Favourite book when you where a child?

I second the Moomin books by Tove Jansson. They have been translated into several languages, and they are unique among children's books.
Another favorite that's equally good for adults are the Flatland series by Edwin A. Abbott. For anyone who loves the inventiveness of mathematics, these are incredible!

Amelia Bedelia
Roald Dahl books
Curious George
Charlotte's Web
Paddington Bear
Dr. Seuss books
Ramona books by Beverly Cleary (I loved the videos too)
Sweet Valley series
Babysitters Club series (I LOVED those books; I remember I would like to read just the dialogue parts and pretend I was all of the characters; I loved acting out the stories. I even started my own club!)
The Berenstein Bears

I started to adore reading as soon as I learned how and I've never stopped.
Oh my God, you must have read my mind! I was honestly about to post the same list and thoughts. I do have some additions:

- all the Judy Blume books
- all the Shel Silverstein books
- The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton
- Bridge to Terabithia by Katherine Paterson
- A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
- Charlotte's Web by E.B. White
- The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

I also read a lot of poetry when I was younger (and still do love to read in general) and my favorite poet is/was Langston Hughes.

I had every Berenstein Bear book when I was a kid! Actually, I think I still have them at my parent's house. I loved them.
When I got old enough to read chapter books, my favorite was Julie of the Wolves!
I also liked Encyclopedia Brown, The Babysitters Club, The Boxcar Children, and other series books like those.

I loved books when I was little. My favourites were books with many collected traditional tales. I liked the Moomin books as well as other children's books by Scandinavian authors. When I was six my mother started to read The Lord of The Rings to me, and that became my favourite book. Roald Dahl and Rudyard Kipling were also favourites. Then there were of course those very traditional novels usually read to young girls, such as The Little Women and The Secret Garden. I wish there would still be someone who would read to me every night, that was wonderful.

It's sad that where I have grown up, some classic children books such as Dr. Seuss are not known. I have had to find these later on ... I still like some children's books.

Ahhh! I just realized that I forgot The Chronicles of Narnia & fairy tales. Oh, I'm sure that I have many other favorites that I can't recall right now.

The Secret Garden and A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett
The Anne of Green Gables series by L.M. Montgomery
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë
Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier

and almost anything by Judy Blume :D

Now that I remember I loved the Baby Sitters Club also. I identified most with Kristy me being the tomboy and all. I tried looking for some of the old books at Barnes & Noble earlier this year they don't even carry them anymore. Are they out of print? Discontinued?
:flower: They dont sell them anymore because their so old but you can get them off amazon.com and vintage book stores. I brought like 30 for 50 cents each before.. now I still buy them but for 4 $ I know its so hard to kick this BSC addiction , even if its for the younger readers I lvoe the books soo much and I can relate to the characters , its a great series and obviouslly quite easy to read.

y favourite Characters are Claudia and Dawn :D

every book by Otfried Preussler and Janosch
The Neverending Story by Michael Ende
Grimm's fairytales
Hans Christian Andersen fairytales
Pippi Longstocking
The little Vampire

Alice's adventures in Wonderland
Through the Looking-Glass, And what Alice found there
both, by Lewis Carroll, are still my faves.

I loved the Emily series by Lm Montgomery since that's my name:)

Reading is something that has continued with me, I still devour books:)

Dr. Suess books
Little Women (especially the first half)
the Sweet Valley books
The Babysitter's Club
Charlotte's Web
Anne of Green Gables
A Wrinkle in Time
fairy tales (I still love fairy tales )
I'm sure I have more I would list if I could remember.
I wish I could say I read the Lewis Carroll books and the Wizard of Oz ones, especially since I've read that Return To Oz is more like the books than The Wizard Of Oz is and I actually want to read them now that I'm older.
I actually took out the BFG from the library recently because I didn't even know it was a book. I had only seen the movie as a kid (and even watched it on Youtube recently).

I'm actually reading the first Oz book now because I recently found that I actually have it along with Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar and The Rainbow Fish :)
I was a proper bookworm when I was little...by the time I was six I'd read all of Roald Dahl's kids' books and most of Enid Blyton's Secret Seven and Famous Five series. And The Faraway Tree too.

The classics are always the best.

I want to read them all again now...
