anyone who says she's not too smart hasn't read any of her interviews or bios.

That is completely true. Not stupid, just perhaps a little naive, pretentious and shy. I'm not saying that she is any of these things, but she may come across that way. She's certainly a refreshing breath of air compared to the Hollywood brats (even though I like some of them too).:D

Ok, when I said that she's like the lights are on but there's no one at home I did not mean it in the most common connotation of the idiom, ie that she's stupid. Like you pointed out - she has the papers to prove that she is one smart girl. There is no doubt about that at all.

What I meant was that for such a bright girl she sure makes a less than spiritual impression in talk show interviews. Sure, this can be because the talk show is so vacuous she doesn't even try, but still, to me she gives this impression of being a good girl who is going through the motions of being successful and intelligent like her parents taught her. She has been so successful and had such a good time that she has not yet had time to rebel against her parents - perhaps - I'm speculating - but it is pretty common among good girls (this is first hand knowledge). The side effect of this is that she seems to lack personality - and she's not very fetching. Unless when she's acting - when she is TO DIE for. I think she might be shy and young, that's the whole thing. I'm just not used to seeing such a perfect successful creature being shy like a normal teenager... Actually, when I think about it, I really appreciate her for being such a non-wannabe. She's just been blessed by nature with all these wildly improbable qualities - one of the most beautiful girls in the world (no flaws whatsoever), who is a great actress (at 18!) and an IQ of over 140...how often does that happen?!? Not in the last 20 years, anyway.

Thanks for the recommendations! I will go get hold of Nola, which to me seems to be the most interesting. I thought TDAT was entertaining enough but...well...Emmy was the most striking feature of the film ;)
I think Nola is coming out on DVD in August in the US and early September in the UK-probably because Emmy's career is taking off they're releasing some of her hard to find older films. They also show it on Lifetime occassonally. I enjoyed it, though my friend (who I saw it with) didn't like it. It just depends on your taste. Let me know what you think.

A couple pic I've never seen:

^ I don't get the impression that she's shy at all. I saw some clips of her interviews, and in one where she invited the access hollywood (or something like that) crew with her to pre-premiere stuff, she was a serious chatterbox. I doubt she's shy.

I like her shoe's they're cute...You said they have shoes like those at Old Navy? Hmmmm:p

yeah, take a look. i want those shoes really, really bad...

not that i've seen. i can look.

Towards the middle of Phantom I felt a bit nauseated by her "sweetness" ... I don't know how else to describe it. She's pretty but I can't look at her for too long otherwise I start getting annoyed.

I thought she was great in Phantom (and towards the middle she stopped being so "sweet"- she started being less innocent, more aware, and by the end more empowered- she did what she felt she had to do) I thought she was perfect for the role (and I loved the movie) Some of those scenes she had with the Phantom were fairly erotic even though they were both fully clothed-the relationship between the two of them revealed her character's darker, mor senual side while her relationship with Raoul brought the focus to her "sweet" side. It was also a more complex role than it's given credit for- her character was lonely and vulnerable which left her open to spychological manipulation. She's used as a tool for others to fulfill their desires and she finally comes to take control.

Not only is she beautiful but she's incredibly accomplished. She was singing with the Metropolitan Opera at the age of 7 and She finished High School at 15. She attends Columbia University when she's not working

Anyway, if you didn't like Phantom she's been great in some other movies. I'd reccomend:
-Songcatcher-she won an award at the sundance film festival and was nominated for an independant spirit award for this one
-Passionada
-Mystic River

Some of her other films are not as good IMO, but still worth a mention
-The Day After Tomorrow-Actually I thought that she was one of the bright spots in this otherwise fairly standard action movie
-Nola-I liked this but my friend who I saw it with didn't. When they showed it on Lifetime they cut out a few scenes and some language, and made it more of a standard lifetime movie.

She's also been in these movies which I haven't seen so I can't really give an opinion:
-Happy Now
-An American Phapsody
-The Audrey Heprun Story
-Genius
-Grace and Glorie
-Only Love

There are a bunch of stills from these films on her thread.
If you've only seen Phantom or The Day After Tomorrow, I'd say see some of her other movies- they show her range as an actress.

She's also won a lot of awards-
2 Young Star Awards
A Sundance Film Festival Special Juy Prize
A National Board of Review Award
A Saturn Award
A Broadcast Film Critics Award
A Critics Choice Award
and been nominated for :
A Golden Globe
An IndepandantSpirit Award
A MTV Movie Award

Not bad for an 18 year old!

^ Oh no I thought she was great in Phantom! I'm just talking purely about how she looked in my earlier post ... nothing to do with her acting abilities. I wasn;t being very clear about it. Sorry hehehe ...
