Hedi Slimane exits Saint Laurent; Anthony Vaccarello hired

I liked what Hedi did at Saint Laurent. Not from the beginning but last year collections and f/w 16 were good.
I can't imagine Vaccarello in Saint Laurent. It will be the end of the YSL House. Vaccarello is not fit for Saint Laurent. I liked only one of his collections -Versus F/W 14-15 was not bad but the rest is horror, the collections which he does for Versus and for his eponymous brand are repetitive, every collection is similar. Slimane and Vaccarello hasn't similar design art. Vaccarello women is IT girl who wears mini skirt ,sexy. But it was not Slimane's YSL woman. Maybe something Looks similar but Vaccarello could be fit for "todays" Versace but not for YSL.
I can't imagine him designing for YSL.

Where will go Slimane?
Maybe one day, in future, in Chanel but not now. Karl maybe 82 years old but it doesn't mean that he will now leave his place for Slimane.

Who can imagine Slimane at the helm of Dior?
It could be surpise...

Well there's something they have in common right there

Trashy to trashier, is what I'm thinking ...

I wonder if Hedi could be going to do Chanel Homme??

Chanel homme, that's a real possibility I think.

Why do I feel like Hedi is going to go to Dior? I have no gossip behind this but it just feels like a stunt queen move that Arnault would pull.

They stated awhile ago (before Raf) that they wanted someone low key ... basically no divas need apply. There is no diva like Hedi ...

Good Riddance!

That being said, they are hiring a train wreck for a designer, Verculo or whatever his name is.

I highly doubt Slimane would go to Chanel or Dior, they are too establishement for his rocker taste. Either he will go back to his creative work or start his own line.

I do feel Elbaz will take over Dior.

good bye Hedi, hope to never see you at a women's fashion house again!

Vaccarello would be a joke of a choice. I doubt he has what it takes to propel a brand of such clout and size. Him churning out armpit grazing slits and collaborating on a diffusion line quailifies him to be an assistant at YSL, not much more.

There is no need for Slimane at Chanel, not only because he would butcher it, as its money is tied up tighter than any other's in their image - that is the true brilliance of Lagerfeld's tenure - and the Chanel left after Slimane's totalitarian take over would scare off many clients. Slimane would definitely attract a younger customer but majority of its couture clients are older and Chanel No 5, which is their money maker, is still for a more mature woman. Chanel does not struggle to sell its bags and cosmetics to any age group so I can not see the pros of hiring Slimane. At YSL there was a need to bolster the company's bottom line, namely in the RTW sector, that is not needed at Chanel. Chanel NEEDS the lavish shows with lavish looks, that may not get produced, so they can sell the rest of what the brand offers. Well I guess there could be 1 pro to Slimane taking over Chanel, the abdication of the Jenners and Hadids..

Vacarello wouldn't even be qualified as a YSL assistant, more like the intern who brings coffee and bagels to the office. His first collection was great, and the Versus collaboration was good but he's just been stuck on the variation of like two dresses ever since

As much as I want the Jenners and Hadids to go, they'd probably be replaced by Courtney Love or something

I really hope to see a Chanel tweed perfecto jacket!

I don't know what Karl is planning but I think he'd be ok with handing the keys to Hedi, later if not sooner.

As far as the "destruction" of houses go, I agree that all the movement and revolving doors are driven at the C-level, not by the designers. "Don't hate the playa, hate the game."

This is dangerous for his successor. They'll probably be gone in three years and they'll have to top Hedi's sales.

He left the house at the precise moment. I, for one, I'm happy with his tenure at YSL; He did everything He wanted and even though there were moments He was literally shooting himself in the foot, He could overcome all those difficulties. I liked it because the legacy/heritage cloud was next to him and not over him, because He recreated and turned the YSL spirit into something intangible and because with or without a namesake brand He still do and say loud and clear his message, like it or not He's still a leader and a trendsetter. Whether it's Chanel, Dior or an own brand, all those places need someone who can make quality products that hold their value and can stand the test of time, and Hedi is definitely one of them.

If something goes bad with Alessandro Michele then Kering is just royally screwed.

Knew this wouldn't last! He seems difficult (but I would be too if I was on a "baby food diet" and wanted more than anything to be a teenager again.)

I've never warmed up to SL by Hedi so my gut reaction is YAY but wow, what's in the water in Paris at the moment.. It's like some kind of advanced game of musical chairs, where you can't hear the music

Ding dong the witch is dead.

Going to take one hell of a person to refocus the house though...

alber elbaz @ YSL
that is all i want...

i dream about that day...
:magic:

I am glad he has left, but at the same time I don't know if i care. What he did to YSL imo, was to completely strip it of its identity and replace it with an entirely new one. Saint Laurent was Hedi Slimane, simply that. The brand Yves Saint Laurent is dead. So from that angle, I think it's a loss for Kerring. He seems to have been making money for them and hiring Vaccarello will be going from bad to worse. He hasn't even proven himself with his brand yet, I think it will be a disaster.

What happens now? Will the next designer revert back to YSL? This current brand is so ingrained in Hedi's identity that I can't see someone like Alber for instance, fitting well. Fashion is going bunkers though! I can understand that change is constant but too much change creates chaos. It's hard to understand how they come about these decisions but I guess we'd never know. We can only wait and see if they are geniuses or idiots.

With regards to Chanel, I strongly hope it doesn't happen. Chanel doesn't need a new designer to connect with younger customers, Chanel is Chanel and people of a wide age range will always desire the brand. It is in a complete league of its own. Its image is so strong that it's not just rooted in fashion history but also, in French culture and identity. So having Hedi there will just ruin everything especially as he will really limit the rather vast client base they have. At this point I don't think I can stress myself caring too much about these games, it can get a little frustrating.

His tenure was so iconic, honestly. When you look at the big picture and how he took this semi-irrelevant brand and completely tuned on its head, made it the most relevant and influential brand in the business is pretty incredible. He set the blueprint for brand revamping from now on. Gonna miss his work there, the great clothes, the brilliant marketing... and the hate lol.

For him now is either Dior, Chanel, or he got funding for his own brand. Like i've said before, Chanel would be amazing. Now only I because i'm counting the days for Karl to hang his glasses and gloves, but the brand desperately needs a strong new direction and he's the guy for it. But even if he'll do it, I don't think it will happen anytime soon. They'll probably be grooming him for another year or so and will try to make the transition as smooth as possible and give Karl the time to have a big farewell.
