F/W 06.07 Ad Campaigns

Du's inclusion along with the other models speaks volumes as to her potential. It's far too early to condemn her -- I suspect we've only seen the 'pre-show' when it comes to her abilities. Sure, we've seen plenty of runway but far too little print. The folks at LV and YSL obviously see that potential. If Du's really talented in front of the camera, she'll be able to manipulate that lense as good as the best of them.
I'll wait to pass judgement until the ads come out.;)

du juan is doing louis vuitton

from fwd:
for the fall/winter Louis Vuitton campaign—which just wrapped at Pier 59 after a two-day shoot with photographers Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot—Jacobs cast a superstar (Naomi Campbell), the current reigning queen (Daria Werbowy), and the next big Asian supermodel (Du Juan).

^Fantastic :) I knew they would talk about the variety between the casting. No mention of the other big names, though? Hm...

At least we got it confirmed now.. and we know that it actually really is campaign :D

from FWD:
for Valentino’s fall campaign, it’s all about the “glamazon from down under”—aka Gemma Ward.
The Australian supermodel has been cast as the sole face of Valentino’s upcoming women’s campaign...designer tapped cutting-edge fashion duo Mert Alas and Marcus Piggot.

Well, it won't be the first time YSL used an Asian model in their campaigns. Ai Tominaga did YSL a few seasons back.
The LV campaign should be interesting... Asian, Black and white models in the same ads? Wow.

You know, I didn't even think about that! I kept pondering about the variety of model STATUS, and not race...very intriguing concept!

du juan, i dunno, i dun like her appeal, her face isn't good for the taste of asians at all, i think she is not hot in asia....personally! PERSONALLY! i think china is the next big market for luxurious products, people there are pretty rich and they are so addicted to the western luxe., probably that is the reason dujun was chosen! NO OFFENCE PLZ!

Ai Tominaga on YSL is Tom Ford age, it's not really YSL

How is YSL under Tom Ford not YSL? It doesn't matter how bad he was under the label, how much he was criticized for his work, whichever way you slice it, YSL is YSL. If that logic were followed, Pilati = not YSL. That's like saying Gucci is no longer Gucci because Tom Ford is no longer there (which people have been saying in one form or another).

I, for one, am relieved that more Asians will be represented in high fashion campaigns, and am looking forward to Du in YSL (if it's true). This season's YSL campaign is just... disgusting. Snejana looked bored and sick, Tanya D looked ill, Linda E looked... decrepit. No more sick, half-dead looking European models, please!

Ive never seen Du Juan so I cant say anything, but i thought that the asian market sold the most designer products. Like in the US there are like storefronts that contain stores like chanel, prada, etc...but in japan for instance the stores are buildings!

haha, everybody know what's YSL in fashion industry! i don't want to indisposition talk about "logic" , it's really absurdity! Tom Ford make a very fabulous collections for YSL, but that's just for himself, not for YSL. now, Pilati show us what's Patisran chic, what's really YSL in 21 century.
and i think if all model look so bad, maybe you look better for YSL

no, gemma ward is horrible for valentino. she doesnt have the elegance, and since when is she a "glamazon"

i think du juan is perfect for lv. shes got the perfect look for mert and marcus too.

but i dont know about ysl, she doesnt seem gritty enough, if thats the right word

^ I think Gemma might look ok, because I thought she suited the collection...
