Hedi Slimane leaves Dior Homme

You guys are just waaay to conservative. I actually quite like his futuristic look. I couldn't wear it myself, but on him it's cool. But then again, I love people that look a little off, that wear clothes that really differentiate them from others, not only for being well-dressed, but really looking like no other.

:woot: I thought something was wrong with my liking the look on him, glad that you feel the same.

getting pretty offtopic in general... but just glad people understanded the chanel thing...

i totally agree with you ilaughead... but YSL has had too many changes in a short period of time and now that it looks like Pilati is really doing a great job it could be a little disturbing to put hedi there and change the creative direction again... wouldnt it?

hmm seems like a silly rumour... but i think Hedi would be great back at ysl.. cause him to shake up his designs!

i don't consider myself conservative and i am a huge dior homme fan but number one, those sunglasses have nothing at all to do with the rest of the outfit. then, considering he is wearing a dior homme monogram bag with all the rest, it just looks like he wore the whole thing right off of the runway with no originality. fashion victim. not to mention the proportions of the trench to the pants is very odd when you're working with such noticeable fabrics. it's way to garish for me.

Besides random sponsored boy safaris and celebrity status, I don't see what Hedi has to gain at Dior. Each new collection is getting worse and worse, as is the quality and construction. Yet the price keeps going up.

I really doubt he had that much to do with the design these days. Everything is just a joke almost. I think if he's smart and can get away from the allures of boy safari's, he'll do fine at Chanel.

I don't see him going back to YSL at all, they don't really need him. Pilati is doing a fine job and the customers really appreciate his work. As for Chanel, there's no menswear at all, besides some modified tweed pieces and other crap.

He would definitely be able to create a new identity for Chanel, as he did for Dior when he joined them. Sure Hedi's name is pretty much linked to the whole Dior Homme image and concept/vision. You can say Hedi built Dior into what it is today. But I seriously don't think he can do anymore here, and it's just obvious that the big wigs at HQ just want to keep pumping out trash from now on.

Hedi, time to head elsewhere. I didn't think that way before but now I do :P

I agree with the sunnies, although that's just a detail. I hadn't noticed that the bag was Dior-monogrammed, and yeah, it's ugly as death. I would also prefer a less volumnious trench. That being said, I still like the outfit. In spite of those details being a little off, my overall impression is that... I quite like it.
As for the coat, is it even Dior Homme? I don't remember it being featured on the runway, although I may have overlooked it if it was in another color. Lately I could hardly be bored to look at DH. Except for a few pieces everything is way too low-quality to be worth the money. Some designs are nice, but if I'm going to pay $2,000 for a coat, I want quality, not mediocre fabrics, detail and finnishing. IMO your money is better spent on older pieces on eBay. I can't help but wonder if Hedi even cares for the the label anymore. Dior Homme is pretty much a t-shirt-machine now, so why should he bother? I'd like to see him somewhere new. Why not his own label?

How do you all think John would take it if Hedi left? What is their relationship, or do they have one?!

I think he should just start his own line, then he will have more creative guise yet keep doing what he does now. That way he wont have to replace Pilati nor will people be upset that his CD homme label isn´t evolving as much anymore.

Sometimes I wonder if they've even met! :D:lol:

I personally love what Hedi has done at Dior Homme. He has moulded it into what it is today. Fact. He has totally created a Dior homme image synonymous with nearly everyone remotely interested in fashion. One problem i have is that the quality really seems to be deteriorating. Having been to Selfridges recently to pick up a few new bits i struggled to see anything i liked. I like the grey hoodie with drawstring in pouch but it was too expensive for what it was. For the future Hedi has to think carefully. By staying at Dior and continually producing similar collections he type-casting himself. I mean who will want him in a few years?...to transform their label into a slightly different Dior copy..?!"!"

HEDING OFF?

TALKS over Hedi Slimane's contract at the house of Dior are said to be reaching crisis point - again. At the end of June last year, rumours were rife that he was keen to begin his own label and would be replaced by Belgian designer Kris Van Assche, who has previously worked at Dior. According to WWD, speculation is building once more that the label will part ways with its creative director after nearly a year's worth of contract negotiations. The main area of contention is over plans to establish Slimane's own fashion label – and the designer is worried about losing rights and ownership to his name. "Slimane is reluctant to give up control of his name and has set a high price tag on the value of his trademark," said WWD's sources. Christian Dior is said to be "fed up" with Slimane's constant demands and the bad feeling has begun filtering down into the company. While neither party was available for comment, a split right now would not be timely – after six years of successful shows with the brand, Slimane produced what was largely regarded as his most impressive collection – ever - last month in Paris. PARIS — Speculation is building here that Christian Dior will part ways with its men's wear star Hedi Slimane.

The French fashion house and the designer have been in protracted talks to renew Slimane's Dior Homme contract — and to establish a signature fashion house — with majority ownership of the Slimane brand said to be among the most contentious clauses. Slimane is reluctant to give up control of his name and has set a high price tag on the value of his trademark, sources said.

Christian Dior is said to be keen to move on, "fed up" with Slimane's demands, which have made talks drag on for almost a year and dented morale among the rank and file, according to one source.

It could not immediately be learned if a succession plan at Dior Homme is in place should Slimane be shown the door. Last year, Dior Homme was on the verge of signing Belgian designer Kris Van Assche, but talks abruptly ended, and exclusive negotiations resumed with Slimane.

WWD first reported a stalemate in contract negotiations on June 19, just weeks before the contract was to expire.

Slimane, 38, was traveling in America on Tuesday and could not be reached for comment, nor could Sidney Toledano, chief executive of Christian Dior.

A split with Slimane would mark the end of a successful six-year collaboration that saw Dior Homme become one of the most influential men's labels, making skinny tailoring, low-slung jeans and updated, rock 'n' roll style the benchmark of cool. Slimane also applied his rigorous, modernist approach to fragrances, launching the hit scent Dior Homme and concocting the brand's first men's skin care range, Dior Homme Dermo System...(WWD)

PARIS — Dior Homme is bidding adieu to Hedi Slimane and is close to replacing him with Kris Van Assche, WWD has learned.

God at least!
Say au revoir to the crappy Dior t-shirts and polos, crappy jewels that ternish in two days, crappy buttons that fell off after two wears.

SLIMANE CHANCE

KRIS VAN ASSCHE will succeed Hedi Slimane as creative director of Dior. The Belgian designer, who previously worked at the label before launching his own line in 2005, has been chosen by LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton for his comprehensive knowledge of the company and reputation for fine tailoring. As reported yesterday, contract negotiations between Slimane and Dior had been proving difficult since last June - predominantly because Slimane was keen to start his own label, but reluctant to give up complete control of his trademark. Friction between both parties was said to be filtering down into the rest of the company, and Dior yesterday decided to cut all ties with the designer. According to WWD, the brand is looking to change the direction of its menswear but keen to keep a sense of heritage within future collections. The move, which is bound to shock many in the fashion industry, smacks of the surprising splits between Jil Sander and Helmut Lang, who both left their namesake houses in 2004 and 2005 respectively. He is leaving Dior Home...where are you reading that he has someone to buy his name/trademark/finance his own brand?

If he can't get LVMH to bankroll him he is going to have a tough time finding someone else. My guess is it will be a Japanese investor.
