Then again, I haven't seen a majority of them and am afriad to after watching these. What a waste. I followed the buzz and the buzz was a waste of my time.

I am interested, genuinely, in seeing Good Night and Good Luck I think it was called. I plan on seeing that one. Looks like a good one.

Well I loved BBM, thought it was excellent and very outstading performance and you aren't a homophobic b*tch at all, some of my friends think it's way too slow. Anyway,I think it deserves to win best picture for the good directing, the acting, music and cinematography.

Good night and good luck was really good, watch it last week and well the plot is pretty interesting and if you know about cold war and the red scare you'll like. George Clooney did a good job and his actors(especially the one playing Mr. Murrow is great).

Amy Adamns has no chances at all, sorry if you're a fan. Actually, this year, I think the good performances(female I mean) are in the supporting categories, they are all really good. I mean, Michelle Williams(hope she gets it), Rachel Weisz(will probably get it), Catherine Keener(fab in Capote), Frances Mcdormand ad Amy Adamns, they are by far better than Knigthley and Theron(who did she manage to get another nod?).

There is going to be a big figth tonight for the supporting actress, I think Keener, Weisz and Williams were fantastic and have equal chances.
