Foreign Movie Recommendations

Beau Travail or anything by Claire Denis and also... La Sentinelle.

Farewell, My Concubine, in coordination with The Last Emperor.

Also Suspiria, but you musn't watch it alone, if you scare easily by witches or men in leotard...

Water (Canada/India)
Mostly Martha (Germany)
La Finestra di fronte/Facing Windows (Italy)
Joyeux Noël/Merry Christmas (with Diane Kruger)
Les Choristes/The Chorus (France)
Apres Vous...(France)
Cache (France)
Jeux d'enfants/Love Me If You Dare (France)

Finally found it...it is called Elling and it's from Norway. I watched it a couple of years ago (I picked up about 30 minutes in) and I liked it then. It is possible my tastes have changed, but probably not drastically.

Is anyone here familiar with Lithuanian films and documentaries?.
I got an invitation to see Energy Lithuania tonight, I can't find anything on the web, it's supposed to be a documentary (energy=oil?) and it's showing as part of Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna's selection of documentaries "Ambulante".. I'm too late for tonight's screening so I don't know how guilty I should feel for missing it.. considering I'm 100% sure I won't find it anywhere else. ever. :ninja: . there's still a couple of Lithuanian documentaries left for the upcoming days.. The Role of a Lifetime and Once in the XX century.. google isn't helping with these two either. . any info about them? yay or nay?.

and by the way.. Star Spangled to Death is also showing tomorrow .. any reviews on that one?. I'm still watching it but I'd love to hear more on it. -_-

^unfortunately not very familar with Lithuanian films ...

El Ángel exterminador (1962)
Le Journal D'une Femme De Chambre (1964)
Belle de jour (1967)
Le Charme discret de la bourgeoisie (1972)
Cet obscur objet du désir (1977)

how did i miss this thread....
it's wonderful...
oh so much to see- i'm overwhelmed....

despite some criticism in this thread...
i absolutely adore almodovar....i think he is completely brilliant...
he takes me to another world...

..

brilliant recommendations, Multi. !
Un Chien Andalou is probably my favorite movie from him.. it's just visually and socially astonishing. his work in Mexico is also worth watching.. Nazarín, Entre el Río y La Muerte, The Young and The Damned..

have you read Mi Ultimo Suspiro?.. it's his memoires book.. extremely heart-breaking, but I might as well be too sensitive for old people. :innocent:

Does anybody have the Viva Pedro DVD set?

It has Pedro Almodovar's Talk to Her, Bad Education, All about My Mother, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Live Flesh, Flower of My Secret, Matador, and Law of Desire. I really want it! And on Amazon.com you can get it for $48 from private sellers, which is a great deal!

^^Are you calling me old!:o  ... maybe I'm too sensitive for young people! ...

No I haven't read it! :innocent: ... but you're right I think his work in mexico is equally compelling, let's just recommend everything this man has touched! I don't think that's going to fare:P ...

 no!!, i was referring to the "heart-breaking" part.. since it might not be remotely touching for the rest. i know my sister read it and she came asking "where's the crying part?". :ninja:

^Hmmmm! A sensitive Mullet ! ...

Ooh yes foreign film recommendations!:innocent: ...

Three films by French film director Leon Carax. His films are pure energy unleashed. you have turbulence in a purer form. It's unalleviated chaos that Carax focuses upon, and the world being out of joint. It's presentation of the event as constantly off-centre. Both a troubled perception in a smooth space that lacks points of orientation, and a mood that veers from intense ennui to vertigo  ...

Boy Meets Girl (1984)
Les Amants du Pont-Neuf (1991)
Pola X (1999)

...but that's kind of long, one part may have to go on the back...

Then I want one that says ...

Can you spread my zucchini, Frederico Fellini :ninja: ...

LOVE Jean-Pierre Jeunet
City of God is brilliant.

This is my favorite quote.
its by him:

Cinema since the New Wave always seems to be about a couple fighting in the kitchen. I prefer to write positive stories.

I dont know
I just think thats refreshing

There is short by him called Foutaises
you can find it on youtube
its beautiful

Just saw La Tigre e la neve- Roberto Benigni
so lovely as all his films are.
Wonderfully precious love story.
