Just in time when Alexander Wang business crashed. Look out Philip Plein - there’s a new and even tackier boy in town
lmao

So dated.... this vision of fashion with too many overworked details screaming "look at me, I am unique !". And the complicated styling doesn't help.
No easiness, no coolness.

I feel this is a 2011 collection, not 2021.
Williamson is a decade late on zeitgeist.

Those rubber boots...my eyes need bleach.

And that wannabe Balenciaga FW20 "water-ish" set.

Garbage expensive fashion that no one will ever remember.

I can do away with the first half. The black looks are too redundant. What’s off-putting though is that there are no other narratives other than just an amalgamation of trends from other houses and trying to steer Givenchy back to its Tisci-era glory. I think in that measure Matthew is succeeding—he’s just doing the directive from LVMH

Agree! About the clothes, but also the presentaion - water?!? On a runway?!? Noone raised a flag and told him it was done, 2 season ago, Balenciaga. Helloooooooo?!!!!! Lmao

The water on the runway is so cliche. It's almost like he tried so hard to pull out all the tricks in the box. There's not really a storytelling here. It's just a bunch of different pieces. Now it's the marketing team to come up with nonesense story to tell.

While some of the clothes look ok, there's nothing to write home or something new. Some pieces, without heavy embellishment, is just plain and basic.

Weirdly enough, I think Keller could have pulled this off in a bit more elegant manner...

The menswear has improved but it looks like they kept the same design team from CWK's tenure and just told them to add some cuban chains here and some puffer jackets there. Overall, it still has no "cool" energy or mystique and that makes the current branding even more cringeworthy. At least CWK's Givenchy kind of owned up to the fact that it could not be cool (Arivenchy mess aside lmao)--though I guess that's part of why she got replaced. And those McQueen armadillo heels x Bottega puddle boots hybrid...a choice.

Thank God they didn't release the pictures yesterday and we had some time to prepare mentally for this trainwreck. Everything about this collection feels incredibly stupid and dated. I'm pretty sure Clare Waight Keller will have the last laugh with this new Givenchy as it's getting clear that instead of creating massive hits, they've been going for a self-sabotage.

His thirst trap in Purple magazine is more interesting than this collection.

Clare did faux fur in FW 2018 show is way more elegant than this.

It's seem like beside Clare and Riccardo early works, all the designers at this house not really honor Humbert archives. They all looking elsewhere for inspiration, which is a shame because he has so many amazing creations. I was lucky enough to attended the LVMH Les Journées Particulières in 2018 and they showed me all the sketches, footages and fabric samples of Hubert first collection up until his last and they are just so divine.

I’ve been thinking about it—what should they [LVMH] do for a house like Givenchy in this era? A more couture-oriented approach like Clare’s didn’t work. Now they’re trying a Riccardo redux and it’s not working either. Seems like out of the recent gambles of LVMH, only Kim Jones and MGC at least profit-wise is working. Fashion generally feels uninspired right now that other than commerciality there’s no target.

If Instagram is any signifier - they are going to focus on printed cotton separates that read "GIVENCHY" on it...

Right before the show debuted the american footballer aaron donald posted a pic of himself in a givenchy separate. guys like him don't do any IG posts unless it's paid. Clearly this is who Givenchy wants their customer to be.
