Edie Sedgwick #1

I rented Factory Girl last week. I watched Hickenbloopmeradeggan's commentary, which was actually pretty interesting. he has a big long speech at one point talking about Warhol's place in modern art and he's fairly well spoken on the matter. Two interesting things he said: the actress who played Edie's mom actually met Edie in the 60's, and Michael Post is the cab driver at the very end when Edie and the southern dude are sitting in the cab.

Libery Bell was not "just some random person", she's been a very kind, thoughtful member here who has provided Edie fans with several unseen family photos and other insights and she contributed a lot more to this thread than some people who's main contribution is defending Factory Girl.

Eh...I thought it was strange and still do. I can only be honest...but it doesn't matter now.

Right, so some random person just broke into Edie relatives homes and stole their photos so that they could post them on the internet, i'm so sure!

Odelay, thanks for the info! I didn't notice he was the cab driver. But he only met Edie later in her life and i don't know about what kind of person he is but the fact that he did this movie angers me.

I'm sick of talking about Factory Girl because the thought of it puts me in a bad mood and i don't want there to be tension on this wonderful thread! Can we all just agree to disagree? Some of us hate the movie and have good reasons why and some of us like the movie and have good, cough, reasons why.

I just wanted to say my opinion on this matter...

I thought both Sienna and Guy did a great job with an absolutley horrendous script.
There are so many minor wrongs, that they just could have done right, and the movie would have been so much better.
They should really have hired a hardcore-edie-fan to give her/his opinion on every scene before they started shooting it.
I could have done it for free!

It would have been sooo easy to make this movie alot better!

and who is calling LibertyBell "some random person"?
she´s a gift to have in this thread, though... I haven´t seen her in a while... where has she gone too?
she´s missed...

people on the internet claim a lot of things...and candids flow more easily than they used to. Hence so many fake myspaces...so excuse me for being skeptical...mmmhmmmm....

have you even seen those pics?
do they even look like candids to you?
they are familypics, taken of her at the farm in Santa Barbara, after she came back from NY, and also some pics of her when she was younger.

no one here had ever seen those pics before, and believe me, if they had been somewhere on the internet before, someone other than Leila (LibertyBell) would have found them first.

Well said! And the same to Nel at what you said about LibertyBell, I was a little taken aback at some comments about her. She knew very personal things and seemed absolutely genuine. Plus of course the photos.

I'm not talking about Paris Hilton and those girls, they get their pictures taken everyday so of course it's easy for someone to make fake myspaces of them. I'm talking about Edie who had many pictures taken of her but not as many as stars do today. Liberty Bell posted pictures of Edie at home relaxing with her family. And like fairyx said, if those pictures were out there we would have seen them, but they weren't. I think it's very tackey for you to come on here and accuse people whom you don't even know, obviously. It's one thing to discuss the film and everything but it's very rude to attack a specific person on her.

i love you edie!! i just saw factory girl and loved it!! esp . the style <3

First of all, this movie has absolutely nothing to do with art. For anyone who knows anything about cinema this movie was horrible, even for those who don't know who Edie is. It's just a bad movie, bad acting, Sienna and Guy aren't even bad actors and i'm not blaiming them, but overall the acting was BAD. Secondly, the whole story of this movie is saying Bob Dylan and Edie had a serious relationship...no one knows if this is true and even if it is it is not THAT significant in Edie's story, so why make it the main story of the movie?? Thirdly, the people who knew Edie who were associated with this film were either in it for some extra cash/fame, were trying to bring some truth to a fictional story, or are crazy! Liberty Bell said that Jonathan is a bit off and the rest of the family didn't approve.

Ooh! Very, very well said! I've been an Edie fan since I was 15 (I'm 29 now) and at first, I was quite excited to hear that a movie was going to be made about her. Once reports starting trickling out about who they cast (Jimmy Fallon as Gerard Melanga?) and the general gist of the script, I was disappointed. I attempted to watch it with an open mind but, the liberties they took were way too big. The Dylan thing was obsessed over and the bottom line is, none of know what happened between them. One of them is dead and the other (although talented & cool) is notoriously tight lipped about personal situations.

I've yet to watch the dvd with the commentary (mainly bought it for the extras that turned out to be bo-ring!) but, I'm not surprised the director didn't care what Edie fans thought about it. It's impossible to please everyone but, I've never encountered a long time Edie fan who thinks this movie is even close to being accurate. I do think Sienna & Guy were amazing in their roles. Too bad they had such a bad script to work with.

Edie wasn't a sympathetic person or character, if you will. Like all of us, she had problems and dealt with them in a very destructive manner. She had all the opportunities in the world presented to her but, she still couldn't completely get it together. I think a lot of us relate to that. I honestly don't think she had a chance to not end up the way she did. Too many doctors back then threw drugs and shock treatments at her to basically shut her up and keep her "controlled". Those things don't work without the proper knowledge in how to deal with the crap hand life sometimes deals you. She never learned how to do that and that really ended up being her downfall. I don't think she should be admired blindly but, I don't think she should be dismissed as some vapid socialite who just didn't care enough to get pull herself together.

That's the truly heartbreaking part. She tried several times and failed. She knew her life wasn't in a good place and tried to fix it. I think that needs to be recognized.

That remark about Jonathon is interesting. I was wondering why no other family members were involved with Factory Girl. I read Edie's widower helped Sienna do research on Edie and was surprised that he wasn't interviewed for the dvd as well. I've always wondered what happened to Edie's siblings and if they'd ever be involved in anything having to do with telling Edie's story. I'm actually glad the rest of them didn't get involved with FG. Anyone related to her would probably lend it more credibility than it deserves.

Leila/Liberty is most definitely Edie's niece, I have no doubt about that :flower:

I found some rere Edie Pictures, hope you like them...they are screencaps from the special french edition of Ciao! Manhattan. The quality is not the best, sorry!

Trust me I wasn't the only one who thought a certain somebody may be shady...plenty of people pm'd about it so...and I didn't attack anyone, just presented a different point of view about the situation.

We'll aren't you special. This isn't the place for you to accuse people, negative points of view towards other members are NOT welcome here. It's good to hear everybody's view point for many things but not accusing other members, how do you think Leila would feel if she saw what you said? She many never post again!

I never accused anyone of anything. I never mentioned her name...but this is a messageboard and I can disagree with people, just like I have agreed with people on here.

The only thing I did was take issue with, was how people were chastised for liking the film in particular...it started to become odd. Like no one was allowed to speak positively about it because her family may have disapproved and everyone invovled was crazy??

I can see that you're angry, but I'm not and I'm just trying to tell you what I thought and how other people were feeling at the time.
