Edward Enninful Departing British Vogue as EIC, Promoted to New Global Role within Condé Nast

Condé’s decision to hire an editorial content head is aimed at bringing British Vogue in line with the overall group’s new management structure, where content is shared globally and editors in chief are a thing of the past.

I guess that's it then, RIP British Vogue it's becoming another reprint edition just copy-pasting editorials from American Vogue (why is it the dullest editions that get seen as worthy to be spread all over the world just because they're big)

6 more weeks (Months) of winter....

"Enninful is also helping to hunt for a head of editorial content for British Vogue, who will look after the day-to-day of the magazine.

Condé’s decision to hire an editorial content head is aimed at bringing British Vogue in line with the overall group’s new management structure, where content is shared globally and editors in chief are a thing of the past.

Enninful took over as editor in chief of British Vogue in August 2017 and in December 2020 was promoted to European editorial director of Vogue."

So with the hunt of a HOC is basically it's the end of British Vogue as we know it...i wonder what Alexandra thinks about it...so who will be the best HOC for British Vogue? maybe someone in-house?

I think one by one of the remaining EIC will transform into HOC even with the franchises.

Edward was also "European Editorial Director of Vogue" so that title will pass to the HOC or someone else or just to the trash?

And this is all because Edward's greed? because there is something that makes no sense here...

Edward was basically dismissed and all the extra 'titles' he has been given are symbolic, there to placate his ego (as in the case of his previous European Editorial Director title) and soften the blow of his dismissal (in the case of Global Creative and Cultural Advisor of Vogue...lol). Once he leaves British Vogue, he will basically be a free agent, though still able to associate himself (and style for) Vogue when it suits him. A win-win for him.

All this was done in the name of consolidation and cost-cutting for Condé Nast, and frankly to consolidate Wintour's power over the brand. Anna and Juan Costa Paz (why is this guy in fashion?) are now calling all the shots when it comes to commissioning cover shoots and 'global stories' for Vogue. The Heads of Editorial Content are there to execute Wintour and Paz's vision, as well as manage the day-to-day and commission what little written content is left in these magazines.

British Vogue have even started a countdown until Edward's departure over on Instagram - like it's something to celebrate and for us to look forward to. I have been far from supportive of British Vogue's current direction (with the firm exception of Meisel) but the magazine's future seems bleak without Enninful at the helm.

The only thing we have to look forward to, is the slight possibility Edward goes ALL out with his final issues and overspends on umpteen Steven Meisel shoots and all those other collaborators he favours - like Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott and Nick Knight.

I just really want Edward to put himself on his final cover, at this rate. I don’t see another way his tenure could end.

Surrounded by friends i.e Naomi, depending on how the wind is blowing that month.

Beyoncé sends a deeply personal message (via an aide to her PA team following several levels of consultation and clearance by her communication department).

I wonder if Adwoa would round things out, being on the first cover and also the last?

Imagine if Meisel announced his retirement?

Because Edward is leaving? Lol..

Stephen is on the cusp of a creative wave.:winking:

Not because of Edward, but a combination of things, the late-stage nature of his current output.

At the moment, it's like how Helmut Newton worked in the 90's, where people are hiring him for the name, and what gets returned is Meisel in name only.

And if everything from now on will be dictated by the American version of Vogue, how much magazine work was Meisel doing there? Was he exclusively tied to UK Vogue? US Vogue covers are used as opportunities for newer names. Will his work disappear from covers completely?

Also, books and exhibitions. Some artists don't like having books or exhibitions about their work, because looking at your work in retrospect carries the feeling that what you've done has become a chapter in the past, that your relevance is becoming more historical than current. That you are old, rather than vital and creative, with so much more to show the world. If Meisel wasn't really one for these things throughout the decades of his career, he increasingly seems to be now.

Meisel will keep working on fashion campaigns. I doubt it if he will work for Vogue again. I remember the Life In Looks video about Lagerfeld, and Him was the only photographer that Anna Wintour avoided to name.

Global change makers.

Seriously get him his things and get this bum out of here. That countdown to when he leaves seems petty on Condes part.

On that note, I've just pre-ordered this, despite not being a Meisel or Evangelista stan. Because to me, they both feel like fashion history at this point with nothing fresh to offer.
