Favourite book when you where a child?

The Iliad by Homer was one of my favorites and books about mythology. I also loved fairy tales with their different versions. But the first book I read was Don Quixote, loved it as a child.

Mine: The Phantom Tollbooth and, of course, Matilda, The BFG...

And some more but I can't remember.
:flower:

My faves were:

The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein
Charlotte's Web by E.B. White

I loved the Little House series, the Phantom Tollbooth, the Velveteen Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland, James & the Giant Peach, the Ramona books, Wizard of Oz, etc. I also went through a Baby Sitters Club phase (Claudia was my favorite I remember)

Now that I remember I loved the Baby Sitters Club also. I identified most with Kristy me being the tomboy and all. I tried looking for some of the old books at Barnes & Noble earlier this year they don't even carry them anymore. Are they out of print? Discontinued?

i used to love
-where the wild things are
-matilda
-witches
-dr seuss books
-babysitters club books
-sweet valley university books (not the high school one)

I used to love The Babysitters Club series, even more so when my school banned the collection

This reminds me... another book I simply adored.

I think the content was not deemed educational, academic however it sparked our interest in reading for pleasure so I think the school board missed the point

Books from my primary school days:
1) Where the wild things are. I had the book and read-a-long cassette. I needed it at the time
2) The Bridge to Terabithia. I remember reading it in the 4th grade, one of the two books that had actually made me cry. The other being Anna Karenina.
3) Alan Mendelsohn, The Boy from Mars by Daniel Pinkwater. I picked this book up randomly from the library in the 5th grade. It's still the funniest book I've ever read.
4) Chronicles of Narnia. I devoured these books. I tried to read it years later, and only then realized how simple they were. My favorite was "A Boy and his Horse"
5) White Fang. I'm not much a fan of Jack London now, but when I read it, it captivated me.
6) Hardy Boys. Seriously, I read almost every book in the series, and I don't remember a damn thing about them.

What I liked most about my junior college's library was that the student librarians were in charge of buying books for the fiction section so I could count on finding authors like Sophie Kinsella B)

Going back to topic...I have to agree with most of the choices here :flower:
As well as The Witch of Blackbird Pond, Enid Blyton's Wishing Chair series, Nancy Drew, various titles by Judy Blume (that's all I can think about off the top of my head...)

Pretty much all the Roald Dahl books, especially "Matilda" and "BFG".

Also really loved a lot of the stuff Beverly Cleary wrote. Really liked the Ramona books and "Henry and Ribsy", among others.

And, um, the "Sweet Valley" series was a guilty pleasure. I think I've read every single book in the "Sweet Valley Middle School" series....I found the "SV High" and "SV University" were all about relationships, which soon grew very boring and tedious.

You read the Iliad and Don Quixote as a child?! I'm still considered a child, and haven't read either...

^They might not be children books, but when I was 4 or 5 years old a friend gave me a beautiful illustrated edition of Don Quixote and I would spend hours reading it. I read the Iliad when I was nine and loved it so much, I read every mythology book I could find, but it might not be an appropiate book for every child though. I was a very precocious child so my mom didn't mind.:)

Madeleine!
Goodnight Moon
Anne of Green Gables
the Velveteen Rabbit
Dr. Seuss books

I still love looking through children's books...just for the illustrations! ^_^

I loved the Disney's hardback books like Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast...

:o ..................................................

"Precocious" is right.

Dr. Suess
Doodlebug
Amelia Bedelia
Curious George - Monkeys
Paddington Bear
Bears Always Share
Laura Ingalls Wilder (Little House on the Prairie series)

Goodnight Mr. Tom, man I loved that book...too be honest I loved all WWII personal stories when I was kid, what a dork :p
