I wonder if Edie's earrings being clip-ons made them less painful to wear? I would love to wear shoulder-dusters like hers but I have long hair and I'm not really fond of the way they look on long hair.

I have really long hair, too, so long earrings look weird if i'm wearing my hair down but if i put it up in a bun they work. I don't have any quite as long as Edie's though!

I don't think Edie's earrings were clip-ons..they look too heavy IMO

I read that she never had her ears pierced and I think that may be true because in Beauty #2 she gives one to Chuck Wein to try on and there's also a pic of John Cale wearing another pair of hers, both very heavy looking. Apparently in those days pierced ears weren't considered classy and since Edie was of good breeding she probably got used to the clip-ons.

I think i remembering reading she never got her ears pierced somewhere. And clip on earrings are really strong (they usually hurt my ears so i think it takes getting used to) so they wouldn't fall off even if heavy. And Pinkgoddess is right about it not being classy back then. My mom said her grandmother thought it was something cheap that only gypsies did!

Whenever I wear clip-ons I'm afraid I'm going to lose them..they're like sagging And yes it was usual not to have pierced ears before..we have alot of clip-on vintage earrings, my mum and I^^
But now we're all gypsies

Maybe Edie did get her ears pierced later in life, she did get a boob job after all and that must have been more taboo that pierced ears
