Hi everyone! I need your help! I am doing a project on movies that started fashion trends and I need to think of more movies that have done so! So, can anyone think of a movie that has started a fashion trend? It can be from any decade. So far, I have three movies:

Breakfast at Tiffany's- little black dress, oversized sunglasses
Roman Holiday- neck scarf, mens shirt w/ belted full skirt
Flashdance- off-the-shoulder baggy sweatshirts w/ leggings

Any others?

off the top of my head, here are some:

SABRINA -- termed the "Sabrina neckline"
LOVE STORY - crochet hats
CHARIOTS OF FIRE - Ralph lauren look
A PLACE IN THE SUN - famous dress by Edith head for Elizabeth Taylor created the most popular prom gown for that year
ANNIE HALL - people copied Diane Keaton's look
INDECENT PROPOSAL - the spider black dress
IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT - when clark gable showed that he didnt wear a wifebeater, sales of undershirts went down 40%
AMERICAN GIGALO - helped put Armani on the map
BONNIE AND CLYDE - berets

even though no one agrees with me  lol i have recently seen movies such as pretty in pink and sixteen candles - and now i have seen direct modern approprations this season nd last

Moulin Rouge - the whole spectacle ... yeah well I think you know what I mean

one of my favourite facts in film history. and one of my favourite film scenes, too. :D

i would mention james dean wearing jeans and a t-shirt (that was originally underwear), too. that represented a attitude a whole generation should identify with after watching rebel without a cause.

I agree. Great scene. I was going to mention THE WILD ONE which also is said to influence the t-shirt look but I am not sure how valid it was. I dont remember which film is older, REBEL W/O A CAUSE or THE WILD ONE. And MOULIN ROUGE started a trend in fin de siecle Parisian fashion? News to me.

you are right. how could i forget about marlon brando?!

the wild one ('53) is older than rebel without a cause ('55)
and even older is street car named desire ('51)

i think both films had a high impact. (the wild one and rebel without a cause) but i leave the figuring out of the details to those who write thesis' on that subject. ^_^ :flower:
