Fiona Apple

it's been out for about a year now i think.. i remember pre-ordering it from amazon.com while i was in school last year ^_^

for me it was one of those cds that grows on you the more you listen to it--especially since her work is so lyrically driven

it's true that it's a bit more of a grower than her previous albums, but it's amazing once it sets in.
another pretty recent pic, just because :)

a weird thing keeps happening to me... (weird in a good way i think :p)

i have my itunes on "shuffle songs" and right when i clicked into this thread a fiona apple song came on (the way things are- from when the pawn...)

the same thing happened to me the other day when i went into the cat power thread... ^_^

"the way things are" is one of my favorite songs!
and yes, those bizarre musical twilight zone things have happened to me once or twice :)

she's been one of my favorites for so long and it's just now occurred to me to look for a thread on her

i think "tidal" was the first CD i ever bought for myself.. and definitely one of the most listened to... it's still great to listen to today, and I honestly can't say that about a lot of the other CDs I've bought over the years :innocent:

It's funny I had every song on Tidal except for Carrion. Now I'm obessed with that song, and it's official, Fiona is a goddess and is incapable of making a bad song.

When the Pawn... has to be my favorite Fiona album. Love Ridden has got to be one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard. I've been listening to that CD for years and it never gets old.

^^ i think all of her stuff sort of has that quality for me... i definitely have favorites when it comes to specific songs, and tidal will always stand out for me since it was her first effort and just really resonates for me..

her songs are literally poetry put to music... so good
there's so much emotion there

Couldn't agree with this more. She's so incredibly talented.

Do yourself a favor and watch this performance. It's Fiona Apple's cover of Elvis Costello's "I Want You." This is why I have to see Fiona Apple live, she just sings with so much intensity and passion. Even Costello praised her, saying "...for me, that was musically the high point of the evening, in terms of how much you can reach within a song and come up with something that was for you."

[EDIT] You can purchase the performance off of youtube. Not the video, but the song only.

Can't believe I never thought to look for a thread on her. God. I don't really know what I can say to add to this discussion, that hasn't already been said.

Then again, that's always been my theme with Fiona's music. Her playlist on my iTunes is entitled "Fiona Apple Stole My Thunder!"

Basically, she seems to always say it, express it, sing it better than I could ever think of. I could go on for hours, but the moral of the post doesn't change: best. singer/songwritter. of the twentyfirst century.

that was amazing...
thanks for posting it.. i've never seen it before
it's like she was in a trance or something..
which in this case i think worked very well for her performance.

in some instances i think that aspect can hurt her performances and make her look awkward (it seems like she doesn't quite know what to do with her arms at times or that she wants to curl up into herself--if that makes sense)

It doesn't look like it's been mentioned here, but Fiona is on a reissue of the soundtrack of "The Nightmore Before Christmas." The song she does - "Sally's Song" - is quite lovely.

Fiona has an itunes originals album for $9.99...
I'm tempted to buy it and am wondering if anyone has gotten it?

there are 26 tracks and i think half are of her speaking/giving commentary on the songs and her albums and her inspirations/writing process etc.

A lot of the songs are "itunes originals" versions so they're slightly different from the other album versions

what a dilemma :rolleyes::p

^ I have it. The "iTunes originals" are just live versions of the songs. I wouldn't discourage you, but it's definitely not a "must have". :)

Lately I've been listening on Waltz almost on repeat. Did Fiona write the song about me? 'cause the lyrics is just like how I've been feeling for a time now, it's just like that.

Waltz

If you don't have a song
To sing you're okay
You know how to get along
Humming
Hmmm

If you don't have a date
Celebrate
Go out and sit on the lawn
And do nothing
'Cause it's just what you must do
Nobody does it anymore

No I don't believe in the wasting of time,
But I don't believe that I'm wasting mine

If you don't have a point to make
Don't sweat it
You'll make a sharp one being so kind
And I'd sure appreciate it
Everyone else's goal's to get big headed
Why should I follow that beat being that I'm
Better than fine

Love her. She really gets me in and out of a mood. I love her songs, great voice, great emotion. She's very real. One of my faves

thanks.. i'm probably gonna pass for now...

i think the novelty of the live versions will wear off and the double copies of the other songs will probably annoy me because of my need for organizatioin when it comes to my itunes (no double copies and everything as correctly labeled as possible :p)

Fiona Apple is phenomenal. I prefer male voices easily so the women I like tend to be nonpareil.

i  fiona apple .. but what i dont like is how alot of pro anas use her songs for inspiration .. but i love ugly girl and paper bag so much :flower:
