i think her makeup makes her look kind of gray.

I think it's possible that her makeup looks fine in person but it photographs gray because of the flash. Some makeup doesn't reflect light well while others are better for a person who is photographed a lot (ie a socialite!). I think if she switched to say a mineral she would look flawless.

And regarding the age appropriateness of her style, I think she sees herself as the black Holly Golightly and she pushes the envelope because she is thin and petite enough to. I don't always like her fashion choices but she does have a unique point of view.
