As one of the sponsors and judges at the Ford Supermodel Of The World 2005, MODELS.com was very psyched to track this year’s crop of contestants. From the early test shoots at Daylight Studios, to the judging at The Hudson Hotel, to the extravaganza of a finale at The Tunnel the Ford machine was amped up to maximum mode. Just two days ago (Weds the 12th) before an audience of thousands a stunning Brazilian newcomer Camila Finn scooped the winning spot. But keep a sharp eye out for Ingrid Schram from Canada and Otilia Aionesi from Romania, because as runner-ups those girls brimmed with major promise. For a full-on view of the experience tune in to WNBC next Saturday, Jan the 22nd at 7.00pm, where you’ll see exclusive behind the scenes footage (including glimpses of an MDC casting). I thought so too. You always hear about the winners but it's got to be so hard for the ones who come to the castings with such high hopes. For some it's the one chance they are ever going to get to better their lives.

Just a thought... I wish there was a way to go back and see where all the former winners are now and who made it to the top and who faded back into their former lives. I do know one girl named Asta B who we fell in love with when Ali and I were in NY the winter of 2003. She was sent back home after the F/W 2003 shows and we haven't heard from her since. I think she won in 2001. She was a sweetheart.

Camilla Finn of Brazil was this week announced as the winner of this year's Ford Supermodel of the World competition. Camilla beat forty-three other hopefuls to take the crown after a week-long contest which culminated in a runway show in New York. Ford launched its first international model search in 1980 and the legendary agency's quest for the next big thing evolved into the Supermodel of the World contest in the 1990s. As Eileen Ford once said: "You never know when or where you will find the next new model, but you can bet that someone from Ford Models will be looking." (January 14 2005, AM)
